    Sharpening circular saw & planer blades

    Well, I took the blades to a company near The Mervent who will sharpen 2 x 300mm planer and 1 x 200mm cross cut saw blades for 24 Euros, collect them on Mon. As I have no idea what sharpening costs even in the UK, I was happy to pay the 24E, (luckily I had a friend in UK who did them for free). Dave, I know I can get blades for £10 in the Uk but they are really rubbish [:(] so, that too, is a "no brainer".

    Lemon Grass

    I have largish lemon grass plant in a pot & wonder if  it will last over-winter in the ground. We live in central Vendee & we do get some fairly severe winters.

    Anyone have any experience with growing it in my area?  [8-)]

    Rendering boundary walls on neighbours side

    Thanx all for your responses.

    I realise the "moral implications" but think I would be only too happy to pay for rendering on my side if my neighbour paid for the building of the wall. All I really wanted to know is if my source had got his facts right.

    Ceilings repairs

    Thanx for all the suggestions. I rather like the curved corners, they are very French & I will try to repair them. Think I might make a trowel thing myself with some light gauge galvanised sheeting I have. Will let you know how it pans out.

    Our house has curved plastered corners where the walls meet the ceilings. There are some large cracks in the plaster that I need to repair. Does anyone know what tool is used to make these curves & where can I get one?

    Hi JJ sorry about the delay in replying (been a bit busy). I did preview the photo & it came up fine but as soon as I posted it - whoops, gone. Will try again. The car is a '79 LHD Triple White Cab. She's having some bodywork & a respray done in UK then I will go over & fetch her. I have changed my mind again about how to get her to France & have now decided to make a towing dolly with a turntable (very expensive to buy) & then sell the dolly once the car is in France. Watch this space. I have always loved Beetles, both our sons had them as starter cars (wrecks which I showed them how to rebuild) - love your story about your reg plate!!! I will the original Californian plate as a keepsake!!!

    Thank you all very much - the house is now rented out on a long term rental to a French family who are over the moon with it. A shame to rent it out after all the hard work but the garden was just too small for Mrs Postie, so now it's on to renovating our current house - am I a sucker for punishment or what!!

    Thank you all for the most useful info posted on the forum. The Beetle is still on USA plates but it apparently hasn't been taxed for some years. I bought the car through a third party who imported it into the UK (it has all the relevant import documents but no V5) I haven't actually seen the car as my son did all the negotiations. At the moment the bodywork & re-spray is being done in Lincoln but mechanically, I don't think it will manage the trip from Lincoln to The Vendee under it's own steam. I have decided that the best and safest method is to hire a trailer in UK & get my son to tow it down with his VW Transporter. I may have to ask your advice once again when I get round to registering the car after I have got it through it's CT.

    Unfortunately no - I bought it as a USA import & it's not been registered in UK. I have to trailer it to France before I can get it the CT done & get it registered here. Bit complicated I know but it's a '79 cabriolet & I think it's worth the effort.

    Wider-than-average stairs

    I agree with Chancer, they are very expensive. Our French neighbours had their stairs made "sur-measure" nothing special & made from ash. They didn't get much change from 3000Euros. I bought rough oak timber & made our stairs myself. Bonne chance!!

    Brico Depot windows are also filled with argon & they are much cheaper than Classic Bois windows. I agree they are not as well finished but if you are going to paint them it's possible to give them a little TLC. Brico Depot don't make to measure which is a shame because we are looking for 7 really big DG units (150 wide x 175 high) & they are a mindblowing price of around 7 grand through Lapeyre!!!!
