  1. From reading through the posts so far I think there are a couple of points that really hit home and work, don't just look at as 1 big problem split it up in to bit size bits and deal with the bits you can and put on the back burner to deal with at a later date the things which at that moment feel to much, there will come a time when you can and secondly counselling really works, the one time I had it (not husband related issues) it totally transformed my life and I felt back in control of my own destiny and somethings I realised weren't the problem and things that were the problem I was totally ignoring, but overall I found a new positive outlook on life so I would encourage you to go.

Norman, Norman, Norman you are so far off the mark it hardly is worth considering, except OP was very brave to use the forum as a sounding board, if she really want a lover and not face up to reality that's what she would have done but she didn't she wants to try and work things out, I really hope that someone who is feeling in a fragile position will not be put off posting your remarks were crass in the extreme.

  2. We had 2 Bathroom floors done in Jays method and used quite large stone tiles with no problems, when our Macon was putting the floor down he called it chicken feed as thats just what it looked like. It worked particularly well in the showeroom by raising the floor as you then had a level surface with the shower tray which was a really neat job as you then stepped down a tiny bit into it, a bit like a wet room with out all the hastle[:)], good point about if your putting a bath in and where the pressure points are, if I remember correctly he did reinforce bits of it, but he didn't want to lay a screed because of the weight of it, hope this is of some help

I'm currently waiting for yet another person to come and view the shop, already 20 mins late with no phone call, bl**dy A***n shop owners have no manners, I really don't mean to be racist but can they get themselves to a meeting on time this is at least the 5th to do it makes me b***dy mad, I had loads I wanted to do today but put everything on hold just in case.

Sunday, Never turned up, what has happened to manners?

  4. I've been in a similar situation when I worked in the States for 6 months and found there was a lot of pressure to have a "great time" when we did get together which didn't always happen, becasue we were both having a fairly rough time at work but we did work through it, but the situation ended up indirectly changing our jobs. Time moved on and we set a business together (24/7) and when it was tough, as a lot of newly self emloyed will understand we could easily have split up on many occasions but after 3 rough years things started to ease up and we're really happy to still be together. Only you can know what's making you unhappy, I know sometimes when you're in thick of it you can't even talk it through with your other half, but with all the doom and gloom, grey skies and general November misery its easy to be enveloped by all of it. Saying all that in January I'll be over in France renovating and OH will be running the UK business and we will be in a similar situation to you and it could carry on for a couple of years, but I keep thinking of the WW1 slogan which was "Stay calm and carry on"[:)]
  5. OH came up with an idea in relation to tax cuts that GB is angling for, the problem being as we don't really make much now all that would would happen would be that people would go out by some chinese made, clothes a far eastern TV etc and although that would help uk retail it doesn't really help the economy so his idea would be reduced VAT on certain areas such as restaurant meals or basiclly anything that emlpoyees a reasonable amount of people and that adds value or is british made, which with my not very good grade A level Economics seemed to make sense. I think the most difficult thing in getting people to spend again is the feeling of wealth, which unfortunate as it is, is related to a British person, how much their house is worth and how much equity is in it. With all the irresponsible lending that has taken place the pendulum has swung way to far the other way and we need to be in a position where sensible lending takes place to housebuyers and businesses to get things moving again.

  6. ErnieY , on Total France my tail wags and my antnea flash I seem to have had a malfunction here, Houston we have a problem!  A space helmet helps keep my head screwed on who knows where it would float of too, a world of fabrics and paint swatches and kitchen designs not central heating boilers and finding the best mortgage deal[:D]
  7. Eos, I couldn't agree more, things are what they, are which our out of our immediate control so if you want to get on with it or if you don't, don't. We sold in the Gers in July are in the process of buying in the Herault, the amount we had to reduce to sell also was reduced of the amount of the house we were buying so effectively we bought the same house if the market had been bouyant. There is a lot to be said for doing things when other aren't, builders are more available, you can strick a deal on furniture etc etc , generally people are more helpful as they haven't got a queue of people wanting their time. Ans also what price is putting your life on hold?

