"as fo an abri I think they look ugly"I agree, sometimes they can but I think mine looks great - take a look at my website showing it http://dordogne-garden.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

"je vous en prie" and "c'est moi" are usually used by those people who are employed to do the job that you have thanked them for - shop workers, doctors, etc.

Hi Jules,We bought our Stihl from a tiny workshop that looks like it's been there for 100 years in Brantome, opposite our Notaires office. He is extremely helpful and is an engineer as well, so much better than buying from one of those large Brico shops as he sharpens chains and repairs/services them on site.I need to take mine in for a service, so if you like, we could go over at the same time and I could show you where it is. Give us a call or email me,Susie (Lisle)

Just to add, we had a single LNB dish which we have changed to a QUAD LNB, yes that's four (don't ask!). We have no problems receiving a nearly full signal on all four receivers at the same time. The only problems we get is in very heavy rain when the picture breaks up but that would be the same whether it was 1 or 4 LNBs anyway. I think we bought the quead LNB on eBay.

I'm in the Dordogne and I swam last night at 10pm under the abri whilst it was raining outside! The water temperature? 30 degrees - and the Pompe a Chaleur hasn't been used yet, infact in August we had to leave the abri open to get the temperature DOWN!I would thoroughly recommend getting an abri. I'm hoping to swim all year round (I'm a keen swimmer and need the excercise for back problems) but I may have to see how cold January/February is.
what is an abri? Also any chance of price and are they any good for above ground pools. thanks
An abri is a greenhouse type cover over the pool. They can be very low (1.7m high from the plage/margelles, not needing planning permission) but swimmable under, mid height or full height conservatory style. Have never seen one for an above ground pool, not sure if that's possible. -
Zidane - there is nothing of him to throw away! After that Arthur of laissez ou prendre fame - I thought he was awful at first but he's grown om me!
oooh yees, I quite like him too. -
keeping the swimming pool warm? - buy an abri and/or a pool heater. My pool is still 30 and the pump a chaleur hasn't come on yet Sorry don't mean to gloat but it is fantastic, last year we had closed down our old pool by now as the sun isn't hot enough to heat the water now and the water temperature starts to drop considerably.
Thats interesting, is a a humid hot followed by thunder storms ? or a dry hot! I don't expect to find 25c in the winter, just no snow ,no endless drizzle/fog etc lasting for 6 months or so I expect...
... it was 24 degrees on Christmas eve in the Dordogne the first year we were here! -
"I don't want my grandchildren to be brought up in a world where they are taught that there is a third way. " I am confused by MOP's statement. If straights have a first way, gays persumably have a s...
That's what I thought initially, but maybe the third way is being single -
To add to the above reply, it is always best to bring meat to room temperature before cooking, cooking straight from the fridge can make it tough.

I'm awaiting my second to drop into my postbox any day. I was blinded by an extremely bright flash the other day in a ridiculous 30k zone. I'm assuming it was a mobile/handheld speedgun Sorry, I can't advise you re the UK licence as I have a French one, but deductions of points are done automatically in the central computer.

Just as well the weather is looking good today then ! -
There's a Cricket Club (apparently) in the Charente. Siddalls also do an annual tournament at Bordeaux.

I wonder what percentage of expats (or French nationals come to that) have 'self-declared' and how stringent the government is at following up those who don't send in a declaration. -
I think you only upset one narrow-minded person, it was funny."Peace and gay dust to you all xxxx" - aw, thanks
not wishing to add fuel to the fire but I think all he was doing was quoting the comedy show "little britain" and not making a bold statement. Just seeing both sides thats all.
That is what I thought too and it gave me and my son a giggle this morning -
This may sound cruel but sorry, I have to get this off my chest - the guy needs to buy a spellchecker or go back to school. The odd mistake is understandable but I find posts like this incredible - have standards in schools really fallen so low?

Incroyable !

Someone (vraititti) correct me if I'm wrong, but definately no. It would be spelled Soeuret (as in sister) if that was the pronounciation. An 'i' is usually pronounced 'e'.
