  1. Dear Tom and Lou Did you have any luck in finding work or setting up on your own? I'm only asking because I'm looking for a new kitchen when we move to Var in September and if you were a) either of the above b) in my area, I'd be interested in talking to you further. Thanks Roseanne
  2. I am finally moving to Plan de la Tour in September and will be needing a new kitchen. Can anyone recommend a good kitchen place Ie supply and fit or a good fitter in the area. I've read from other threads that Lapeyre is good, so will investigate further and have read mixed reviews on Hygena. Any further comments? Thanks   REM
  3. E109 and CV (couldn't understand at first why anyone in France would find my job history of interest!) is another new thing I'm now to get my head round! We have bought a house and I will be moving to France full time in September, but until I can get my business up and running my husband will commute on a weekly basis, as he owns his own company in the UK. I have been working full time since (forever) so would be entitled to an E109, but we are in the first instance not moving lock stock and barrel until I know that I can make this new venture work. At that point my husband would move over full time. So my question is should I apply for an E109 now, or wait until this time next year when I know that we will both be in France full time. As having asthma and various other ailments, I am entitled to free prescriptions in the UK and will be returning on a 3 monthly basis, so in the short term was planning on staying registered with my doctor in the UK and getting prescriptions when I am in the UK. My husband will stay registered with a doctor here for the time being as he'll be in the UK three days a week. My other niggling worry is if I need to visit a doctor whilst in France, would I have to go as a private patient, if I did not have an E109. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks Roseanne
  4. Hi Does anybody know of any squash clubs in the St Tropez area
  5. Apologies to all if this has been previously covered, but can't find it anywhere. We are planning on moving permanently to Var later this year. We have a clio which we bought new in March this year and are wondering how long we can drive around on UK plates before having to reregister the car for french plates. Because once we'd done that we'd have to sell it in France and think it would be more difficult to sell a right hand drive car in France. Rather than selling it back in the UK. Also, can anyone point me in the direction of buying in advance a ticket for using the tolls, is there a website for purchasing season tickets or something similar, as we'd be travelling back and forwards to Nice airport on a regular basis. Thanks Roseanne
  6. Thanks for your reply and for the pointer re toilet roll, you wouldn't have a 'brand name', sounds sad I know, but in advance of coming to France next weekend I am compiling a folder of info for guests renting our house and want to supply as much info as possible, so brand names would help enormously. Having become a toilet roll spotter in my local Waitrose(!!!), I've found a toilet paper which is suitable for use in septic tanks, so only buy that. Your comment re the smell of the electricity, I had thought this may be the situation, so will have to investigate with EDF.   Thanks
  7. Along the same lines can anyone give me the name of 1 - toilet paper and 2 washing powder/fabric softener which I can use which won't harm the fosse. I am renting our house out this summer and want to leave info for the guests on which toilet paper etc to buy. It's getting a bit silly bringing loads of toilet roll, washing powder etc every time we visit and we won't be able to bring enough for the rest of our lives, when we move out permanently next year. Also, could anyone shed some light on the siting of our septic tank, we were given the plans of the house, which was built 13 years ago and we've worked out where the septic tank is. But it's situated under the grass and there's no access hatch. Does this mean that our septic tank doesn't need draining, or do we have to dig up the grass every few years? Lastly, our house was only ever used as a holiday home by the previous owners, so the fosse hasn't ever been used full time. When we were at the house last month with family we used Espartyl as directed and the day after that we then started to smell a funny smell (sulphery/stagnant water) from the utility room - which is next door to the toilet where I put down the Espartyl. We are not sure if this smell is coming from the underfloor pipework leading from the toilet to the fosse - although the floor is tiled and sealed. Or if it could be coming from the main electricity in point in the utility room, because although I know it sounds odd that electricity could smell! the smell is emanating from the area where the electricity point is. Any suggestions/pointers would be gratefully received.  Thanks REM
  8. I am planning to work freelance either from home or in a studio artworking ie desktop publishing, when I move to France. Does anyone know if the system is similar to the UK for employing freelance artworkers, or could anyone recommend any recruitment/temp agencies which specialise in this area. Thanks Ro
