  1. Could someone enlighten me as to how these are piped and wired up please.

I assume that they are some form of immersion heater but ours has no

header tank so are they under mains pressure or what and how is

    expansion taken care of?

All the houses we viewed and the one we eventually bought dont have any

timers on as is usual in the UK.  Is there any reason for this as

it seems a waste of power if they are just on all the time as ours

appears to be when the breaker is on.

Must say it works brilliantly and the house we have bought has just had

a new one but I would like to know how it works just in case of a

    problem.

    Thanks

  2. Might be worth a call to Toyota Customer Services and asking them if there is a mask pattern available.

A few years ago I had a Saab and they supplied a template FOC.

Went ot Woolies and got a roll of black fablon and kept making them as and when needed. Dead cheap option.

  3. Does anyone know if its OK to take a peage doofah on a plane, either in baggage or hand luggage.

We usually drive down to the Pyrenees but as we are only going for a

long weekend we are flying down and hireing a car so we need to take

    the doofah on the plane.

Just wondered as I assume the doofah is transmitting a signal of some sort all the time.

    Thanks

  4. We need to decorate the  inside walls in a small chalet we have just bought in the Pyrenees.

The walls are the usual  Artex like stuff and we just want to overpaint it.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced emulsion amd where to get it please.

From what I can see a lot of French paint seems to be very expensive compared with England.

I would prefer to buy in France when we get there as I dont fancy about 10L of paint in the car.

    Any ideas please

  5. My partner and myself are in the same position and are just finalising the purchase.

We both have one child from previous marriages and in the end we

decided to do the simple thing and buy the property 50/50 and leave

individual shares to our respective children.

We looked at all sorts of supposed ways round the issue but in the end

it seemed to us that there was no positive way to make sure that in the

event of the death  of one of us the other could inherit fully.

As we all get on well as a family we felt it wasnt worth the hassle and expense of trying to get round it.

We also took the view that either of us probably would not want to keep the property any way if the other died.

In our case the property is a relatively low value, (approx £100k) and

is a second home so I can understand if it is a high value and a

primary home that we may have acted differently.

  6. We are just in the process of purchasing a small house in the Pyrenees and need to get the insurance sorted out.

At the moment, simply for convenience, we would prefer to deal with an

English company then later on when we get more confident in the

language we intend to use a French company.

Has anyone got any recommendations for an English based company please?

We need house and contents cover and will possibly rent the house out on odd occasions

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

  7. We are about to complete the purchase of a property in the Pyrenees and will want to fit more sockets.

I have done a fair ammount of wiring in the UK so am OK with the

mechanics of it but just want to make sure that I do things properly in

    France.

I am aware the the the wiring to sockets is a radial circuit and that

as far as I can see up to eight sockets are normall allowable depending

    on the circuit rating.

If there are not this many sockets on the circuit is it allowable to

take spurs off  (as in the UK) or do any extra sockets have to

come from the last existing socket.

Is DIY wiring actually allowed in France or is it like the UK where it can now only be done professionally?

    Thanks for any help

  8. We are seriously considering buying a small chalet near Cauterets and

wondered if anyone else has experience of owning property here.

All seems very friendly on the surface but we have heard one or two tales about the the locals not being happy with the British

We would want to rent the property out for a few weeks a year really

just to cover the costs and  would be grateful if anyone can

recommend any of the management/cleaning  companies in Cauterets.

Many thanks for a any help or advice

  9. We got back last week after a two week stay in the Pyrenees and really

enjoyed this boat.  Swimming pool is great, not big but OK on the

top deck with a sliding roof.

Not as well stocked as the P & O boat but we thought very good value.

We were due to sail on the second sailing from Portsmouth and

eventually we managed it OK after a fraught time when the inspectors

    stopped the boat carrying passengers.

Got a £150 refund fro all the messing about so ended up paying about £400 return.
