  1. I have put a web site on my last notice there are many more websites and some seed catologues sell them also.(mainly organic ones)

Its a greenway of killing slugs which dosnt affect any other form of wild life its none poisonious to cats kids, dogs ect...

It is a natural predator of the slug, it gets inside of it and kills it, its quite amazing stuff, and last a lot longer than it says on the packet, the only thing that seems to kill it is the cold,  it is the only thing that i have found that actualy works, you can also bye from the same place natural predators to green fly red spider mite and other things. check out the web site. good luck with the slimy critters

  4. In the very old days before my mother had a fridge, and we lived in singapore, she use to have a box type cupboard with thin wire mesh on the front to keep  flys out but to let air circulate, this was make from some type of stone which stayed cold (maybe marble or the likes)she use to keep her meat in this cupboard and this use to work for her. maybe if you have a local gravestone maker(who uses marble) you could ask him to knock you one up. But i hope your french is good(i would like to lisen to that conversation) Or is that a daft idea, still it worked for my old mum!
  5. sorry yes I did get you both mixed up there ...........but im awake now..

I have come to the conclusion if you sit on the wall for to long worring about what might happen you will never do anything.

How is the build going have you started yet? can you go over for holidays and camp there? I dont know the area where you are whats it like ? have you been to carcassonne which is our nearest big town? its loverly also it has the canal du midi we love canals we lived up north for eight years on a narrowboat about 9 years ago, and i havnt run this past my husband yet but im thinking we buy a narrow boat live on it in the summer, and rent our house out, we will be near enough to do the change over and look after it, rent out the house here with an agentcy this way we could earn enough to live though the winter, do you think he will fall for it..................? sounds like a good idea to me, mind you im on my 3rd beer at the mo and ideas always seem good after the 3rd one........... speak soon

  6. Hello

yes I have been having a good read on that site but i think some people have axes to grind and others just seem to make it up as they go alone, so im going to wait till we speak to our notaire and see where we stand , as we get older ifwe have to we could always sell the house and end our years renting, Just as long as the one of us that is left is covered that is all that matters but that is a long time away yet and we have a lot of living to do first and who knows in 10 years time we might want to live in outer mongolia so dose it all matter really? did you say you lived near the mon: noir are you high(climate wise) I was just wondering how the veggies grow that high up? do you get a good long season?

  7. we have just brought a place in pradelles carbardes, its a pretty village just north of cabrespine, We normally stay in cabrespine, if you go there at cherriy time people give you cherries by the bucket for nothing, we were staying there in April/may and each morning we woke up people had put onions and lettuce and some other green things we didnt know on our door knob. which was really nice although we did also find a empty beer bottle one morning we wernt to sure what that meant? also we were stopped one morning by a old bloke on a bike and he had a water bottle full of red wine which he gave us, we tryed to ask why every one gave us stuff but the only answer we could understand was "why not?" so on our last day we went to the super market and brought loads of chocolate and spent the last night drunkenly putting chocolates on all the door steps we could find near us, bet that confused them! I hope every one in our new village are as nice as they are in caprespine. Have you ever been there? where in carcassonne are you?we  met a nice english lady in the best of british shop have you been there she sells speckled hen beer (a essential part of life in this house hold)  Im a big veg gardener do you know what grows well that high , I didnt see many people growing veg in P.C as I did in cabrespine, I hope its not going to be to high there? so was it you with the plane the day we brought the house 2nd may somewhere between carcassonne and cucux carbes?
  8. how about a big cool box (the type people take on picnics) you could keep an ice block wrapped  up in side (dont let it touch veggies) this will keep it cool ish plus they are air tight which will help them to stay fresh
  9. we have taken our dogs on many a holiday with us and would not ever think of wanting them in our room, they dont do that at home, so why on holiday if the owners dont have any where for our dogs to sleep, then they are happy to stay in the car for the night. I would not want to stay in a room where a dog had been sleeping as a dog owner i know where thoses hairs can get to. at home they have there own beds and a old sofa in the conservatory where we all sit and have a cuddle. but they know they arnt allowed on the sofa in the living room, its all about training and bounderies, as with children! would you want children in your house who jump up and down on the sofa with there shoes on? and as owner /parent would you let them?
  10. I dont know a lot about the subject but one thing i now for s ure is you can only use certain woods 2 of which are apple wood and oak , there is a lady down the road from me who smokes fish and game she has a web site i will look for it and post it on later
  11. I think when people sell things now adays they expect a bit of haggling, so he wont be offended not only that you will be doing him a favour he isnt going to want to drag it all the way home is he? I agree nail him......
  12. Hello my husband and I have no children and as we are now getting on its unlikley we ever will.

