  1. Find this subject so intriguing the bravery of those people unbelievable, ive read numerous books on the subject and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my latest purchase " in search of the maquis" by H R Kedward. We,ve a house near Carcassonne which we use regularly, so if anyone has any suggestions of places to visit within realistic driving distances in connection with this subject i would be very grateful.

  2. Fully understand  your reactions to poor service, this type of topic has been dicussed many times on this forun bit like marmite you either love it or hate it, fraid i,m in a needs must situation, although in defence of any carrier how do you deal with drunken passengers.......breathalised at point of departure what a shambles that would be!!
  3. Decided this year to pay my "Taxes Fonciers* on line, after steering myself through the online form, managed to complete the payment and received an e-mail to confirm payment, after giving myself a pat on the back noticed the e-mail had an attachment " Adhesion au Telereglemen" Can anyone explain this form, am i right in saying i need to fill this in and send to my bank to authorise payment ,and if so can i do it electronicly.

    Thanks for any replies Steve

  4. Thankyou for your responses ,and now understand the annual charge is for my " serenite account." I use this account on line to pay utility bills, insurance, and council tax,s only, so havn,t applied for a bank card to support it.So the question i ask is this an upgraded account or is there a CA account which would serve my purposes without a charge? As suggested i could shop around and have noticed a HSBC branch in Carcassonne but have been fairly happy with the service i,ve received from CA
  5. I,ve just recieved a end of year statement from CA with what appears to be charges of 67,20 euro for "Cotisation CSCA serenite annuel"is this charge for card insurance or for the annual running of our account ?. Incidently we were offered  bank cards  last year and went into our local CA branch and had them cut them up and explained we didn,t ask or require them, we,re not over in France for another 5 weeks and would like to have an understanding of this charge before going back to the bank, any comments apreciated.....shoop
  6. Thanks for your advice Simon, went on-line and followed your instructions, couldn,t make a transfer as its only available 8am-3-30pm, but did read the FAQ,s regarding costs which read " if your payment is under £2000 and in local currency to a Worldplay country or in Euros to a Eurozone country the charge is £9, all other payments made by sole traders will be £17, so i,ll give my branch a ring for further details.......thanks for your help Shoop
  7. Ok Simon have i got it right, i usually top up my CA account by using the cash machines in France and physically paying euros in to avoid paying transfer charges, can i now on-line transfer money from my HSBC sterling account direct to my CA euro account without occuring charges at either end, using SEPA credit transfer?

  8. So the great RA debate rolls on, having used them fequently for the last six years i like many other have only praise, my gripes are the passengers travelling alone who persistantly hog  middle seats, and when boarding grab the first seats available insted of moving to the middle of the plane with the intent of not only getting on first but also getting off first. So like others i have little sympathy with fellow travellers who reach the departure gate knowing the rules but ignoring them.
  9. After reading the book "love and war in the pyrenees" i,m considering on my next trip to Carcassonne a visit to memorial at the camp at Rivesaltes, my question is is it worth the trip, can you get access to the camp and where is it in relationship to the airport ,only on my last visit to Rivesaltes on the "Tourist Train" i saw no mention of the camp or directions, thanks in advance for any responses......Steve
  10. I,ve recieved two e-mails in French from i assume different hosts, one from [email protected] asking for my details or they will suspend my card? I only use UK cards in France which are verified by visa but only for use over the internet. The second e-mail was from Service@LaBanquePostale quoting a ref number and asking for account conformation, considering the nature of this mail and i bank on-line with Credit Agricole i believe it could be a scam the question i,m asking has anyone else had such mail................. Thanks for any responses Steve
  11. Planning a trip on the little yellow train on my next visit(july 13th-20th) picked up a flyer that maps the route but doesn,t give a timetable, understand you can,t buy tickets on line, looking for any tips on what time to arrive, stop off points etc anything really that would be of help...........................thanks for any responses
  12. Looking to join mitred corners of MDF skirting board, i,m advised "Mitremate" is used in the UK to good effect it,s apparantly a super glue with an activator, due to travelling with only hand luggage on my next trip i,m unable to purchase it in the UK. Is there an equivilent in France, and if so where is it available, and what is it called? Many thanks for any responses.....
  13. I,m flying into Carcassonne friday 7th May till monday 10th May to hopefully do some work on my house in Arzens. 14. We have a polished stone/ mottled marble lookalike stairway in our holiday home we,re looking for ideas on how to clean it as it appears to have ground in dirt which ordinary cleaning materials won,t touch. Would prefer to buy the product in France as our next couple of visits will be hand luggage only and obviously carrying liquids is a no-no......thanks for any suggestions shoop
