How on earth did my move to the Aquitaine region get turned into getting a Bun in the oven LOL

Hi I know Porspoder very very well 4 kms from that dreadful oil tanker spill in 1978 the Amoco Cadiz. Its is a lovely spot around the coast here, but like said you are tied to weather 90 percent of the time. I cant also beilieve the price of properties in the Poitou charente!!

Hi Thanks for all your replies!! The winters arent really a problem. Its the fact that at 8pm in the summer we cant sit outside due to the wind.

[/quote] I have been visiting france regulary for 13 years and lived here ( not as an englishman in france ) but actually worked intergrated into the community for the last 8. I never said anything about the Bretons , and my wife being one is the truth. Alot people possible have never been to the area where we live hence the lack of English here. all the house look the same and even walking along the coast is a chore with the wind that constantly blows off the atlantic.

Hi John So you would go nearer Angouleme then. To be honest with you, we are fed up with the cold windy summers and the bland area. Ok the coastline is beautiful etc but my wife ( who is french ) has family in the south and has always been drawn to Aquitaine etc.

After living in Brittany for 8 years now..............we have made the decision to move to the Aquitaine region!! Is their any areas that we should avoid or is it a case of horses for courses?

Hi My Daughter is having her 10th birthday on the 19th and I have said to the better half that i would, be interested in doing a cake for her....................hmmmmm can anyone help me kindly in what i need to do in order to make a basic cake with a horse theme. I would need too know the ingrediants in french and be told as if I was a 3 year old. But I am willing to listen and be good. lol If anyone wants to help that would be great. Thanks alot Tim

As I've said before, if your material costs are fairly small compared to your overheads then it's worth buying them in and including them suitably marked up in your turnover. Totally agree VAL!!!!! The best tip to moving to france is to in,tergrate into the society by attending local clubs etc. It will take time but it can and will happen that you will be accepted. Anyway back to the AE route. I have already a friend that is going to be building soon and has asked me if I can work on his house ie carpenty/ placos/ doors windows . How would you play it? Would you get him to pay for the materials and bill him on a daily basis? Any ideas really appreciated!!

Yes life here is pretty dificult at times Not too sure if i would still be here if I hadnt married a french Girl. I need a lifestyle that will pay the bills and that can develop at my own time. I think 2012 /2013 is goig to be a tough time though for all!!

I have done carpentry/ ùmenuiserie for the last 8 years here and know that I have a good reputation with all the trades with the possibility of going part time with them. I have the opportunity to find work on a CDI contact again but want to be able to be my own boss again. I have recently been made redundant and have been offered help in form of the CSP. I was hoping to setup a Menuiserie/petit Charpente Business. Does anyone know if the CSP will help in the startup of my Auto entrepreneur business and if they will help with tools etc. Is their anything else I should know and understand that people can help me with. I have read alot of articles , but rather have first hand experience on the issue.

Just been worrying myself about crime in the aquitaine areas. Is this becoming a major problem or is this just a rare problem that exists everywhere.

The plastererers in france imho are way below the standards of UK plasterers. All the dryliners finish off with scrim tape and muck. Might be worthwhile selling you idea to the franch that its easier to paint and better finished a wall that has been plastered, than left taped .
