Sorry cannot help you with the last episode.
You mentioned Nigel standing for mayor, this will not happen. His Indian resturant has closed due to French administration charges and lack of custom and he has been forced to sell his and Nippi house to pay off debts. The next proposed adventure is openiong a B&B.....we will have to see what transpires.

>Have a weird problem - over

>ITV and all BEEB channels,
Penny,
Freezing pictures are almost always due to a poor signal, this can be more noticeable in bad weather. Two suggestions to cure this problem, firstly check that the dish is properly alighned, even a cm out can be too much. If you do not have a meter to check this, it may be worth getting a professional installer in. Secondly,if this fails increasing your dish size should cure the freezing.
ITV and Beeb channels are generally effected first, which will explain why you continue to receive channels 4 & 5. Hope this helps to solve the problem.

Jean-Paul,
I thought it might me appropiate to let you know that you can reduce the above website page link to :
http://makeashorterlink.com/?F2DF22F38 Which will then automatically direct you to the correct site
This can be achieved by using "Make a shorter link" site, to be found at http://makeashorterlink.com/index.php
Hope this is a help to all for future use.

Prices of Property in Aude have dramatically increased in the last couple of years and you may be hard pressed to find any thing with a garden and 3 bedrooms in your price range that doesn't require a fair amount of renovation. Even Village properties with no garden in a good state of order are likely to have prices in excess 120,000.
But it is cetainly worth going and having a look as you may just find an ideally priced property. That's what I did 15 years ago and I did find a bargain and made an offer the day it went onto the market. Good house hunting.

Mazda is a good choice, their reliability is excellent. There are many dealerships throughout France. If you go to this site you will able to see the nearest dealership to your location.

I received today a letter and brochure automatically enrolling me into their new Frequent Traveller scheme. This has now taken over from their previous Voyager scheme. My first impression is dismay compared with the reductions I used to enjoy on the Short sea crossings. Previously one could redeem their points from any crossing even if it was already discounted. Basically the new plan gives discounts of upto 30% on the Calais crossings and upto 45% of on the Western routes. But the catch appears to be that discounts now only apply to the standard brochure fares.
Which leads me to think that effectively the loyal clients are losing out on previouly reasonable good discounts. I hope I have not lost the plot and this is not the start of fares increasing even more.

Why not fly Ryanair to Nimes it is only 30 mins drive from Montpellier and the morning flight arrives at 09.50 from 29 April and return arrives back at Stansted at 11.15. They also have a late afternoon flights as well, so the frequency is better than to Montpellier. Alternatively BA has a daily flight out of Gatwick to Montpellier and good deals are sometimes available.

Sorry to hear your problem, but because of the seriousness of the situation maybe your first port of call would be to discuss the matter with the Notaire conducting the sale. If this is unsatisfactory then take legal advice from either an Advocat in France or a French Advocat in the UK.
I would not rely on opinions other than a legally trained professional.

It is wonderful to see some proposed genuine competition on the short sea crossings, but I wonder for how long the 25 single fare will be viable. The other concern which needs answering is in event of the the non operation of a crossing who is the reciprocal arrangement with and from which French port. I just wonder if in the high season they need to change operators how will they be able to arrange a crossing with another operator for 25.
I feel, only if and when another craft is introduced by Speedferries will they really be taken seriously by the cartel. But good luck to their proposed services, it has been a long time coming.

A very interesting topic, but here we go again it is been "HIGHJACKED" by members discussing how to print the symbols. No wonder people get frustrated with using "search" and quite rightly have to repeat subjects to find the answers.
Surely, it is not too much to ask if you have a different question to the subject being discussed to open a new topic. It will benefit everyone in the long term and just to remind you of the sensible rules posted only 2 days ago by Forum Admin. lets play by the game.

Playing the money markets often leads to burnt fingers. Why not transfer half your funds now this is probably the best way to hedge your bets. If you look at the trend over the last 12 months a downward movement of the Euro may be about to happen.

Your remote control may have wrong information in its memory, therefore reseting will remove all its memory. This can be done as follows.
To perform a RESET press TV and then hold SELECT and RED BUTTON together for around two seconds until the red light blinks twice. Now press 999 red light blinks once for a long time and then twice quickly.
This changes the TV model code back to default 038, clears the macro and deletes any Key Magic changes that you have made.
You can then enter the correct code for your TV set and then set the turn-on channel to the one you want.
If you do not know the codes for your TV look here at the list.

