  1. on the flight back from poitiers last night, about 10 rows at the front and the back were fenced off, leaving everyone crushed in the middle. I've been on a lot of flights in my time, and a lot of fairly empty ones and have never seen this before ... why would they do this?
  2. I am looking for a bi-lingual project manager to oversee some basic work on my house. It will involve engaging a local plumber / electrician / builder to install basic services and make the house habitable. I'm not changing or adding anything , so no planning permission will be required, but I will be having new windows installed and repairing the external rendering, so I may need permission to do that. The house is in a village with all facilities. It's not a huge job, but I will find it difficult to manage remotely, and my French is not at the level required! Project manager is maybe too grand a title .. someone who can speak the language and organise builders ...
  3. thanks all .. booked now! but I did  notice that the site has changed in the last few weeks since the last time I booked ... they automatically add on £9 insurance now, and you have to check it off, they charge for the bags, and when it is all over, they charge you £7 for using a credit card .. even though mine is a debit card .. AND they no longer have that nice link to hertz, which went straight in to the cheapest car - rental, atomatically suppying your flight details etc ... oh well, it's still cheap ..
  4. thanks for that, I thought it was probably the case .. this is so frustrating, as I'm trying to set up a meeting with my notaire, but it's about one email a day, he checks back with his boss, and the costs of the flights go up and up ...
  5. do these ever go down as the time approaches? eg a flight back on the 12th April is 29.99 at the moment, will it only go up from here, or might it come down?   thanks
  6. Oh, come on you guys.....cool it. I suggest that the person learns french then he/they will be saved from all this hassle! nope ... he still wants a 'certified translation', not my translation
  7. thank you for all your replies. I did not go through an agent, so I guess that this is why he requires a certified translator.  I have found Surrey Translation Bureau, not cheap, but they will certify it.
  8. not sure if this is the right place to post .. My Notaire expects me to get a 'proper' translation of this document, signed by the translator with his/her qualifications  .. any takers?
  9. I opened a money corp account with a view to using it as the 'middle man' to convert when sending money from UK account (First Direct) to France (CA Britline). the exchange rates today are 1.45 & 1.449 respectively, making a difference (by my calculation!) of £5 when transferring £5000 ... what's the point of them? am I missing something? thanks as always
  10. looking for somewhere to stay (a hotel would do!) near argenton chateau 17th and 18th march as i try to sort out my house purchase .. does anyone know of anywhere?   thanks
