Thanks for saying your acknowledgement Tony, I'm sure I speak for Baz too.

I'm going out on a limb here, but trying this will cost you nothing.
Change your homepage to 'use blank' in the tools/internet options menu, close IE7 and then restart your computer and open IE7 again.
Change your homepage back to BBC, check that it's set to 'automatically check' for newer versions, and then (probably unecessary) restart again.
See if that makes a difference. Do note that going back to a previously loaded tab isn't the same as a new visit.
Good luck,
Steve

Installing IE7 may have modified some settings made when you installed your Neuf package.
This is hopefully the simplest solution:
Try starting Outlook Express from the start menu and see if you recognise this as the e-mail program that you were using before the upgrade. If so check the inbox to see your old messages.

Check out Virgin PAYG recharges and validity, Nick, they're on the Orange network.
Funny, but when I check my nrj credit bought prior to Oct, it expires end December, not next March........anyone else checked?

Mine doesn't behave like that, it sounds more like the zoom action than just a changed text size. Is the zoom level set at 100% on the status bar at the bottom right?

If you have a modern French TV that works with both PAL and SECAM formats, you can watch UK recorded tapes played on either a French PAL/SECAM VCR or a UK PAL only VCR. The Pal only VCR will not record French television programmes properly as they are broadcast in SECAM format.
French and other region 2 DVDs play in the PAL format.

When you changed to Virgin did you have to pay to have your phone unlocked?
Our experience with one Orange PAYG phone and one year and new two year Universal Mobile contract phones was that they weren't locked. If you bought your mobile in France and have had it for more than six months your provider is obliged to give you the désimlockage code free of charge.
Doubtless there are other ways, but if you want to know if your phone is locked borrow someone else's sim card and put it in your phone to see if it works or not.
At the risk of appearing like a mouthpiece for Mr Branson, when we went to the UK at half term we bought three UK Virgin sim cards at Argos, normally £10 but reduced to £5, each with £5 of calls included. We thought that was a pretty good deal.

I've just changed our occasional use mobiles to Virgin France. Sim cards are 15€ including 5€ of calls, and recharges are 10€ & upwards and last 3 months (ie 3.33€/month). Calls are reasonable for PAYG and phone+sim deals are OK too. www.virginmobile.fr
Hope this helps,

His name may be Nicolas Paul Stéphane Sárközy de Nagy-Bócsa, but he was born in Paris, and he is French.
I don't know anyone who likes him, but they dislike him because of his policies, not his ancestry.
I didn't say they disliked him (because he was seen as foreign), I was repeating what I had read and found that my French aquaintances had the same view. I sounded them out because I thought that the writer who was British, was peceptive regarding ordinary French peoples' train of thought, that they often start with the pejoritive peculiarity when describing someone. Likewise, I think that SR is seen as completely French regardless of being born in Senegal. Perhaps it's the parents that set the scene, or more than likely, the father.
Personally, I hope he or someone from his party gets in, the socialists here scare me silly.

"I think the winner will be the Hungarian"
18 months or so ago I read that the French wouldn't elect a foreigner as president. For a few days I asked all the locals that I came across what they thought of him, and almost to a man/woman their first words were "he's not French".

"So about as crap for me as the orange sim card I switched from."
Me too.
Ian, do you know off-hand whether any of the 7€ contracts offer carry-forward of unused minutes? I believe Debitel have a PAYG card offer that works out at 7€ pm too.

If you go to the departments you are interested in and then click the link to : MON DÉPARTEMENT, Caractéristiques climatiques, you can compare average annual rainfall figures for a few départments. Best I can do.Steve

Our pre-October 19th credit will last seven months so (providing it's under about 50€) that will still be equal to other deals for infrequent users, and at the same time mean that NRJ are getting as little return on their lines as possible [:)].
NRJ have removed references to 'sans durée de validité' on their website, but haven't mentioned their new terms either. They may still be deciding.....There is a fair bit of anger building on the French mobile phone forums, who have promoted NRJ to infrequent users heavily since last May and sooner or later it will get into the press too. Crédit Mutuel have promoted them and it's clear that many French youngsters have recommended them to older relatives. Whilst I don't think such comment will change NRJ's direction, which is more than likely due to an over-optimistic business plan, it may just serve to influence them regarding the validity of the recharges if they haven't made up their mind already.
You can sign a petition to NRJ here:
Here are some links to discussions, the first one is to the 'swindles' website, the others have similar views:

Sorry chaps, didn't warn you that I was buying a NRJ card on Thursday. My friends pay me to tell them which investments I am going to make.
Where are Anne Robinson and Ester when you need them?

"Does your emailer have an option to leave messages over a certain size on the server, so you can review the subject line to see whether you want to download it or kill it straightaway?"
Yes it does, I've just upgraded to Outlook XP and had assumed that the default maximum message size was 100KB like the older version, however it's 5MB. It's a bit tucked away, but there's an option to download message descriptions only on messages over a selected size, so I've set it now.
"Have you pointed out to the sender what they are doing and how irresponsible it is. What response did you get from them"
Yes I have, but no response yet. He may not have liked what I said.

Any of you received a spam with 1.7 megabytes of attachments from a Tony Preston? 15 minutes+ download time on a dial up connection, what a nerve!
In my opinion such a lazy and thoughtless e-mailshot for his property magazine is indicative of a similarly produced publication and I urge you not to give him any encouragement to repeat the practise.

Seems like I was giving egg-sucking lessons [:)]
In my experience with (probably) all the popular ISPs in the UK, it was only NTL and Tesco that blocked my messages from smtp.wanadoo.fr. We know that a quick response to enquiries is a major contribution to securing a booking and as you say Paolo, the delay could cost that. Just as annoying is the enquirer with an incorrect reply address in his account, and who's (unanswered as far has he/she is concerned) messages get more and more irate! Sometimes you can guess the error, but often not.
Steve
-
You should be able to receive, but not send except with the ISP account that you're connected to. I don't know if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here, but beside the Send button you'll see that you can select the account that you want to use.

That's right, the last fix worked for me for 12 months or more, Paolo, and I asked again because I hadn't backed up or made a note of the particular setting.
In my opinion just a couple of UK ISPs are at fault for blocking mail sent from the biggest French service provider to their customers, waiting five days before notifying the sender. It would be laughable if it didn't have the potential to cost me money.Steve
-
Thanks for that, it's different to the old fix, but works fine. I'll keep a link to it this time!

I'm interested in your recommendations, do the heaters you are discussing have flues? If not do they create condensation?
