1. I was able to suspend/unsuspend my Orange internet until recently - was a bit awkward - had to write to Bordeaux 15 days before then give notice to suspend as well.

However from earlier this year it seems that you have to cancel your internet then go through the palaver of signing up again and getting a new account - I can't be bothered with that so keep my internet open whilst suspending my phone .

Now if only there was a reasonable priced dongle thingy available in France!

  2. We are flying from Stansted to Poitiers tomorrow for £4 each!!  No add-ons, this was bought when their sale for May was on, no hold luggage, don't care where I sit, I have debit cards for use with easyjet (£24 Edin - Stansted 0630 groan!).  At that price I will accept an outside loo!

I don't agree that ryanair should charge everyone a higher basic fare with the optionals included, why should i subsidise someone who has hold luggage and therefore costs the airline more to transit?  Maybe the unavoidables like the cancellation and admin fee should be included but at sale time these are often waived.

Ryanair, the best bus in Europe :)

  3. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to have to phone as using the link that Jane and Danny provided, I am informed that I am not compatible for the €21/month offer!

Sue's link only gave me the option on a minimum of €28.90.  I appreciate the options with FT/Orange for stopping/starting the phone and internet, but why once they give these options do they make it so difficult?

    here is the Orange service.

YOu can use your own compatible ADSL modem/router. like this maybe

You need to cancel in writing - it will stop 10 days after Orange receive the letter.

I am looking to restart the decouverte option after a year of being able to "suspend and unsuspend" the service.  I've now got my own router and modem having had to return my livebox.  Once I put in my phone nuumber to see what internet is available, the cheapest option I am offered is on at €28 per month.

If you look at the details of the €21 option, it appears that the offer ended on 13 April.  Any ideas how to get this service as I cannot do it on-line?

Thanks for the warning. I can, perhaps, understand the one-off extra charges for the unaware, but I do think that getting into the ongoing  monthly charges scenario is a little too much, even for such a forward looking company as Ryanair.

Except the  ongoing charges are NOT Ryanair

  6.
Ryanair charge the highest credit/debit card fees.

Easyjet's are considerably lower, which is worth bearing in mind when comparing fares, especially where a family is concerned.
So can you explain why Easyjet charge £5.50 but Ryanair charge £5.00 for credit cards fees as far as I can see?

  7. Do you already have your phone on the "residence secondaire" tarrif?  means a big saving in line rental over the year.

For internet, I have just signed up for the "decouverte internet" option (broadband) with FT/Orange.  €19.90/month but by writing to Bordeaux and changing the service to access libre (free dial-up) before and after each trip, you only pay when the broadband is on..  I still pay the €3.00/month for the livebox of course.

  8. I started a "decouverte internet" contract with FT/Orange in June.  They supplied a livebox at a monthly charge of €3.00.  When I write to Bordeaux to stop the internet I was advised by the FT helpline not to cancel my internet but to change the connection to acess libre - this is the free dial-up service that charges only when you use the internet so obviously no charges when the house is empty.  I continue to pay the €3.00 for the livebox but don't pay the €19.99 decouverte monthly fee.

I'll find out how well this works when I return next Sunday to France!  Just to emphasise, do not ask to cancel the internet, ask them to switch between decouverte and acess libre.  I hope your bank don't charge each time a direct debit is set up bubbles!

I start/stop the phone rental via Espace Client but there were problems around May time, worked okay in June/July for me.

  9. I've recently sorted out broadband for our maison secondaire.  I have the decouverte deal at €19.90 per month with a further €3 each month for the livebox. (Obviously you need your FT phone rental as well)

I have the option of disconnecting the livebox and taking it back to an orange shop at the end of each visit then pay nothing till I reverse the process on my return or simply changing my internet from broadband to dial up (access libre) when the house is empty.  No rental when the house is empty then apart from the €3 to retain the livebox.  I have selected the latter option.

The English speaking helpline advised me to ask for a change to acces libre rather than cancellation - this has to be done by letter to Bordeaux about 10 days before you want the broadband to start/end so you need to be organised.

I intend to phone them a few days after sending each letter to ensure that they have received it.  Seems strange that we can switch the phone service on/off via the internet but not the internet!!  C'est la vie!
