1. Now I am worried!  The site looked genuine, the form looked genuine - it was only when it got to the payment part that I wondered what was going on.  But then I thought maybe it's paying for an accountant or similar to help process your application.  I have entered my address, dob, social security number there!!!  What should I do?
2. Hi, I have been meaning to register as an AE for the last couple of months and finally got round to doing it today.  However the online form linked to from www.autoentrepeneur.fr looks totally different (much simpler), but on page two it takes me to a pay screen and asks for payment of 79 euros??  Is this new?  Should I just go to the chamber of commerce and do it there?? thansk
3. Thanks Polly, if we do go back into would be for at least 6 months. So essentially the pet passport applies and we would have to get the necessry vaccinations and micro-chipping (which we would have to do regardless). thank you
4. Hi, we are really keen to get a puppy here (have promised the kids for ages!), but there is a strong possibility we may have to move back to the UK - at least for a while. The puppy we may take has not been microchipped yet. Can someone please let me know what I would need to do fully register and vaccinate a puppy and to enable us to take her back to the UK?? thanks
5. Hi, I am currently covered and have a Carte Vitale through my e106, which is valid until Jan 2011. However, I have recently started doing some part time home based work for which I intend to register as AE to pay my taxes etc. My question is; if I register as an AE now will my current E106 cover be cancelled - and could I potentially end up with less health cover than at present? Also can I back date my declared earnings? So if I don't register until August do I just declare what I have earned from now until then? Hope you can help Thanks
6. He was self-employed, has been for over 30 years.  Would like to try and register online if I can but was a bit worried that if I register him as "activities artisinal" then it may mean I have to provide qualifications for him.
7. Hi, I am going along to my local Chambres de Metiers this week to (hopefully) register myself and my partner as AE's.  Is there anything I should be aware of?  What paperwork do I need to bring?  My partner's trade in the UK was ceiling fixer/partitioner/dryliner.  Will he be expected to register as an Artisan or can he register as a general maintenance man?  He has no qualifications as such for his trade - just 30 years of experience!  Any advice would be much appreciated. thanks
8. Hi, I have an E106 which is valid until Jan 11.  However I have just started working for myself and am going to register under the AE scheme.  What I wanted to find out is what is the minimum amount I need to earn and contribute in order to be covered under the health system.  I know that one of the advantages of AE is that if you earn zero you just declare zero and then pay zero tax etc.  However what amount do you need to pay in to be covered?  As it's a new venture it's hard to gauge how much I will earn this year - it could be as little as 5,000 euros for the yar, but it could (hopefully!) be more. Many thanks
9. Hi, I am currently covered for healthcare by my E106 and have my carte vitale issued by CPAM.  However, I have just created a little website which I hope will generate some business and want to register as an Autoentrepreneur.  However, it seems I have to change caisse when I do this to another provider.  But - if CPAM is the provider for an E106 does this mean my E106 will no longer be valid, and if I don't make any money - and therefore have no cottisations to pay - with this business venture, will I then in theory not be covered by anyone??? thanks Fiona
10. Hi,  I plan to register, under the AutoEntrepeneur scheme, as a Property Finder (not an Estate Agent - someone who looks on behalf of clients), with my partner as a property maintenance.  I presume we both register individually for these and I plan to create a website and advertise my business that way.   However, we also plan to do market stalls selling general bric a brac type stuff that we can source really cheap in the UK, and I also plan to sell Phoenix cards. So my question is - do I have register 3 times with 3 different types of businesses (or would Phoenix cards and market stalls fall under the same heading?).  Can I run two different types of business under the AE scheme? Any advice welcome Thanks Fi
11. Hi, we are looking into buying one or two appartments/houses here to do up and rent out long term.  We are currently renting out our house at home which generates a small income for us after we pay our rent and standing orders here.   We have been in France since March and after our rental agreement is up here (6 months) plan to buy a place but are keeping our budget down in order to keep our mortgage repayments the same as the rent we currently pay.  Therefore we hope to be able to generate further income to live off by buying investment properties to rent out long term.  Can anyone please tell me what the income tax rate (and other charges) we would have to pay on rental income here?  Worst case scenario is that it would be our only income as we currently have no work as yet (but aim to change this).  Many thanks Fi
12. Hi there,  can anyone please advise if the Autoentrepeneur scheme is restricted to only one line of business??  For example, I am thinking of selling Phoenix cards and wrapping paper - however we are also thinking of doing more general sales at market stalls (perhaps some bric a brac, books, household goods etc) that we can source in the UK and bring over.  I wanted to know if I can declare all my sales income through one scheme or if it would have to be only the Phoenix sales? Also, my partner is planning on doing a bit of building work - could we also declare his work through the Autoentrepeneur scheme or would he have to register himself as a different status? Many thanks for your advice Fi
13.
