1.
Am I reading the same article as you?
Unfortunately Iam unable to ascertain which article you are reading as Iam not in your location. However the phrase "Fluid frontier controls" appears in the 2nd paragraph of the link I posted and in response to the assumptions/suggestions you have quoted,
"Fluid frontier controls" could mean anything from letting British tourists in without undue formalities,
British tourists would definitely benefit from a frontier control of that nature.
though to rapidly deporting any British residents in France who do not meet their residency criteria.
French residents would definitely benefit from a frontier control of that nature.

  2. As well as my quality tools I also have a selection of Lidl stuff, cordless hammer drill, cordless regular drill, multitool, jigsaw, cordless circular saw etc.
The battery pack that powers the hammer drill is also interchangeable with the circular saw, so when the circular saw battery failed I was able to use the battery from the drill.

Now that is ok until that battery packs up. However, I was able to overcome this possible situation having found THIS German company that stocks spares ( not the actual tool) for all Lidl goods, Parkside, Florabest, Silvercrest, Biffnet etc.
The new battery pack was €20, ordered last Monday received Thursday with NO delivery charge.

  3. I am not in receipt of a Govt Pension so I'm only hazarding a guess here.

The £/€ exchange rate of 2017 was considerably less than the £/€ exchange rate of 2016. Bearing this in mind, I assume you received a simmilar £ rate Govt Pension in 2016 and 2017 and, on conversion to € rates for Impot declaration the 2017 € amount would be less than the 2016 € amount, due to the exchange rate.

This could be a possible  reason for the lesser credit d'Impot in 2017 as I would imagine the credit to be based on a percentage of the value of your declared € pension.

Your annual gross salary must be high, at least one and a half times the average national salary - except when the lower salary threshold applies

(though saying that, I haven't a clue what the average national salary is in France so maybe it's not that exclusive?
    )
The EU Blue Card criteria for France, back in 2015 were:

    Fee - €240
    Validity - 36 months
    Salary Threshold - €53,331
    Number issued - 39

  5. The lack of required moderation, apart from the occasional dust-up, is what I believe keeps this site ticking along.

Whilst not a prolific contributor I have been lurking around these parts since 2002 and I've seen them come and I've seen them go and I guess some were never missed. Then I don't suppose I would be with my minimalist posting history over 16 years! I do believe the mods generally  appear to have done a sound job, wherever / whoever they are, and tend to usually allow a good amount of slack.

The moderating, on some of the boards, on a financial site I frequent is conducted with a rod of steel but then they are only implementing the site owners t&c and rules.
Anyway the light touch moding appears to work here so more power to the contributors  for making it thus and I wonder if I will still be lurking in another 16 years when I'm completely gah gah?

I'll explain a little......I have no problem not drinking alcohol in French households because they always do have and offer soft drinks but, in British households, I am never offered an option so I just have to ask for a glass of water.  Then, whilst all the alcohol drinkers get their drinks endlessly "refreshed", nobody seems to offer me other than the one initial glass of H20.  I have now determined to take my own drink and not have to suffer the indignity of people asking me endless questions about not drinking and feeling increasingly disenchanted about being the odd one out.

Any suggestions on either option would be immensely helpful, thanks.

Perhaps continue to visit the French abodes frequently and aviod the British abodes like the plague? Or just stay chez vous with some glug from here.

I enjoyed the joke, cajal[:)]  Not sure that you are being factual though!
Nobody enjoys a joke more than me,mint. However I can assure you that

this obscure event actually happened and that is said with 'hand on

    heart'!

PS are they going to let England set the clocks after tonight?[:D]
Hmm.

If that were the case and with BigBen out of action for up to 4 years

that would be 'good timing' for the next World cup. Or, perhaps not as the case may be.

  8.
Me too, radio controled clocks, accurate to the second all year[:)]
Well, make of this what you want.

A couple of weeks ago I got out of bed at the usual time and on opening the volets I thought that it didn't appear to be as bright as usual.
Went to the kitchen and noticed that the microwave clock was reading an hour earlier than the bedroom clock (radio controlled). Returned to the bedroom and the clock was still reading an hour later than kitchen clock. After much cursing I went and had a cup of coffee.  Later during the day the bedroom clock reverted to the correct time.
And the significance of all this? I've doubled checked the date and it was 28th June, the morning after Germany was knocked out of the World cup. Where are European radio clocks synchronised? Frankfurt.
  9. As this a whole of the EEU issue I've posted here instead of the France board.

Here is an article regarding the EEU parliaments decision to have voted for a review of daylight savings time.

If, like me, you find the clocks forward and backwards procedure twice a year to be a complete and utter pain in the a.ss then Here is a European Commision consultation on Summertime arrangements.

Here (this link is slower to load than the two links above as it is interactive) is a connected EEU survey where you can vote and express your wishes if you find this annual charade an issue or are at ease with the present arrangement.

If the present logic is you can overtake a lorry limited to 80 on secondary road, does this mean the end to overtaking lorries on these roads?
Why would you need to?  If the speed limit is 80 and the truck is travelling at 80.............

Too many apologies that are just so many empty words.  If someone did something to "wrong" me, I don't want an apology; I'd rather they did something to put it right.  And if that were not possible, then no amount of apologising is going to make me feel better[+o(]
Hmm suprise, suprise. I make no apologies for this but I'm with you on this one mint.

Here's one to mull: 'Mon aéroglisseur est plein d'anguilles'.

  12. If you are not risk averse with 'p2p business lending' and have a UK bank account which you are able to prove ownership of and you are prepared to absorb, financially and mentally, what can be likened to a kick in the groin, then it may be worth your while to check out ArchOver. The rewards far outweigh the failures.

  13.
. We tried several banks/building societies only to be turned down because they couldn't get a credit score on us as we only have a UK debit card.

    Mrs KG
Not anymore.

    From:

DIRECTIVE 2014/92/EU OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
of 23 July 2014 on the comparability of fees related to payment accounts, payment

account switching and access to payment accounts with basic features.

    Member

States should guarantee that consumers who intend to open a payment

account are not discriminated against on the basis of their nationality

or place of residence. While it is important for credit institutions to

ensure that their customers are not using the financial system for

illegal purposes such as fraud, money laundering or terrorism financing,

they should not impose barriers to consumers who want to benefit from

the advantages of the internal market by opening and using payment

accounts on a cross-border basis. Therefore, the provisions of Directive

2005/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council (9) should not be used as a pretext for rejecting commercially less attractive consumers.

Consumers who are legally resident in

the Union should not be discriminated against by reason of their

nationality or place of residence, or on any other ground referred to in

Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union

(the ‘Charter’) when applying for, or accessing, a payment account

within the Union. Furthermore, access to payment accounts with basic

features should be ensured by Member States irrespective of the

consumers’ financial circumstances, such as their employment status,

level of income, credit history or personal bankruptcy.
