This makes very interesting and worrying reading. I like Fiona have bought a property 50/50 with my partner and he has two sons, (21 and 18 years old) to his previous wife and I have none. I wasnt aware of all this until this morning when we went to draw a will up at a UK solicitor only to be told that they can not do one for the property in France and that this would have to be completed in France due to the different rulings. Surely if we both had wills made out in France leaving the property to each other my partners share will not go to his children ???? I meant to ask the solicitor whether the ruling changes when the kids are a certain age or is it for life. It seems unfair when they have their own lives and familes and are no longer dependents to inherit my partners share, especially as one hasnt spoke to him for 2 years now and doesnt want to know him. Does anyone know of any english speaking solicitors in the Auxerre or Clamecy (Burgundy region 89) that we can get a will drawn up ??

I have recently purchased a house in France and are thinking of renting it out. How do you go about finding someone to clean the house each time someone has occupied it and look after it and what sort of costs could I expect to pay.

If you have a French mortgage does the life insurance policy to cover this have to be taken out in France or can it be set up in th UK so the policy is in English. Also the same question for house insurance.  

Does anyone know of any good plumbers and builders near Clamecy or Auxerre (Burgundy Region 89) that speak some English

Thank you for this, very informative. I have gone on other sites and its all abit mind blowing but what you have said makes sense.

Is it a legal requirement to obtain Public Liability Insurance when renting properties out in France to cover for possible injuries that may occur.  

Does anyone know what percentage is charged for stamp duty on properties in France, or their equivalent. (Not fees just stamp duty)

   I have a sky box with card and satellite and they all are connected to TV. However I can still only get French TV channels. I have tried moving the dish but without success. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