Where do we stand on inheritance laws, we want to be able to both own our house (which we are in the midle of bying ) and not have to pay inheritance taxes if one shold die . can we use  the "communaute universelle" as it is both of our savings with which we are bying the house with? which makes us partners in the ownership.

will we have to leave our house to unknow nieces and nephews?

or do we have any choice in the matter? I can not beleive this has not been taken to some higher court in europe before now. My husband and I have worked hard all our lives to be told we have to give it to people we dont know or respect annoys the hell out of me(am I the only one?)

but I gues once im dead I wont care but can they really turf me out once my husband dies? (as i have heard)

  13. hello

we hav'nt quite decided what we are doing at the moment, if it was down to me we would of moved out 20 years ago, we are going to start out using it as a holiday home, as our main worry at the moment is getting into the strange world of french taxes. my husband can acually live anywhere as when he works he goes away fom home anyhow, so it dosnt matter where we live, I do have a job but, as im jack of all trades im happy to go any where any time, but we want to spend some time getting to understand the laws and taxes before we make that final jump, another thing that worries us is the inheritance laws , we dont have any human children, and im loathed to leave my home to niece's and newphews i dont even know, especially while one of us is still alive and they end up kicking us out. so while we are out there in august to sign the final contracts on the house we need to see what we can do about the will, I understand you can have a communaute universelle, which means you are joint owners instead of husband/ wife owners, but other people say you cant do this as its looked on as tax avoidance!!!! so we have a lot to find out, plus income tax is a lot higher out there so it looks as if its a holiday home until hubby stops work, but i dream of my little b/b one day.............

My other dog is a german shepheard so i guess he will need a muzzel? he has never had to wear one and becomes a bucking bronco if we go any where near him with one, so i dont know what is going to happen when we try to get him though cutoms should be great fun I think. But my little girl (balloo)will be on her best behavour, as long as there a biscuit in it for her, although she will do her utmost to wind Tigue up as she is a little strirrer . In fact she has just stolen tigues chew after eating her own, is streched out in the sun on the sofa in the conseravtory, moaning at him every time he trys to get his chew back, and as he is a hen pecked husband he is to scared to snatch it off her which he could do as he is twice the size of her, so i guess i will have to go and save him again, poor lad. do yours steal? I cant leave a sandwhich unattended for 2 seconds before it has gone. then when you come back in she is actually staring at tigue and if she could talk she would be blaming him, but we know he wouldnt do anything like that, although he always looks guilty, i can go on forever about my dogs so i shut up now.and get back to my teach your self french c.d.

do you work out there? if so are you self employed? do you know anything about self employed taxes? we had planned to live in france while renting this house out, that would of covered my wages while hubby carried on with his work but it looks like if we do it that way we have to pay tax on both side (twice) which seems a rip off but we have to find out for sure then we will know what we are doing. stilll one day...........

take care speak soon i hope

  14. hello maggi many thanks for your message, thats kind of you , I may well take you up on that . Your right I do find each time i go out to france i come back with a few more words in my volcabuary, this time it was ''degustation'' after we did the deal on our house we visited a few places with our last few days to celebrate. Ha, well if you have 2 dalmatians you must have a very good sence of humour, mine is like a walking cartoon strip, she makes me laugh all day. Do you know, do dogs have to wear muzzels in public in france? I never did french at school either (german for some reason) Do you speak french to each other at home on your own , and do you dream in french? I was just wondering......... speak again soon I hope
  15. no dont let is fly all over your lettuce because, as the grass dies it will stick to the leaves and mark them , instead gently place it around the base, but dont let it touch the lettuce.
  16. hello Im planning to take my 2 dogs with us to france for the first time they are already chipped and ready to go, what I would like to know is what is the process like getting them though customs, will I have to take them out of the car? will people want to touch them or check them in any way. The reason I ask is that my german shepheard isnt very friendly, if you leave him alone he will leave you alone ( thats his attitude) hes not nasty and has never bitten any one, he is just a big coward and very scared of people. The other one will be fine , but the big boy could be a problem. Also whats the ruling over muzzels in france, we have never used them as again the big boy is scared of them, will we need them? I feel it might be kinder to leave him at home, am I being selfish wanting him to come on holiday with us or is one day of hardship in the car worth a couple of months with the people who love him and pamper to his every whim .?
  17. That was funny.............It reminded me of a boy at work who asked all the women he worked with if he could bye our used knickers for 5pounds a go and a new pair of knickers, it turned out he had found a web site which was selling them to i guess perverts????? i dont know. for 25pounds so he decided to start his own site, and he did very well, managed to hand in his notice within months and is still going strong.............needless to say i never gave him any of mine but plenty of girls did for a fiver plus new knickers everyday.
  18. hello Where do you fly your plane ?
