Its a shame I dont live closer, (Im in Calvados), but think about it as your visits to the house would be more laid back if half the work was already done.
Must get back to planting veg, watering and weeding...

Why dont you pay someone to do it for you? After all those of us out here all the time struggle to make ends meet and could do with the work. Also if your place has uncut grass its a sure target for the burglers.

A big thank you to Tony for his help. We have had two days of hell and things are very different over here for sorting out funerals. All I can say is if you havent thought about it before now, please do. Its not a subject people like to think about but it happens and someone has to sort things out after you have gone. You have a five day limit in which you have to have the funeral, otherwise there is another load of paperwork to think about.
There are a lot of other things but Im too close to it at the moment to go into

Thanks, the mayor said he would help all he can. But its more about bank accounts etc. Funeral, dont know anything about them in France. He didnt really have any money so Im not sure how its going to be paid for etc. Will probably have a more clear head in the mornig.

A friend of ours has just been killed in a car crash, tonight. We are the only people who knew him before he came to France. What happens now? We are trying to get intouch with his sisters, but dont know what to do about funerals etc. We identified him at the scene and have been asked to collect his belongings tomorrow. But dont know what to do now.

Dont forget - no long hair (ie after youve cleaned it out of the shower trap dont throw it in the loo!), no sanatry bits and no kitchen roll (on those odd times you run out of loo roll).
Happy flushing

Sort out GOOD house insurance. Dont buy it from the bank. Have the insurance agent visit the house in person to look at what you are insuring. We lost the roof in the storm '99/2000. It set us back in more ways than one, yet we are still here, poor but happy. Friends of ours lost the whole house and contents in a fire, the insurance wanted photos of proof that the house was 'in good condition', just what they had owned - reciepts for etc. When told they were all in the fire the insurance firm (Axa) said well you should have kept them all elsewhere! Also if you do buy out here try and keep a foothold in the UK market, just incase you want to go back.
Good luck with your choices, its not easy out here

We did go to Point d'Ouilly and got a pitch in the school playground, but it was so wet that we didnt get our stock out. Its mainly paper based - records, hand made cards, books etc and didnt want to reuin it. So sorry to all those we looked out for us.

We are getting to the end of the 'season' for vide greniers, but there is one in Pont d'Ouilly, Calvados on 29 October (105 stalls). We hope to be there with a stall, weather permitting, look out for us and our red van! So far this year we have only looked round vide greniers and not had a stall. Its a very early start and a long day.

I make hand made cards and sell a few. Maybe we could join forces to buy in bulk card blanks etc or swap ideas.