I hope this may solve your problem, it has certainly worked for me in tha past.

Tim,
I think your plea is reasonable as I believe generally the people who want to display pictures, gifs, there own websites or images with signatures do it purely to emphasis their posting. They possibly have not considered the impact of slowing down the loading and effecting anyone who has limited bandwidth.
However, I believe there is a compromise which will not effect the previously mentioned points, which is to simply include a link by their signature giving everyone the choice whether to view or not.

Frank,
I fully endorse your comments regarding on the Forum set up. I have mentioned this previously on a number of occassions, but it seems to falls on deaf ears. Unfortunately, there are many users of the site that do not want to see change and I suppose with the limited resources of LF the changes that have been promised are not forthcoming.
The wealth of infomation here is quite incredible, but it is often lost in the archives. The search facility is so poor and pathetically slow that the repetetive nature of so many of the questions is understandable.
If only this excellent Forum could be bought upto 21 century standards, what additional pleasure and ease of use to both old and new members it would become.
It would be very interesting to hear from Forum Administrator if and what are the future intentions of LF to improve this site.
I hope other members will on this occassion support your views Frank and lets hope everyone will be positive this time.

I know I have raised this point before and am fully aware of the pros and cons. The ability of being able to respond in a non chronological order is IMO causing repetitive replies and meaningless red herrings. I believe this is simply being caused because the contributors are not reading the responses in numerical order. I know of no other sucessful Forum operating in this formate and for anyone using the search facility it has now become a minefield. With years of valuable information and guidence being lost, because of the difficulties of trying to source it, seems a complete waste of time and effort.
I have been responding here from first days of the LF forum, but in recent weeks am getting more frustrated that many of my responses and others are being repeated by someone else, simply because they have not read the earlier replies in chronological order and their intended reply may well be at the bottom of the page. Whilst I enjoy helping other members, I certainly do not want to waste my time in future imparting information and advice if this unnecessary practice continues.
This point has been raised many times previously to the Forum Administrator but no action has been forthcoming. So why cannot we all consider as from today to correct this situation, by simply always responding to the last entry? I know it would make it so much easier to follow the topics and at the same time still have plenty of fun with our comments.

Gay,
What a useful site with so many companies now using non geographical numbers so they make a profit on your call. As I have free calls to all 01 or 02 numbers this will be invaluable and hopefully reduce my telephone bill even more.

Maybe Mazan response on a similar thread is your answer
"Anyone having problems with auto-logins and unread messages on this forum may need to delete the livingfrance.com cookies on the hard drive. I have described how to do this several times so an archive search should find it."

Adriana,
Until a few days ago the ad you refer to was plainly visible, then I noticed only a broken link image was visble. I have just logged on and the ad is now plainly visible again. Perhaps this is the continuing serve saga.

Hamish,
By dialing an 0870 number you are making a non geographical national call which the Monday to Friday daytime charged by BT is at 7p per minute, so if your call to France is then costed at 1p per minute, I suspect the total cost will be 8pence per minute as you will still be connected via 0870.
Using Onetel UK the cost is only 4p per minute, perhaps you could confirm whether my conclusions are wrong.

The has dropped to its lowest level against the Euro and as at 17.30 UK time the bank rate was 1.4958. The concerns must know be that falling below the 1.50 level is it going to go into free fall. The pending Iraq situation and low UK interest rates may not bode well at the present. Although this is good news for sellers of French Property but for the buyers it could become expensive. For anyone trying to complete sales in France currently or in the near future a discussion with your financial advisers might be prudent and forward purchase of currency may be a possible consideration at least to fix a known exchange rate.
I would like to think that when Iraq is sorted, that a strong recovery in world stock markets may be seen and then the pound gaining strengh against the euro could well take place.
These are only my personal views, but I hope this cautionary thread may be of assistance.

Mike,
This same question was raised last November and I think a response by Martin&Chris may be what you are looking for:

Pat,
Why not send a Private Message to Eleanor (Forum Administrator) telling her what you want to change and I think she will be able to sort it out.
Baz -
Angie,
Yes, I have the same problems as you, exactly the same as before. I have to assume that the site was down for other reasons as I am sure they would have tested it before reinstalling. Hopefully Eleanor will give us an update.