Right, Fiona, I'm a bit more clued up about your situation now. [:)] As you are going to have your healthcare via an E106 then you will have, automatically, declared your intention to relinquish your British domicile.  You will also have to register it at your CPAM.  Thus I see no getting away from declaring tax in France also for the duration of your stay, however long that may turn out to be.
But my partner will not be on an E106 and will change his address to c/o friends, where we plan to register the cars to. He will genuinely have to spend a fair bit of time in the UK for at least the first 4 months so surely this is a perfectly legal way around it as the cars are registered to him, not me??  I have no problems declaring tax etc in France - that is not what the debate was about.  It was just simply if there was a way around having to re-register the cars, just in case we find at the end of 6 months that it's not going to work out for us and we have to head back to the UK.  Given the current state of the Uk though I sincerely hope that's not the case - I really want it to work out in France!  I don't want to avoid being in the French system at all - to be honest I would rather pay tax and cottisations so I know that when my E106 expires I will be in the system there.  It's just the cars I am trying to work out!  To be honest, when we move we may just sell the UK registered car and buy a French one!   Thanks again folks Fi
14. (finally corrected my spelling! [:)].   Thanks again folks, I feel like I have opened a real can of worms here!  I totally agree - re the insurance policies - the whole point of having insurance is that you can rest assured they will pay out if required.  I think in fairness to Vida it sounds to me as if their situation is legal.  If her husband is returning to the UK frequently and is living with this parents then surely it is absolutely fine to have the cars registered to that address?  As Andy says these policies are intended for long holidays/touring.  Our current camper van insurance allows us to be out of the country for 6 months at a time.  The reason we have set a 6 month deadline is because that is how long we can rent the gite for - then we MUST decide if we go back, or find somewhere else and then we will have to make sure all is in order.  I think we are likely to follow a similar course as Vida initially - as my partner will be going back to the UK fairly frequently for work, he is going to be staying with friends when he returns and we will likely register the cars there for a the first 6 months, keep them UK legal.  He will still be effectively living in the UK but visiting France for weeks on end.  Myself and the children will be living in France full time and our healthcare (i.e. myself and the children) will be covered by my E106.
15. Ah, you're an Aberdonian are you Dave.....me too!
16. thanks folks, and thanks for the link to the other thread - really sorry, I hadn't seen it!  Sounds like the portable dish should be just the ticket - it looks like the one that Ernie posted a link to on Amazon - so hopefully I needn't miss one minute of the X Factor when it comes back (I know, how sad am I [:D]) thanks again
17. Hi there,  we already subscribe to Sky in the UK and plan to continue with our subscription when we move next month.  We plan to take our box and card with us (and possibly our dish?). Sorry, I don't care - I am really looking forward to moving but I like Coronation Street etc etc and I am not ashamed to admit it [;-)]   However, initially we are renting a furnished gite which has a telly but it is not plugged into an ariel.  Question is - will it be very expensive to get kitted out to have Sky there?  If so I don't think my partner will be too impressed, seeing as we will be moving out of there after 6-8 months.  We do have a little portable satellite which we bought for the camper van, and to be honest have never used in our van as we do actually manage to get by with the telly when we travel in it.  It's one of these that folds away in a case and you point it in the right way to pick up the signal - it is supposed to work all the way down into Spain but we have never used it.  Would this work on the tv in the place we are renting? many thanks Fi
