  1. Used them quite a bit and have been extremely satisfied with their service, their exchange rate is always VERY competitive and its a cheap transfer (1.80 Euros and no British or French bank charges). It takes a bit of time to get the money from the UK to your French account but as long as you plan it this isnt a problem. Hope this helps. Helen
  2. We have a couple of quad bikes and so far have only used them on our own land. However, we have seen others driving (with crash helmets) on the local roads and on the old tracks/lanes. Can anyone do this or do we need special licences/insurances, etc. The quads do not appear to have reg plates but. Anyone have any ideas or info as quite fancy exploring all our local tracks a bit further than the distances we reach on foot. Thanks Mike
  3. LAST EDITED ON 05-Mar-04 AT 09:13 PM (GMT) Can anyone help? We are considering allowing our youngest to have a pony - she has been asking for one for about 2 years now and we now have the space. BUT None of us have ever had any dealings with the equine species before(although quite experienced with most other animals) and need some sound advice: Louise (the child!) is just 6 years old this weekend and so far has had no riding lessons and is very precious to her mum and dad! (hoping to book riding lessons for her birthday present) What is the best age and size pony to get? What is the best - male (neutered) or female? How can you guarantee/tell a male has been neutered? How can you tell a healthy pony? (other than it just has that healthy glow?) If kept on grass the majority of the time what else should it eat? (Is it healthy to keep it on grass most of the time?) Stabling - does it have to be special or is a suitable outbuilding ok? Feet - how often should they be trimmed / shoed? In fact loads of questions which we dont know anybody to ask and when we check on line different sites dont answer all the questions and give different answers - FRUSTRATING! All you owners out there can you give some real-life answers and advice we would be really grateful. Helen . P.S. Thank goodness the boys are happy with their quad bike - they are easy!!
  4. Hi am trying to sort out some advice given to me since our barn fell down and am having great trouble trying to explain in my French - I really need to clarify things and on this occasion feel I need to admit defeat and speak to someone with at least some understanding of English. I am in department 16 near Confolens does anyone know of a lawyer (property/insurance related problem) not a notaire who can speak some English?? (See posting under French Property - Vice Cache / Assistance Juridique for more detail) Thought Id try two different types of posting for better success Thanks in advance Helen
  5. Hi Im a guitarist - unfortunately too far away for a get together (Northern Dept 16) unless we can work out a satellite link - but we'd have been stars if we'd lived closer I am sure!! Anyone near Confolens looking for some musical venting - I have the space and a wide musical influence - if I like it and I can master it - I play it! Have several guitars both acoustic and electric and a PA/recording system and a couple mics and my voice isnt too bad either. (Well ok this is Helen typing talking about Mike who wouldnt dream of admiting he played and sang - and if I say so he's not too bad either!) Come on you musicians come out from under your bushels and admit your skills!! Us lesser mortals are all jealous so make use of yours. Helen
  6. Hi Some advice to help ease our increasing stress! Unfortunately our move to France has been delayed for hopefully no more than 2 or 3 weeks but basically our kids will be starting school late (school has been advised). We already have their lists of things they need to bring (provided when we registered them prior to the end of term). My concern is that although I have bought as much as I can here in the UK and at very reasonable prices too there are some things I can't get here - specifically named makes of crayons for example and the slates/white boards which aren't used in UK schools - when we get there mid-end September will we still be able to buy them easily in France - what happens if we can't find them? Should I fall back on some new friends we have near to our new home and ask if they can get them for us now? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Helen
  7. Hi all Could you give me some advice My wife and i and our three kids {9,7 and 5} were due to move over before the end of the summer holidays, but have been delayed by a couple of weeks {hopefully no more!} Do you think we should send them back to there school here for this time or keep them off. They have all said there goodbyes etc and this is one aspect that bothers us.Im sure you all get the picture. Any opinions would be gratefully recieved, Thanks Mike
