  3. we have a terrace that takes some blasting from the sun, but would like some big pots with hardy plants in. we are only there a few days each month so watering could be a problem.[possible to get them done weekly maybe]. are there any plants/bushes or whatever that would take such a hammering and both survive and look awesome?
  4. thank you-will take that advice-it'll be a cave instead then!
  5. our house has an underground water 'collector' from the old days, with a bucket in the style of a well. long since disused, but can one make use of it a plunge pool with modification etc ? or am i stuck with using it as a cellar-once i create a doorway in !?
  6. Need to cover some newly fitted railings, which have that new 'rusty' wrought iron aspect. I know I can get Hammerite from my local brico, but do I need do anything apart from a gentle 'rub down' before I apply it ? What do we think about finish, Mat Satine or Brilliant ?
  7. i was in Nimes on Friday. i was told the runway work starts 15/10 and airport will be out of action 1 month.
  8. well done-makes sense all of that! guess it will have to be into Carcassone for me,with the extra drive. bummer.
  9. Did anybody get any info on this ? Nothing in the news or on the Ryanair site, just no flights available!
  10. no, they flew all through the last couple of winters, dropping the monday flight this last winter.spoke with Ryanair rep who said it seemed to be a 'tech' problem.i asked directly if there was a dumping of the route, but was told 'not as far as i know'. notice on review that east midlands flights are not up either.maybe a bad sign.
  11. Last flight on looking appears to be October? Any news regards this from Ryanair ?
  12. If I get a dish etc set up with digi box,but do not subscribe [from a UK address naturally!], will the card from my UK based digibox work in France if I take it with me each time I go ? I hope that makes sense, ie I would prefer not to pay for two subscriptions!
  13. i feel a new career coming on. we bought a house in the gard in august 05.we have had various people as local artisans and it just doesn't work.we have had the roof sorted twice and it still leaks, now onto our newly laid wooden floor which the specialist joiners can't be arsed finishing because of a dispute with one other contracter. we had three nights at the house this week and the plumbing leaks in 3 places, and the drains overflowed with bath and shower water. after spending 18000 euros on windows we have to 'rub down' and prepare for a finish.hilarious [not]. yet every contractor wants 30% up front and payment the day the job is [to them] finished. Any reccos for builders in 30 ? near Uzes ?
  14. Thanks, I did read that thread before posting, but not sure it answered my query ! [or maybe i am very slow today!]
  15. We bought old house in Gard Sept 05,and paid owner[through notaire] our 'share' of whatever taxes he had paid for the year. just received our 2 bills for fonc/habit. House needed renovation, and we are near end,but have never stayed in house and no furnishings. anybody give me a definitive answer as to which taxes i must pay ?
  16. we are wirral based and have a recent purchase just outside uzes.we might take you up on taking something back.what space/cost ? regards Tom
  17. hi - am new to the forum. need to get my French conversation to a sensible level. tried Alliance F in Manchester which was fine, but travel time was getting crazy. I have the Michel Thomas stuff and a few books, but really need a bit of structure and somebody to chat me through it all. I am wirral based [Hoylake-home of The Open Championship]. Does anybody know of a course or of a tutor who might be available?
