1. Yes,!! because looking at another forum many have been given the same rate by different tax office departments of 0.9525 when divided by 1.0000 gives 1.04 , in fact some tax offices have actually said 1.04. Damn!
2. That's spooky we went to the tax office this afternoon , we explained we needed to know the exchange so we could calculate the interest made in UK bank account and transfer the figure onto tax form in Euro , she said she must consult with colleague and returned with these figures - 0,9044760 on the paper that I will keep! , I asked would she sign the paper she said no because it was not needed as this exchange rate is being used all over France . Help, does this then convert to 1.04 ?? I am not only not good with French but maths as well! I am in area 47
3. Yes, I have it drummed into my head use the exchange rate of the day when gross piddly interest is paid into UK bank account, but if there is the option of using the rate tax office sets I was going to compare the totals using both of the above and choose the best for me - if that is allowed. I have probably missed the plot but I read this forum like a newspaper every morning for info - its brilliant, but sometimes confusing. So, exchange rate tax office is using anyone ? otherwise I thought I might be brave and go in and ask on Tuesday , they might be in a good mood after their hols and demo's.
4. Just had a fascinating conversation , - Couple arrived in France 4 years ago to house as permanent resident (no other property) , after a few months women decided to take up a 4 year contract outside of France - Ireland, she visits husband in France whilst she rents appartment in Ireland, after 12 months returned to France, she paid Tax Bill in the country she worked in . Because her main residence was with husband and the only house they own was in France, would she have come under the umbrella of being taxed in France ,because of the recipricol agreement could she have claimed the tax back and perhaps have been better off. Her argument was because she rented an apartment she became a temporary resident in the Ireland. Does she have a choice? Does both southern and Northern Ireland have a recipricol agreement as regards Taxes? Edited grammar - spelling I gave up on!
5. Has anyone a link please to a company in France that sells bedding plant plugs, cell plants , ordering on line in France. We usually grow our own but have to be away at a critical time so only option is to buy in or bring some back from UK. Will I need to get a passport number for any plants I bring in? Thank you in anticipation of reply.
6. Thank you for reply. We only have hospitalisation top up. Ooerrr your quotes make him sound expensive. Nice surprise to think we get back the 70% from CPAM if dentist is affiliated will check that he is affiliated as well. What with income tax and teeth I am stressed!!
7. Ron, sorry I was going to reply a "thank you" after lunch, yes, I got your e mail, excellent info.Re- dentures . I dont know if the chap is qualified but he has a brass plaque, describing himself a proth****** spelling I dare not attempt it!! How much money from CPAM do you think - what%.
8. Could someone comment please- is this a good price. We have found a man that makes false teeth from exact copies of your own rather than as they had done in UK - dentist first then impressions then wait and wait. He fixed a brake on a false tooth perfectly, so seeing all these teeth scattered about we then asked does he do copies - "of course" errr I think that was the reply and took out a charge sheet so for a full top set it would be €460.00 is that a good price?
9. Not my words, but I saved this Q & A info to file as it sounded important!but I think this is what u are referring to-Tried really hard to get this straight from previous postings and the ever helpful FAQ's, but can someone explain again the correct way to enter UK savings interest? The FAQs say enter Gross amount in column 5 of. 2 - REVENUS DES VALEURS MOBILIÈRES ÉTRANGÈRES ET REVENUS ASSIMILÉS (2047) but this column is headed NET. Do you make any adjustmnets to this figure before carrying it over to the TS box on the 2042? NO. The figure that goes onto the 2042 is the gross interest. Remember the 2047 is just a calculation sheet and is not just for the English to use, some income from some countries is subject to calculations and % adjustments and that is what the net figure means, not net of tax.
10. Well at last its fixed, the Saga started August 2008, Dell UK saying transfer on line to Dell France, Dell France collected laptop twice and only replaced the webcam , (problem, that when webcam was active it shut down whole computer) spoke with PC World in Feb2009 who said I must get it back to UK Dell cos some parts are not the same spec in France!!!! , ahum!!! Anyway it gets back to UK in April Dell UK collects and replace MOB and LCD cable, its now fixed. Fingers crossed , but what a performance.
