1.
Well, two things I noticed with the GPS. Its a TomTom One that I bought a few years back and have never updated. Its never been near a PC in its life.
Thereby lies the answer! You may find that a software update and reset to its default status will go a long way to solving your problems.

In relation to disarming the Speed Camera function, http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5560/?locale=en_GB contains all the details.

  2.
I read that one - its very tedious, and not what has happened to mine.
Yes I agree! Not helped by the other party having no knowledge whatsoever of the difference between GPS and radar detectors.

I'm glad someone was appreciative of my assistance; http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/2659808/ShowPost.aspx

If you would care to share your problem Dave, I'll try and assist - without the help of a certain third party intervening!

We have a Garmin satnav with speed camera notification as basic.  Does anyone know how to disable it?

    Presuming  it is a Nuvi;

At the welcome screen, touch the spanner icon > Proximity Points > Alerts > Change. Untick the box "Garmin Safety Cameras", press OK. Job done!

CAUTION - If you've downloaded a Safety camera database from elsewhere other than Garmin, you'll also need to untick the box "Custom POI's".

Last night I had a visit from a brit couple to watch the Cabalgata de Los Reyes Magos on Spanish Television and the conversation got round to radar trap warnings.

My comments went something like this....WHAT you have a Garmin that tells you where radar traps are......BUT that is illegal....DIDNT anyone tell you.....BUT if the gendarmes stop you and see that WOW....they will confiscate it ...give you 6 points ...AND fine you € 1500.

They leave for the tunnel on Sunday morning.[:)]

Well I warned them.....they replied Dont be silly!
I take it the "brit couple" are residents of the UK, with UK driving documents?

Therefore, it was very wise of you to offer the benefit of your extensive knowledge, especially in relation to the "6 points"! So how does that work?

No Garmin will warn you or anyone else for that matter, of the location of radar traps. They may inform you of fixed Speed Camera locations, or sites favoured for the operation of mobile Speed Cameras.
But the question is has saline sammy disabled his data base or is he being refractory.
Simple answer, I have a Garmin with no Speed Camera database. I also have a secondary GPS with a new advisory database which appears to satisfy the requirements of  M. Sarkozy and hopefully, is fully compliant with your understanding of the legislation.

Of course, I must remember to select the correct operational mode prior to disembarking the ferry, and ensure the camera location option is switched to 'off', and the advisory database switched to 'on'. However I feel sure that even with my limited intelligence, I'll manage to achieve that small task![blink]

  5. You can bet she'll be smiling if and when, dear David receives a knighthood for all his excellent work(?) promoting the forthcoming olympic fiasco! Her present pouting unsmiling style is obviously essential practice at the thought of her becoming a 'Lady'.

As for that baby, all the shots I've seen it appears Ms Beckham 'wears' baby like some kind of fashion accessory![:@]

I know and when in the area, frequent a rather splendid place in  Pozières, a fantastic place in Lens, at least two in Arras, ........

Perhaps you should get out more Chancer![:)]

I shall be this week avoiding money & religion.

I shall be incurring a normal weekly expenditure and not participating in the morally obscene largesse associated with the birth of a "minor prophet".
Oh please PPP, don't sound so depressing. You go ahead and celebrate the birth of the "minor prophet".

I'm sure if we'd have known earlier, we could have all clubbed together and bought you a birthday card![:D]

  8.
......... with directions of how to get to the charity coffee morning being held around the corner, by another English couple.
There you go idun, if it's a English run affair - French rules don't apply![:D]

Isn't trespass a flimsey law in the UK too?

I seem to remeber un welcome guests in the grounds of Buck House used to get nicked for other acts not for trespass.
Trepass is not a criminal offence in England and Wales. It is a civil offence. The sign "Trespassers will be prosecuted" is unsound in law and should read "Trespassers will be sued". There is no law of trespass in Scotland.
Trespass can be a criminal offence in England & Wales. It all depends on circumstances.

