Could people who have been in my situation only reply please , who can understand  what a mother is feeling .As for a cheap car , maybe i can't afford to run another car , or maybe i can't drive,or  maybe...... you dont know all the facts , but as usual want to have a go. And yes we moved to rural france its where we wanted to be, so why should we be somewhere we dont want to be.

As for my husband going to work in the U.K , well thats where he works, he has no choice on that one.The fact is I  am going to battle this one out, as the bus driver starts his route from me first , he can come to the house instead of twiggling his thumbs for 5 mins at the top of the lane.If my children were aged 10 + i know they could cope with getting up alot earlier to travel for a hour , but im not going to do it to them at the age they are at.

I understand very well how a mother is feeling since I have 3 small children myself. I also do not 'as usual have a go' since I haven't posted on here for ages. All this is by the by, the fact remains that you can try as TU suggests to talk to your Mairie and the APE at your school to intervene on your behalf, but I'm also with TU on the fact that the Conseil General will not establish what they regard as a taxi service. However, you will only find out if you ask.

P.S. Electrical cars don't require a driving licence.

2. We had a similar situation in our village with a French family who moved here. The husband goes out to work very early in the morning and the wife doesn't have a driving licence. Well, the mind boggles! Why would you move to a rural community without a driving licence? Anyway, in this case the bus got re-routed, however, it makes for interesting travel as he has to go faster now in order to get the kids to school on time! I'm not sure if I agree with that solution.

I realise that this might be a very unpopular view, but I can't see how in this day and age you could possibly be in your situation. Why is your husband returning to work in the UK and leaving you here with two children, a 30min walk to the bus and no car? Why can't you buy yourself a cheap car, even an electric one will do with 2 small children. It is not the responsibility of your local Mairie nor the Conseil General to get your children to school. You chose to live where you do and it is up to you to sort out your transport problems.

3. Hello, I wonder if anyone has a similar problem. I've had FTV for the

past 4years and never had a problem. Recently however, with all the

storms over the winter, reception has been getting worse and worse.

When I came back from holiday a week ago I actually had no more signal

whatsoever. I finally got the repair man to come and check it out and

he has been fiddling with the dish orientation. We now have reception

but the signal quality seems to be worse than before.

I do remember

someone telling me that the BBC is narrowing the footprint in order to

get rid of freeloaders like us in France. Is that so or is it just a

question of our dish being too small?
4. Sorry to have to come back again about this, but even if I take the

time to trawl through the different topics and then choose 'Options'

and 'Mark as read', the next time I log back on they are all unmarked

again and show up again on the Not read button. So, what's the point?

5. Flipping heck! I've just spent AGES going through all the different

headings, reading what I wanted to read, go back to the heading index,

down the bottom, options, mark as read, back to the main index, onto

the next heading.... It's just too complicated. Why did it have to

change? It was great before, especially as one could read the first few

words of a post without actually clicking on it as well.

6. Hi, I can't find a button to mark everything as read. I also don't know

how to just get the threads since I last visited. It just keeps showing

me pages and pages of stuff I have no interest in and no time to read.

HELP!!!

I also don't like that the threads are not sorted by heading, when I

click for example 'Not Read', so I'm forced to read each title rather

than scan the posts.

7. My husband had his vasectomy done this year. You will have to find a Urologist who will do it. It is not illegal in France anymore but quite unusual. However, there is a 3months cooling-off period, i.e. on your first visit to the urologist you will

a) have to take your wife along to show that she is supportive of your decision and

b) he will give you a document to sign and another appointment for 3months later, in order to leave you time to change your mind.

The other thing is that it has to be done under general anesthestic.

My advice, and my husband's as well, is go to the UK and have it done there.

9. Good morning all, I thought I would recommend the following book for anybody who is thinking about moving to France, about to move or has just recently moved, and who would like some sort of insight into day to day language and culture. It's called 'Tune up your French' by Natalie Shorr, and my hubby, who has just read it, thinks that it would have been a lot of help when we first came over.
10. Err, excuse me? Are you talking about primary or secondary school? If it's Primaire you are talking about then

a) rest assured that there are just as many tests as in UK schools, and

b) they can determine all they like with the tests, as there is absolutely NO obligation for a child in Primaire to repeat a year! The final word is with the parents up until 6ieme.
11.
I have an airless spray gun, used it for emulsions / fence painting absolutely fantastic. Paint goes further much quicker . Gave ten 6 x 6 wodden fence panels two coats both sides in about two hours. ...
Hi Phil,

Thanks for your post. We've actually just bought a Wagner Paint Crew and Dean is working up the courage to try it out today. I will let you know how he gets on!
12. Maize silage is used here in France just as much as it is used in the UK and most other European countries. The advantage is that the whole plant is used and can be harvested earlier than the cobs. The silage has a very high nutritional value and only a little bit is needed to provide for cattle. The cobs, if they are harvested seperately, are used to make maize meal mainly for chickens, but can be fed to any farm animal as a source of protein. (I feed maize to the horses in the winter) If the cobs are harvested seperately, the rest of the plant is rolled up and used as maize straw. All in all, maize is a very versatile feeding plant, and as it only has a limited season the fields can be used for winter seeds, like wheat, mustard, grass etc.
13. Andrew,

the model that I've got is not on that website, but that doesn't really matter. The titanium rods in the cell were changed last year and the cell looks clear. I will carry on with what I'm doing now, and if it still doesn't change or gets worse by the weekend, I will call the guy who installed the pool, as it is really his responsibility to sort this out.

Thank you so much for your help and advice.
14. The machine is a Compu-Chlor, cellule auto-nettoyante, but I can't find how much chlorine it produces per hour. Currently, the salt indicator on the test strip is just below 6, the pH is at 7.02 (I adjusted the machine to 7.20 yesterday), the needle on the Compu-Chlor is in green going towards red and the pool is still going green. I've got some stuff to get rid of the green, called Aquaflash. Should I put that in? Sorry to pump you for all this information, but I don't know who else to ask.

Thanks a lot,
15. My husband has got myself volunteered to do a fair bit of painting - round the roof line and the interior of 9 fairly large apartments.

He wants to use a spray gun and doesn't mind paying out a fair bit to buy one. Any recomendations on what he should look out for and what to avoid?

We've seen one like this http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/product-2.asp?iProductID=25218

for sale in a local DIY store, which doesn't seem too out of order price wise.

Thanks,
