[LONGTERM RENTALS NEAR DINAN FROM AUGUST 2008]

We are looking at renting an unfurnished property in Evran area south of Dinan after falling victim to the double whammy of the credit crisis and bad exchange rate which put pay to our plan to buy a house nearby. However online listings of longterm rentals are scarce. Where is the best place to start? Are rental properties available with ASDN included? We are a family of four and have two cats and a dog. Any help from the forum masses please?

We are looking at relocate to France and fell in

love with Dinan and the area south around Evran on a fact finding visit

to the area last October. We are taking the advice of many FPN articles

regarding "try before you buy" in France for a year and are looking for

a longterm let of an unfurnished 3 bed house with office space and

broadband connection in this area. We also have a dog and 2 cats. Can

any Forum members help us or do they know a man who can? We have 2

children aged 7 & 10 so proximity to schools would be an advantage.

[THE DARKER SIDE OF FRANCE?]

Have just read a recent article in The Times citing resentment by French nationals to Non-French nationals buying up properties, particularly in rural areas, which has put house prices beyond the reach of most local people. I think this is talking more about those just buying holiday homes and adding nothing to the community. Is this just an article designed to grab headlines or has anyone living in France any first-hand experience of this? Conversely can any forum members rebuff such news reporting?

So does this mean that in the eyes of the French tax system I would be classed as self-employed and expected to be set up as such even though I am a salaried employee with a UK company only earning £20K-£25K p.a?

From another posting I have, re moving to Ille et Vilaine department, one reply suggests that Franch taxes can add up to 50% of earnings? Can this possibly be true? What is the breakdown of French taxes as a % of earnings? Are there any tax breaks or penalties for a UK citizen living & working in France for a UK based company?

After thinking about relocating to France for five years we are taking the plunge and looking to move to Dept. 35 with a view to renting for a year to see how we get on before purchasing in this area. We have two children age 7 & 10, two cats and are non-smokers. I work from home online and have agreed with my employer that working from France will not be a problem, thereby giving that much needed regular income so hard to come by for Brits in a foreign land with limited language skills. Garuanteed Broadband connection is essential as is proximity to schools. Can anyone out there offer guidance and words of wisdom? Any areas recommended or ones to avoid? Maybe you live in this area: any regrets?