18. Hi, thanks for all your responses.  I have to admit though I am slightly confused as to what my status will be now!  We are letting our house out in the UK for the initial 12 month, with a 6 month break clause, short term agreement - although the tenants look like they are very keen to stay long term.  So regardless of what we do long term in France the likelihood is we would not move back as we had felt that we had outgrown it - so we would use the rental income to rent elsewhere in UK, or possibly to pay a mortgage.  Anyway that is neither here nor there in this scenario.  We are intially renting for 6 months in Ariege - one of the owners' parents are moving down to live in it so we are renting until that happens/  We will have no immediate income in France.  We have no jobs to go to.  Instead, we are living off money saved over the last couple of years when I have been contracting in IT.  As our UK rental income covers all of our French rent plus a reasonable surplus we could live off our savings for at least a year, possibly more.  However, we don't intend to do that.  Whilst contracting I set up my own limited company which I drew a salary from - that is how we will live during the next few months - drawing a salary from my company which will continue to be registered to the house we own (but will rent out) in the UK, as will our bank accounts.  As we have been working so hard for the last couple of years to get ready to move we are giving ourselves about 3-4 months off just to rest, recuperate, bond again as a family and to see how we can survive/live long term.  Then after this period we will start to really look for work opportunities.  My partner is a builder and he intends to buy a property in the UK, while prices are low, to do up and rent which will provide another income.  After the 6 months or so (it's not cast in stone as the owner's parents have still to sell their place), it could be 7 or even 8 months, we will then decide if we are going to find a long term rental. or buy in France - or if we will move back to the Uk.  So that's about it! BTW, Dave - the Delica is great!  We bought ours when we did a 3 month trip through France and Spain when I was on a year long maternity leave.  It is great for long journeys and it took us up to the ski resorts in the Pyrenees no problem.  Bit gutsy on diesel though.  thanks again Fiona
19. Hi, I have read through the FAQ and other threads on the subject which are very informative but equally scary considering what seems to be involved in re-registering vehicles in France!  We are going, initially for 6 months (whether we stay longer depends on how we settle, enjoy etc etc).  We have a place to stay initially for 6 months and if we want to stay longer then we will look for a longer term let.  However, we have niaively been planning on this without really giving that much thought to our car situation.  We have a Uk registered Citroen Picasso, a Japanese grey import (just to complicate matters) Mitsubishi Delica and a camper van.  We planned to take all 3 vehicles with us.  Our house in the UK will be rented out (although I plan to keep that as my "registered" address for bank accounts etc).  However, as we - certainly for the first 2 months or so - won't know if we are staying beyond the 6 month period, is there any way around the re-registration issue?  I don't want to do anything that would invalidate my insurance but I just wondered how much I could get away with.  It seems very long winded to have to re-register them in France if we may end up re-registering them back in the UK just months later! Many thanks
20. Hi there - we are moving to Aigues Vives, which is near Mirepoix, at the end of March. Renting initially so location could change.  And thanks - you are so right, it sounds like it could be useful side venture - perhaps not a main income, but it all helps!  What are you going to be doing?  PM me if you want - am always happy to meet other newbies in the area! Incidentally Dave - where in Scotland were you based?
21. Hi Dave - thanks for your very helpful response, lots to think about and consider.  Not wishing to be too hard on my home country but I'm not surprised that crime was an issue - I wonder (am I being naive?) if it would be less of an issue in rural France? We don't have premises yet - the idea came about when we were really interested in a property for sale.  It was a huge place, which could eventually be turned into a hotel/b&b with a part of it sectioned off to live in, it also had a few outbuildings and a couple of open hangars.  We thought the caravan storage would be a good (albeit small) income that could be generated straight away whilst the rest of the property was being done - an ongoing project.  However, we lost out on it so it's back to the drawing board.  We are moving over to Ariege in March and will be in rented for at least 6 months - we will then have the time to really look at places/schools/options for business ideas.  I think this is a potentially good idea and there is clearly a market out there - we just need to make sure we find the right premises and dot all the i's and cross all the t's thanks again
22. That's an idea Ernie, thanks - I could ask my parents as I think they are quite happy with freeview. Otherwise I should let me tennants know to just say nothing about us if they want to subscribe?  If they don't know where we have gone then Sky hopefully can't/won't do anything?
23. thank you very much Cooperlola Fi
