1. The OP states that he is a War Pensioner. A war pension is not taxed in the UK (full title is "war disability pension") and if you read the paperwork for a French tax return, should not be entered on that. he may also have a military pension, which is different and that is taxed in the UK and should be entered on the French tax return.

He will have to pay some property taxes, but at that level of income, no income tax.

  2.

Did anyone watch on Monday. I could not believe what I was watching when they spoke to the pompous p**t. It's people like him who give us ex-pats a bad name.

Or is it just me that thought that.

    Suey
Oh I was shouting at him and Midge or whatever his lady friend was called... just glad he lives in the Lot-et-Garonne!  You're right Sweet - you could not invent him!  I could say so many things about him... but I think it's best to keep some things to yourself [Www]

I still love the sausage man and his family... and the alpaca man, he seemed a very nice chap too.  I could happily share a coffee with them but Lord what's-his-face... I'd be off in the other direction if I saw him coming I'm afraid [:$]

I am also still loving the scenery - there is some lovely footage.  How do you reckon they filmed the overhead stuff?
Easy to film from a microlight, I have seen shots like that many times, but my wife is too busy taking photos of hot air baloons to put the camera on video mode! Rose if you are between Bergerac and Perigueux, you must have seen us flying over many times.
I'll second that, but the sim is free from their website. I put it into a cheap Leclerc mobile when read about Lebera giving a much better deal than Leclerc.

Our friends were paying around 4€ give or take a pop for cartouches in leclerc for their canon printer. I made sure I checked on prices of ink before buying one. And use their printer, they certainly did, 100's of copies at a time.

It was just a pity that our puter would not accept a canon printer and we ended up with an epsom and epsom prices.
That is like saying my car won't drive on Dunlop tyres! With the correct driver a PC will see any printer.
Just watched it and had to rewind a bit. I am sure that the Dordogne chippie who has been here for years has a UK plate on the chippie trailer! That would make it illegal when being towed by his French registered Jeep. If they flout the laws on trailer registration then do they do the same on French food safety legislation?

Some one please tell me that I am wrong and there were French plates on that trailer.
Oh dear!! But who really gives a monkey's?
Perhaps the local French people who see Brits coming here to make as much as they can from France without sticking to the rules themselves.

Perhaps someone who gets food poisoning because they don't think that they need to comply with French food regulations either as they have a UK plate on the food wagon.

  7.
Thank you for your further responses everyone.

I am going to take this matter up with my U.K. insurers & seek further clarification from them on all aspects raised.

    sara
Why do you keep going on about your UK insurers? They probably know little about French law and it is not their job to ensure that you comply with it.

  8.
I saw the worst possible british evasion yesterday. A car in a supermarket car park near me. UK registration( S registration ) 07 tax disc, no CT or insurance on windscreen!!!

    How bad is that !!
There is a 4x4 that has been driving around in my village with UK plates on it for 7 years now. It has no CT or MOT, I know as the owner told me. Not sure if he even has any insurance.

  9.
The first couple of vehicles I brought over from the UK over a 2-3 year period were all insured with a French company and although the broker speaks very good English he never explained about the 6 month rule and just kept renewing the policy at it's anniversary. I learnt about the requirements to re register the UK vehicles in France from this forum. In fact the broker was upset when I no longer took French insurance on my UK cars. Not all of the owners of UK cars maybe guilty of this crime if their insurers are just taking the money and it's on record they are surely culpable too in this crime?
To be fair to the broker, it is not his job to enforce the law on the import of vehicles. If you got a job as an insurance salesman in the UK, would you then feel that you need to study law to advise customers?

I long for the time to arrive when one can take one's car anywhere in the EU without hassle. If the EU lasts that long [6]

Just like it was before the EU.
I think that you can take your car anywhere you want provided that it is either full French registered or fully UK registered and legal in either of those countries.

Cars are one thing, but it is such a shame that the UK puts barriers in the way should a French registered microlight want to fly to the UK, but there are no restrictions the other way around.

  11. Love the words "As for speaking the language, we have made the effort and have made great strides with it especially at our age". Those nasty locals who have lived in the village all of their lives should take your age into account and learn to speak English just for you.

  12.
Hi,

Wow lot's of help there then. Ou french insurance said that he will insure the car for a month until we change the plates. As you say that is illegal although he assures us it's not. We have taken out an insurance with the garage while we're in the Uk. Currently getting quotes now for the car. A french insurer can't fully insure you until you have the log book etc. Hope this will be helpful to other people. We have made a saving of about 7000 on the car buying it from the Uk. It is LHD too. Thanks.
Never believe your French insurer. His job is to get his hands on the premiums, and not to advise on the law. Should the police (French or British)  get you for doing something wrong, it will be you that is in the merde not the insurer.

  13.
I am thinking of buying a 2 berth caravan for touring around France etc.

I have been told that they are expensive here.

    Any information would be welcome.
You say you have been told, have you looked at the sites where such things are sold yourself?
