  1. Hi

We have our construction permit, and we have submitted the form which says when we are going to commence the works.

Does anyone know if we need to post a sign or something similar outside our property to say that works are in progress.  Seem to recall our architect mentioned some such thing, but he seems to be away on holiday or similar at moment?

    thanks

  2. thanks michael

fosse was all checked and passed and installed 2005 so i am sure you are correct  in saying everything can go in.  unfortunately it was done in our absence so we dont have "instructions (that's pre-supposing such things come with a fosse!!).

I always check toilet paper for compatability but have just checked by (err top budget !!) washing powder and it doesnt seem to say anything.   Sorry to be naive but  do i check everything, eg shampoo, conditioner, soap, washing powder ??

    thanks

  3. Hi

This is probably a really daft question so  i shall apologise in advance.

We have two septic tanks newly  installed in our property - the waste from sink (as there was no shower etc here) just goes outside the property.   hmmm nice.

anyway since we are really terribly sophisticated people we have now installed a shower AND a washing machine!    The question i have is, is there any issue with waste water from these (or more accurately the products used in both events) going into a fosse, or would a soakaway be the solution.   we are very rural by the way !

    any responses would be appreciated

  4. sounds like the stuff - almost been tempted myself when fridge empty and no alcohol left (or perhaps after too much alcohol!)

will write name down and see if it appears in local supermarket soon .....   even in uk its pretty expensive though so i might try to keep force-feeding him the french one with veggies which he now eats if he is absolutely starving !!

  5. thanks everyone - margaret - followed up on your cat food suggestion and a miracle has occurred - after 2 years of refusing every single food except the exceptionally expensive tastes as good as it looks he is now - grudgingly i must admit - chomping down french cat food with vegetables in it !!  mind you  he  has a penchant for olives as well come to think of it, so perhaps he is a secret veggie at heart !!
  6. Hi

dont know if someone out there knows more about cats than I - or their behaviour.

arrived in France around a month ago - kept cat in with litter tray for a couple of days, then two weeks out with him on harness (which he took to surprisingly well!).

Now he  has been out  on his own for two weeks.   In UK he always went out at night.   After about three weeks we let him stay out one night and next morning he arrived back looking like death !! Squealed, moaned, refused to move from bed - mustered up best french to rush him to vet and discovered multiple gashes, cuts - probably bruising etc as he screamed whenever touched !   Needless to say now he stays in at night (again which he  has adapted to very well for now).

However, since incident above, and we have no  idea what happened - fight, fall - attacked by something - dont know, whenever he wants to go to  the toilet he comes in the house wailing like a banshee !!   then heads for his litter tray - however if you then say 'come on' and go outside he happily trots outside and will  go to the loo - but only  if you are there next to  him watching (trust me not a nice sight if you are just about  to have dinner!).

Any thoughts anyone ?   Either as to what might have attacked him (shot  in the darki know) or as to where to go to stop him doing this.   I dont think he really wants to use tray but is clearly scared witless of something out there (beginning to wonder what IS out there myself!!! - beast of bodmin - or french equivalent??!!!)

on second point (yes yes he is spoilt rotten - i know what you are all thinking) we are now nearly out  of 'felix tastes as good as it looks' and as per  uk - he simply refuses to eat anything else.   tried every single brand in uk - he happily moans and carries on without eating for two days or so, after which  i cant stand the noise and give up.   However, can't find the stuff here - almost at crisis point now - needless to say have tried alternatives here - same as above.    Does anyone know where to buy the stuff before he becomes thin and paranoid instead of just paranoid.   i live near st yrieix la perche in limousin in case anyone else lives around who buys it?

    thanks

  7. have had a search but aplogies if missed previous links.

does anyone know what this is called in france pls

and also for 'dot and dab' (by the way i am doing  this message on behalf of my partner  so i havent a clue what i am talking about so dont laugh too much at spellos!) - i understand this to be putting blobs of adhesive onto  plaster board type  stuff and heaving  it against  the wall.   Well its the adhesive  he wants to know name of if anyone knows!!

    many thanks

  8. Moving to france in about a week but whilst sorting out the cat's stuff my vet mentioned that heartworm was a problem in some parts of France.

