1.
One of the translators we have had for years is 'The ABC of French Food' by Len Deighton. Good stuff and the butler really did not do it, the cook did[:-))] John.
Didnt he write a cook book as well?
2. 1. It will be nuts to move to France. Working and trying to run a business in France is absolutely insane. To give you an idea... the French language does not have a word other than borrowed english for Entreprenurship. 2. The French are generally wary of Foreigners, more so of the "ugly Yankee" You want to move to a more open area than Philly... try Boston or SF. Better than France. 3. Yes it is easier to find a job in France is you go to school here. Provided that the School is a "Grand Ecole" other than that youre SOL. 4. To work in Hitech in France you definetely need a lot more than basic Netwowrk Admin/ Some web development skills.   5. Spanish in France will makes things easier to about the same level as if you spoke fluent Tibetian or Punjabi. I would work harder at making things a go in the US rather than trying this half thought out move to what has to be one of most hostile countries to foreigners in the world.
3. Ok, since I am a non EU resident married to my french wife for a little over two years now, if I get a divorce I do know I will need to return to my native country. Big Deal. However on getting the divorce it self, what are my rights (chances are I have none), is she entitled ot half or more of my assetts. (Which really do not amount to much), and what if I dont make enough money to pay whatever alimony the court decides? Moreover how long is the process?
4. What line of work are you in? France is notoriously difficult as a work environment.
5. I am having an endoscopy on Friday the 28th, and a colonoscopy, since the Doc thinks I have Chrons as well. The suregery he would like to perform is not one for a Hernia, but somethin akin to a Gastric Bypass. Where he would like to remove the bottom 1/5th of the esophagus and the top 1/3rd of the stomach. Which is what worries me... considering the mrotality rates for this type of operation is fairly high.
6. Yup but I was already tested for Hiatial Hernia years ago... when the bleeding first surfaced. However I dont know why this one keeps insisting on operating even without looking at an endoscopy. Also what was your recovery period after the operation?
7. I have Barretts Esophagus, and the first thing the doc wants to do is operate. He is convinced that this is because of a herniated stomach, even though the rest of the medical comunity in the whole wide world is preplexed by the cause of Barretts.

Feeding Raw

Yes it is true that raw fed dogs do produce less poopie. That I can attest to... Also the Satin balls are amazing, my poor Laila is getiing them and in just two days her spine is less prominent than what it was when she got here... She is putting on wieght... and is active and happy.

Feeding Raw

It does indeed boil down to choice and even convienience.... my in laws feed home cooked meals normally, and sometimes kibble. The dog seems fine, they have a Newfie which is now 12 and that is unusual for giant breeds.. The reason for for not mixing the two at the same time is the different digestion times required. RAW is digested quicker than Kibble.

Feeding Raw

Commercial pet food is filled with fillers like rice and rendered fat. Which really isnt healthy.... I do feed raw, and have found that my dogs including the Dane, do much better on Raw than home cooked. I wouldnt feed kibble under any circumstances The dogs generally have cleaner teeth, no anal gland issues, no gas and no doggie smell per se. The coats are better, and they tend to be more lively... It is more expensive though, but well worth it IMHO Switch to raw... completely. Dont mix wet/science plan et al.

My baby is back....

I have to wait until the weekend because I need to travel around europe on work... kind of sucks. But well that is the Consulting world for you
14. Well took about an hour to get her from the Animal Control at frankfurt... no drama. And she is back where she belongs... with her family. Unfortunately she is very very underweight to the point you can see her hip bones and ribs... the damn kennel did not take care of her. She looks like a badly abused little baby. So now begins her therapy... am back feeding her good RMB's and supplimenting that with Satin Balls (Have fed her about 700 gms of this today) and will slowly increase the quantities. The Satin balls are supposed to work wonders on weight gain... lets see how it progresses.... will update. I can barely wait for the weekend so that I can see her again, and suspect that she will bite my head off, because I am the one who took her to the kennel when we were moving. Whats more the Newfoundland has taken a shine to her as well which is good...
15. As we speak her paperwork is being processed at Frankfurt :):)
16. Laila will finally be on a flight from Delhi to Frankfurt on this tuesday. Many thanks to everyone, but most of all to Anne for providing all the information on crates, packging et al. I am excited... and hope everything goes well at Frankfurt. :):)   Also should I expect any issues with at the border with France? I would presume not... Driving to collect the not so little baby...
17. The post is certainly helpful. No real Dane breeders that I know of or associations unfortunately. But I guess one will find out...   Thanks Anne

Feeding Raw?

I am paying about 17 Euros per 10 KG of Chicken (whole), about 7 for Liver/Kidneys, and about 4.5 for Beef in lots of 20 Kg. The upside is the meat is good and even we can cook it and eat it... though the dog looks at us funny when we raid "her" freezer...
19. Now I have yet another problem.... Can not find a prefabricated crate big enough for the Dog. Also the airlines seem clueles as to what is the maximum size they can accomodate....   Anyone have any ideas...
20. Anne PM sent. Thanks for the help. Regards, Afy
21. I work all over the place, and dont believe I spend 183 days in  any country. However I do pay tax in France and into the French social Security system.
22. Potentially I might end up working in the UK, and paying taxes in the UK. However France would continue to be my primary residence, since my wife lives here....   What happens to taxes? France or UK? The company is registered in the UK and will pay into a UK bank account. And potentially I would be travelling across the globe for them.
23. Those of you who brought you Large/Giant dogs into France, how did you transport them? Baggage or Livestock. I am still getting the run around from the airlines, to the point that I have had to Export a Cage from France for my Dane, and then pay import duties in India. :( Now the airlines are giving me the run around. :(
24. If so.. what ahve your experiences with the healthcare system been in France?
25.
Just had to share with everyone the delicious recipe tip in a booklet that came with some Madrange jambon cuit. Mousse au foie a l'Indienne Take some mousse au foie (liver pate). Mix it with a teaspoon of garam masala and two teaspoons of marmalade. Spread on bread. Miam, miam!! That authentic Indian taste ...
That is about as authentic Indian as I am Santa Claus...