In Scotland, certain types of trespass have been criminal since the Trespass (Scotland) Act 1865.

Ironically, if the trespasser trips over an unseen plant pot and injures themself, the property owner could be liable! Where an injury has occurred as a result of neglect, the fact that the intruder was uninvited is not always relevant.

Remove the air filter trunking and spray some easy start down the manifold, it should fire up immediately albeit with lots of knocking.

Dont use the easy start too often as diesel engines become addicted to it, I am being serious.
Be very careful with your application of Easy Start if you must use it at all!

A farmer near me narrowly escaped serious injury when his old tractor engine exploded through over application.

If I was you I'd go for a new battery and heater plugs. In fact unless I'm very much mistaken, Easy Start should NEVER be used on a diesel engine fitted with a pre-heater.

Seriously, I don't really understand the ratings war obsession any more.  Is there any real point in fighting over these slots when people can just record the programme and watch it when they feel like it without all the tedious ads interrupting  every five minutes?  Apart from sporting events when you don't want to learn the result on the news before you've seen it, I see little point in watching programmes as they are broadcast these days, especially on the commercial channels.
To be able to record, one needs a recorder! Strange as it may seem, there are many who do not possess the means.

Those who keep Sky but refuse to pay the exhorbitant costs are limited to watching the free channels without the ability to record, while others (certainly in my part of the world), are opting for Freeview or a basic Freesat box without a record facility.

Sign of the times with people being a bit more prudent as to how they spend their money perhaps?
Aw, now go on... I'll be speculating all day as to what you were going to say.

I'm now allocating muppet personalities to many of our forum regulars. A great game for all the family!
Simply a technical hitch with the antiquated software this board runs on, where my post (as above) failed to show.

When it comes to Muppets ...............

When I was at Hillcrest Preparatory School in Swanage in 1940's it would have been regarded as being correct to write " a number of questionable USES of phrases". How things have changed!

    Alright smarta**e,
The first 3 installments of the 7 episode season will be shown tonite ....
At least I learnt how to spell "tonight".

    Get a life man.

  13.
I watched over an hour of it before the UFC cage fighting on RTL9, as Pachapapa said the dubbing was excellent, I then switched to the VO soundtrack and it was so pleasureable to hear English spoken correctly/properly without any of the modern clichés or likes, innits, nowotimeans, a bit like listening to the BBC world service, I  would recommend the program (in VO) to any French that want to improve their English, not that I know of any!!!
Keep watching Chancer, in this series there were a number of questionable use of phrases which wouldn't have featured at the time.

ITV have played a blinder in an attempt to grab peak viewer figures for Christmas Day, with the final episode of series 2, episode 8, being shown at 21:00 hrs within the UK.

It is possible that the well known GPS provider is unaware of the legal implications of not being included in the prorogative protocole.
May I suggest that you contact the "well known GPS provider" and offer them the benefit of your legal expertise in this matter, as I'm sure they would appreciate it!

Oh, and please report back here when you have a response.

  15.
Just because I don't agree doesn't make me wrong.
Before I retired I spent over 40 years involved in vehicle maintenance and in my opinion all these fuel additives are worthless.  Don't you think the people who make fuel would add these components if they made a noticable difference. IMHO the best way to protect your engine is to use the best engine oil you can afford.
While not an additive in as much as it is contained in a seperate tank, with a seperate injection system, would you class the following as "worthless"?

  16. The submission from Garmin Europe was for information as to when an update would be available, for the benefit of other Garmin users on this forum.

It wasn't posted for your benefit, and I think your time would be far better spent learning how to reduce the size of images you choose to post, and providing credit to whichever site you 'borrowed' it from. Your legal background obviously failed to address copyright law!

I'm sure your extensive knowledge of using Google will provide instructions easily enough, just as you found the out of date information regarding the tie in between TomTom and Coyote!
