1. People with gites who have done badly ,are less likely to post True, but it is still interesting to see that those that have been busy seem to have done particularly well not just relying on UK bookings. Also that on the whole gites seem to have done better than B and B
2. In the heat you are having, if you find one it is more likely to be red!
3. It seems to me that the Brits are only just catching on to the fact that you can have a summer holiday in the mountains with temperatures still up in the 30's. More and more people I know are taking summer trips to the Alps and Pyrenees.
4. sounds more like a cheese! or a confusion of bleu de lectoure paint I believe it is a dog though http://www.kennels.co.uk/Hound/Grand%20Bleu%20de%20Gascogne.html great looking dog
5.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry...
If in doubt 'cry with laughter'
6. I assume the note was written in French ! Was it good french? or franglais? Seems strange to key the car and then leave a note as evidence! Clearly they know tehre is no chance of getting caught. Re the car, you can't win this one, because as I found out on this forum to my amazement, once you have registered in France, you can't legally drive it back in the UK!
7. The wording on my letter says it all I think. 'HMRC's intent is to allow people with unpaid taxes linked to offshore accounts or assets to settle their liabilities at a favouable penalty rate.' In other words pay up or you are in real trouble if caught.
8. I received a nice letter from my employer informing me that they are obliged to disclose all details of overseas accounts in my name. End of year statements for 2003 2005 and 2007 are required. I have absolutely nothing to fear from an investigation as every financial payment/receipt has been 100% above board. However this raises a big conundrum for anyone who has overseas holiday homes (often advertised for holiday rental) and has not declared any income at home or abroad. I am sure I am going over old ground here, but with this new development, here is the website for the 'New disclosure opportunity' which is giving people one last chance to comply. www.hmrc.gov.uk/offshoreaccounts/offshore-ndo.htm Good luck
9. We place as much linen/duvets as we can in those vacuum bags that you can buy from Ikea. It keeps all the insects etc out as well. Having said that, if you have a lot of clothes and bedding there then it will take a week to pack up!
10. I don't know about parking in Limoges, but in general I am shying away from long term car parking at airports after the electics in my clio seem to have melted in the excessive heat. Finding a covered parking space would be preferable.
11. I use Linguaphone which are OK. I find the format (storyline) boring though, and usually fall asleep while trying to listen to them (especially dangerous if you are driving at the time!) One to one tuition is the best way to learn quickly and have it tailored to you strengths and weaknesses. Its expensive though.
12. Is the house heated and occupied? A dehumidifier works by passing room temperature air over a cold coils, so I would think it less efficient in a cold house? We had damp from high earth levels and we excavated a trench and added soak-aways to take water away from the wall.
13. It is interesting that gites seem to be doing the best, and that eating out is the area that is being hit. In our part of the Gers, the local fetes seem to have record numbers, maybe the weather?
14. I have been reading back over a multitude of gite posts, garnering information on what is required as a uk resident with a maison secondaire if I was to look at holiday lets. I have to say, I am not convinced it is something I really want to do unless totally neccessary. However, while rummaging around it was clear in early 2009 that there was a lot of concern about the forthcoming season. Now the peak season is over, it would be interesting to hear in % terms how much booking actually suffered. My guess is that they will have been pretty much unchanged?
15. Anonimity seems to bring the worst out in some people. But it does keep out the tempo of the chats!
16. bizarre, firstly nothing showed, then the links showed. Sorry about that.
17. do u want me to edit the post because now i am showing names Loirette ?
18. links removed as pictures now appearing   very nice
19. The photos could be a lot better - not seeing too much from here!
20.

It now interfers with my wifi connections and loves turning them to local instead of internet
Don't understand what that means [8-)]
Neither do I ! On my version of AVG, there is a new icon called 'ID' and it seems to interfere with my wifi lap top connection via livebox (in the UK its fine). I have to turn the firewall and/or ID off to connect, and after connection I turn them back on. I can't seem to find where to get ID or firewall to accept the livebox connection any other way. If I dont do this, the connection doesn't work and in the wireless connection icon (bottom LHS of start bar) it says local connection only. My old version of AVG never caused this problem.
21. AVG is great, but it seems to be getting bigger, fatter and more prominent on my computer. It seems to be becoming a bit bloated by it's success. It now interfers with my wifi connections and loves turning them to local instead of internet.Very infuriating.
22. He has probably already re-joined in another guise.
23.
Hi! What do you know about accumulative insurance ("life insurance") in the Ukraine?
http://www.in-sure.ru/files/pdf/Life-08/Vremenko_eng.PDF Vremenko Ludmyla knows a bit.
24.
Hi! What do you know about accumulative insurance ("life insurance") in the Ukraine?
Nothing.... All I know about Ukraine is that their exchange rate is on the move again.....Lost 10% in value this week, and has moved from 4.60 to 8.80 in a fraction over a year. And to think we worry about every 1% move in EUR/GBP !