11. Thank you all for excellent info. I do think this information will be " a wake up call" for many folk who have preferred not to know!. I will be printing it off and passing it on and probably be called ,a kill joy or worse.
12. Thanks Nick, thats positive information that I can pass on, (correct me if I am wrong) . If he earns more than the minimum wage through his own activities (eg The Wine Club) he must register the activity as a buisness , if he fails to do so he is working illegally.? This "registering the activity" and declaring the income would apply across the board be it selling wines, ones own paintings , giving talks, giving art classes where there is an exchange of money that amounts to more than the minimum wage. If a small income from varying or same activities amounted to less than the minimum wage then he is not obliged to "register the activity" it would just be a case of declaring it as an income on the tax form .? Would u agree. I know people other than myself that find the subject quite fascinating but confusing as regards to register or not as auto entrepeneur etc. The one flaw I see in the above interpretation is - how are u to know if you you are going to make more than the minimum wage so you can register first, but then I suppose your tax form is filled at the end of the first 12 months so you would register then, or not as the case might be. To be able to tap into the forum and ask such questions and get useful answeres is great, we seem to forget that there are many , many people out there that dont have access the the internet/computer and therefore are never able to find an answer to small queries. It can be so daunting (trying to speak French but ending up playing charades) to go and ask what you think is a simple question at an official place but end up feeling like you have signed your life away. Thanks again.
13. Dog,I find your post (and other post's of yours) most disturbing. Do not judge everyone by your own standards.
14. For over 2 years a friend of mine has given talks on " wines of the region"  and tastings  charging €15.00 a head, minimum attendance 10 persons in his own home, sometimes friends . Does he need to register as a buisness  simply because "money is made" or could this sort of activity be classed as a  "hobby" . His evenings at most are only 2-3 a week. He wonders if there is a law that forbids him to actually take orders for the wine he has promoted that evening maybe with customs and excise or an alchol related rule. Some positive information would be appreciated if only to reassure people's whose houses are used for The Wine Club's evenings. Post edited ,to make it clear  the information gathered is for his benefit  and anyone else who is not sure if this sort of activity is a hobby or a buisness.
15. [:$] Edited post.OOp's. Least said soonest mended.
16. Thank you both. I also pasted the form into google translation to English and it explained it well. I will complete it in the morning and understand that each of us have to complete our own form, phew Mrs MBK[:D]
17. Help please , I am trying to apply to re new my carte europeene, I have searched the forum and found this also on google and it sends me here , but I cant see any form to fill in to apply. My French is not good so I would appreciate a link directly to the form, or perhaps I have misunderstood and you can only do it by phone. Thank you.[:)] http://www.ameli.fr/fiches-synthetiques/la-carte-europeenne-d-8217-assurance-maladie.php
18. Sad ,! having to answer  my earlier question of "was it a figment of my imagination having been told on the phone that I had an extension until May1st on when Revenue and Customs  received my cheque",  see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/7982316.stm phew, panic over .Perhaps it will give others a chance who had given up . Mrs MBK[:D]
19. I have been talking with different UK departments for the last 2 days for my pensionion forcast , due to an administration error my Home Responsibility Protection did not show on my records. Upshot is because this was only sorted today and I owe them £5,500.00 starting 1996 to 2009 should I wish to pay ( this should be in by the 5th April 2009.) , they have given me an extension utill May1st (but I will do recorded delivery tomorrow ) . Has anyone else been awarded an extension until Mat 1st at the lower rate? I am worrying if its a figment of my imagination!![8-)] I have only 3 years of true payment but they said new rules would have applied for an E121 in that I needed only 1 true year of payment to qualify.Hope that info is of use . I have to say all departments bent over backwards to help. Milkey.
20. Hello Christine, I was going to post on forum the good news last night but the forum would not take my post!Today yes[:D] Through some phone numbers I got  from  links you gave me  , the lady travelled on Friday to Libourne I think on the far side of Bordeaux to an animal rescue place where an  an elderly little poodle that had been abandoned in the street and picked up by police, it was love at first sight - poor women she left at 9 in the morning and only got home at 9 at night with her new friend . What I found strange is that the animal refuge  made her go to the vets with it and she paid for all its injections - as I understood her - it was obligatory otherwise she could not take the little dog! She is so happy with him she wants to find a little elderly friend for him!! How she is going to take 2 dogs on a plane I dont know! but I think now that she has company she does not want to visit Belgium anymore. I know she could not manage to travel to far as I think it frightened her the distance , but I will try and work out where this area is - preferable 47. Thank you.
