Sorry I dont have photos [Www] But I did have a lovely lovey day! I can recommend the restaurant for anyone in the vicinity... and Wooly - the wine was also included. It was so nice to put faces to some of our virtual friends... Just John... has anyone ever told you that you look like Darth Vadar [8-)] Thanks to all for coming and maybe we'll do something similiar again in the future! xx

Just wanted to say that tomorrows the day we're meeting - still not too late for anyone close enough to Bergerac to come... I'm offering tea and cake at mine afterwards for anyone that fancy's a bit more chatting [:$]

Lavorgere - thanks for coming back to me. I've re-made the same cake this evening but I grated the carrot more finely and I added some orange zest and a teaspoon of mixed spice... I'd seen both these ingredients in several other carrot cake recipes... so thought it may add to the flavour?I thought I would try Mary's recipe once more just in case I'd made an error... my guinea pigs will be anyone who comes back for a cup of tea tomorrow afternoon after lunch [:D]But... I am going to give your recipe a go next time; I love baking so trying new ideas is always pleasing! Thanks very much. [kiss]
What the cannelle [:-))]
You're not taking this seriously are you [:D]Thanks Lavorgere - there's more oil in your recipe... maybe that will help? How fine do you grate your carrots?x

Hi Idum - I've never made a carrot cake before... love it but never made one. Usually I have to make lemon cake, chocolate cake or fruit cake... and the odd ginger cake thrown in... depending on the wants of the family. As Greyman is in the UK I thought I would have a go at this today. My books is the same as this one... http://halfahalf.wordpress.com/2007/09/21/carrot-cake-recipe-by-mary-berry/It's ok but not as moist as others I've had and doesn't seem to have loads of flavour... the frosting is the nicest part. It also seemed to lack a crumbly texture... usually I find Mary's recipes to be brilliant... maybe it was me but I'd like to see what other folks add to theirs.xx

I love Carrot cake and I also love my Mary Berry Ultimate Cake Book... so today I had a go at making her version of this wonderful cake.Normally, I follow her recipe and do what she says and I have a perfect cake... but today my carrot cake was nice but not great. [8-)]I know there are several excellent cooks on this fourm so I was wondering if anyone has a tried and tested recipe that they use and could share with me... or maybe share a few tips on how to create the perfect carrot cake.many thanksxx
My darling Rose has given me a prod on this one
ahh thanks sweetheart [kiss]
Edit: just realised I've totally missed the point of Martin's question (responded to command from on high without reading the first post !)
mmm... I see... blame me! What happened to your darling Rose? [blink] [8-)] [:D]

Hello Martin... I can't help but I know a man that can... so I'll give him a nudge. We have skype phones, we had them in the UK when we had our business and we use them here in France and we get free calls. Hubby is in the UK at the moment but I'll get him to come on and tell you what he did [:)]

To Echo what has been said... I have a friend living in an unaffected area of Japan and she says that the Red Cross seem to be on every street corner asking for money... and they seem to be heavily involved in helping in the affected areas... she says if folks want to help to use them.x
Attach bananas somewhere visible about your person. Before I discovered the power of the yellow fruit, I used to identify myself at airports and the like with a pineapple. Worked a treat.
I've got a stuffed half moon that's yellow and looks sort of banana like... if I pull it's string it plays Brahms Lulluby - should I bring this [:D]
One thing, how will we recognise each other? apart from Rose of course, from her avatar[:D]
oh dear John... I fear a great disappointment is going to befall you [:$]
The map works fine for me, Rose (not that I will need it!)[:)]
Excellent - I couldn't stand the thought of everyone wandering around between Bergerac and Perigueux cursing me and getting hungrier by the minute [:$]

( here's details of how to find the restaurant - copied from the other post )OK - we're all booked for Friday 25th March at 12:00... I can add more people later so if you still want to come it's not a problem... there is plenty of space so the more the merrier.Directions - Obviously this will very much depend on where you are coming from so rather than try and give directions I have found the restaurant on Google Maps... I've switched to satalite view and can recognise the location so it is acurate. Here is the link to google Auberge de la Brande - Les 4 routesThere is at the same location a small pepiniere - if you live not too far away you may recognise this place as they have a very nice plant sale every May - here is there website Jardins De La Brande And to save you searcing back this is the restaurant Auberge de la Brande You'll see from the google maps link that the restaurant is on the D21, it has a small car park but across the road (visible on the google link) there is a large layby/parking area which folks use too.If anyone needs any more information feel free to send me an email or pm... really looking forward to meeting folks next weekRose EDIT - when I click the google maps link it's quite zoomed out... zoom in and it's item A (on my screen anyway) that you're looking for