Please don't think I'm taking an "I'm all right Jack attitude" The credit crunch has hit us, we can't sell our buiness in th UK as banks are not lending, we have 3 sets of people who want it but can't raise the finances who could of done 18 months ago. But we have thought round the problem and come up with a solution, who knows if its right but we've made the decision so we have to  make it work. We  really do live by the ethos of my signiture. Whatever you decide to do Bonne Chance.

  8. Our last house we used a registered builder and had quite lengthy Devis for each job, but if we missed anything out or something unexpected arrose it always seemed more expensive than it should of been, the time to be pedantic is when the Devis is being written and get everything you could possibly want included, some jobs the materials and quality don't vary much in price but thingss like door and window furniture do so its worth specifing.
  9. Its worth checking the valve thing as the symptoms are exactly the same as we had so possibly it could be the same problem , we spent alot of time looking at the cooker and trying different things but as soon as the valve thing on the wall was changed it worked and had nothing to do with the safety device so it could in my humble opinion it could be worth investigating.
  10. We had  a similar problem with a new cooker, if it is from a large gas tank outside (not bottled) where it comes in at the back of the oven there should be a cream plastic thing covering a valve on this there should be the capacity, I didn't realise they come in different sizes, the smallest being about 1.2 kilos (gas per hour)  the next being around 4 and the largest being around 6 we changed ours to the middle size and it worked fine, the other thing to check is that it has the right type of nozzles on the burners as they differ for gas de ville or bottled
  11. Fireworks GRRRRRR I just don't see the need for them to sold to the general public , just have organised events. We live in the countryside where you think more people would have an understanding about animals and their dislike of loud bangs but , 4 nights of fireworks in a row, Jake the Jack Russell reallllllllllly hates them but Toby the Airedale was not so bad this year just went and sat on the stairs. We use the turn the telly up shut the curtains and put them in a room where its slightly more quite and they can't see the flashes, saying all that this has been the best year in the last 5.
  12. That seems really high we had and now are in the process of getting another one with them, a variable rate for 20 years but the rate is 4.95% which seems way different to what they have offered you, it might be worth checking again with them as it doesn't seem right, I've just remembered there is also an arrangement fee of 1500 Euro's. PM if you want me to give you the direct phone number to the lady who is helping us who has done a lot of work to get the right deal for us.
  13. Bugbear, that was exactly my thoughts, I'm just hoping that it won't last as long or end in a world war. The bankers are showing far to much self interest I don't know how they sleep at night with the disasters they are reeking.
  14. Yes please Cassis, could you email me them, the actual room size isn't an issue for us, most will be suites or junior suites to use Hotel speak[;-)] but as we have to create new bathrooms we don't want to make them too small so it sounds like 5m2 is the way to go but do they have to have a bath or would a large double shower do? I'm getting very confused by the differences between different tourist offices as you say some are a bit maverick changing whats served for breakfast isn't such a big deal but moving walls is[:P]

  15. Patf , theres an Indian restaurant in Auch, have you tried it? The decoration leaves much to be desired but the food was really tasty, if they know you're English they will cook it to an English palate rather than French their pilau rice and peswari (sp) nann some of the best I've tasted, I've never managed to taste authentic Indian food anywhere in Europe but am quite happy with an English version if its well cooked[:D]
  16. There is a product by Zinsser called 123, it causes great debate with me and my pals, I think its great and does block stains and works as a primer but others think its a bit c#'# as it sometimes peals off. I've had most success with it cover stains on a wood panelled ceiling and less success with it as a primer for painted furniture. The other thing to remember is that you are sealing what ever is causing the stain in, so if its damp it could creep to another area, The black sounds more like mildew which would be on the surface rather than coming through the wall which could be from lack of air circulating. I'm a bit of a firm believer in letting houses breath if you have solid stone walls.  Anyway it's easily available from Castorama or specialist paint shop, here's a link which decribes what it does