21.
Does sound odd, 10.0. addresses are also local like 192.168.'..........but if it works for the tower.............! I suppose I could alter that gateway address  to the same as the Belkin IP address as seen on other examples on the internet ( only just realized there are 2 kind of IP addresses personal that hooks up with e mails and eg Belkins which is 192.168.2.1 ( now I have just been told I should change it as 192.168.1.1 works better with Windows - any comment anyone , please. I know the laptop wireless is not at fault because I have been sat outside a friends house tuned into her wireless  network and aquired 53 Windows updates !! Have you tried a factory reset on the router BTW, there should be a tiny hole in the back to poke a paper clip or similar into. Yes, done that with orange stick! and also done a reset via the Belkin page. In WAN Connection type -Can someone please tell me what setting I am because I have a seperate broadband modem, then a seperate router. My options are Dynamic, Static .PPoE .PPTP . Why I ask is I had chosen Dynamic , yet no where has it asked me to put my wanadoo password or username in the Belkin router.Maybe not needed[:$] Any idea anyone?
22. Brill, if I dont here on the contrary I have I think understood that on the laptop running Vista ( that simply is not seeing the internet) I do the above. It will have to be in the morning as I have gone numb I have been struggling since lunch time with this, any more idea would be very much appreciated. Just been peaking at IP configuration on the towers XP and for the Belkin it says default gateway should be 192.168.2.1  (examples on internet say thats correct  it should be same as Belkin IP address , what do you think ) yet on the actual router Belkin Page  heading Internet settings its got default gateway  10.0.0.138 surely thats not correct.
23.
I think you're getting yourself in a pickle. The IP addresses in the client list are perfectly OK but are just local addresses for your own network and nothing to do with the Internet side. They may be called something different in the Belkin but your destination and/or gateway should be the IP address your ISP has assigned to you, I have no way of knowing what that might me but you can find out by going to http://www.whatismyip.com/ will have a look , thanks Your subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 or similar, the last octet may be different. Yes its exactly that For some reason I thought you were using a Belkin wireless adapter for the laptop which is why I said uninstall it's software but if that is not the case then forget that.No just a router, laptop with own wireless card I reiteratre though the problem is NOT with IP addresses, if that were so then the laptop would not be talking to the router at all, nor would it appear in the client list. Your problem is simply one of wireless connectivity. Have you entered the security key which is a string of letters and numbers usually printed on the router label.I kept it  in disabled mode If you disable the wireless security then it should connect up regardless and at least you will know that is your problem. NOTE: To get into the router you do not need the Belkin software just type 192.168.2.1 into your browser address box.Exactly this is just what I did 191.168.2.1 in the address bar. I have also changed ports in the router in case it was dodgy. The puzzle is that the set up as it is now was working perfect with Vista on laptop , then when XP was put on it went to pot, then I had Vist put back on , I had one day of perfect connection then lost it with only local connectivity on the laptop. Could something be blocking it on the laptop?
24.
192.168.2.1 is from memory the default for Belkin routers. You can change it if you want but there is no point or advantage in doing so. Hello ErnieY But the whole problem is it (the tower that has the Belkin hooked up to) is  not talking enough to the laptop , the laptop recognizes  the Belkin router  but not internet as well. If the tower PC can connect to the Internet then there is nothing wrong with any IP addressing so you can stop worrying about that. If you have got the Belkin wireless utility loaded then either uninstall it (you don't need it to make a wireless connection) or find out how disable it and use Windows Zero Configuration, should be a tick box somewhere. Why would I want to uninstall it from the tower ? I just need to check if all settings are accurate surely. For eg in  Belkin page LAN> DHCP Client List   IP address is 192.168.2.2 Host name Vista Mac address 00-ID-09-c7-D3-39 IP adress is 192.168.2.3  Host name Tower Mac address 00-0B-DB-2F-4E-37 Another question - should any of these IP addresses me the same. I am asking if someone could compare with there settings if there are similarities. Thank you