Anyone know what this  is?   how to protect against? and whether a problem  in limousin area?

    thanks for any responses.

  9. Assume you have resolved this now but if not i have recently found myself in similar situation.

Get stroppy is my advice.   After first refusal from Direct Line to send proof of no claims, I then requested that the obnoxious  individual  transfer me to customer services....   3 minutes later agreement to send letter stating no claims,  which arrived 3 days later...   always worth pushing it a bit!

  10. that was of interest (in a kind of nerdy way which I hate to admit !)

OK I will be honest I wasnt interested at all but the purpose was information gathering for my partner, so in that respect thanks all it achieved its objective.

From a personal point of view ................ well it doesnt light my fire but I am seriously not being rude or facscetious (spelling ? - wine again) but I do thank you - other half was fascinated - maybe its  a bloke thing!

  11. I would suggest as a fall-back position you do what we did, ie ensure that you book in your cats on a day when you know that the vets are going to be open for a few days after (eg not on a Friday night!) and as early as possible in morning (that is presupposing there is an afternoon or evening surgery), so that you can take them back if required.

As I said earlier, strangely my cat didn't have a reaction to the rabies vaccine, which I was really expecting, but if you are concerned, from a practical point of view I would arrange that the vaccines are given as above, so that you can drag them back to surgery on same day if required.

Dont know if this helps at all but it is something I have learned from my own (rather pathetic!) cats reaction to flu jab.

Sure it will be find though so dont sweat on it too much (fingers crossed for you)

  12. Thanks for response.

Hopefully I can contribute at some point to the system.

Bureaucracy I think I can deal with - it cant be any worse than having to be nice to the Dell call-centre man (Dehli I believe from his accent and his name) who rings me twice a night because of that spurious enquiry I made the mistake of making a few weeks ago about a new computer ...    I cant help but get visions that his family are starving because I will not be badgered into a new computer!

I truly believe that if I can continue to be pleasant to this man (and continue to tell him that I wont buy his computer) then I can deal with such bureaucracy (spelling ?  - had some wine now!)

Sincerely appreciate everyone's responses even though I tend to be flippant by nature !

  13. Thanks

Main concern is getting some kind of health cover for both of us, not the money - thats not to say that we are rolling in it - far from it (bang goes our fags and booze money though - heh heh - mind you there wasnt much in budget for that to start with).

Understand what you are saying ref system - dont especially want free benefits, dont need them right now.   Prefer people (whatever nationality or creed they may be) who need them get them.     Might need them one day though so never say never.

Hopefully by time we run out of money I will have managed to scrabble together some earnings.    Anyone need an English employment law specialist ?    ha ha only kidding - not advertising - dont event have a web site !

Will - since I have seen you on here so often, and you at least on paper look like you know what you are talking about (thats a compliment by the way), in all seriousness, if this is going to be a big problem we would probably have to not make the move.     Whats your view?

For info both strapping healthy 40 ish somethings with (to all extents and purposes) plenty of life in us at the moment and no health probs ..?

  14. Not sure if you will pick this up as this is a few days late - not terribly au fait with how the site works yet !

What is the situation if you are not earning at all?

Could you opt to pay into the CPAM say 8% of the minimum earnings - if you understand what i mean?   Try again - could they 'assume' you are earning the minimum eg 6956 or whatever it is, and charge you 8% of that?

Sounds like my partner will be in a similar situation - I have applied for E106 and assume will get it as I have worked for same company for many years and paid full contributions - thus my understanding is that even though I won't be earning for a couple of years (although I would like to !  but dont want to assume something will come up) I will be covered for the 65-70% roughly and top up with private medical cover.

My partner however is in similar situation to person above, will definitely not be eligible for E106 thus how could we arrange to pay for him and how much rougly might it come to ?

Or am I losing it ?
