Pommier - interestingly, Sainsburys did the same in the UK...

I will always remember this conversation that I overheard a couple of days before Christmas in a supermarket in Norwich...Two lads of about 13 had obviously been given the task of shoving their mother's incredibly overloaded trolley. They didn't look happy and one of them was presumably mimmicking his mother's voice when he pulled a face and said, "Never mind what it is or whether we like it, just put it in the trolley, we can always throw it away after Christmas..."Sums it up nicely!

Hi Chancer, yes, possibly the big screen did not help. I never usually suffer from claustrophobia. I've been down coal mines to coal faces a mile from the bottom of the shaft and no problem. But this tunnel seemed very different...I don't disbelieve the height you have mentioned, but to me it seemed more like 3 to 4 metres. I guess the signs hanging down added to the illusion. And I still have no idea where it was!

Hmm, interesting there are no answers. It did seem very new and perhaps it is not too well known yet...I was totally lost at the time. I had left Colombes and was trying to get to the south of Paris. Not long after we came out of this claustrophobic tunnel, we went by Versailles.

I recently travelled through a very low-roofed Péage tunnel on the outskirts of Paris (western?)...Driving my C4 Picasso it felt almost claustrophobic, but I cannot remember where it was...Does anyone know where this might have been?Thanks...

It is odd how the X Factor has massive viewing figures - worldwide - yet nobody admits to watching it...I actually love watching it and am sad the latest series has just finished.

Quillan - don't agree that Cameron had to go - it was his choice and I think it belittles his office.Fully agree with your suggestion about whoever wins, hosts next time!

PeterG - ha ha - but I notice you are from Yorkshire, so, football-wise, you need a good sense of humour!Gluestick - interesting comments - I never knew that about Proctor and Gamble, he kept that relatively quiet!

I am a football fan and I have a season ticket at Norwich City, but despite loving the game, I am concerned about the handling of England's application for the 2018 World Cup...Football is a game controlled internationally by FIFA and in the UK by the FA. These two organisations are mostly made up of retired footballers. And let's be honest, a lot of professional footballers, whilst very good at what they do, fall well short of being the most intelligent people on the planet...So was it really appropriate or necessary for the future king of England and the present prime minister of the UK to spend three days creeping up to these football cretins? Two of the leading people in our country were almost prostituting themselves to an organisation that believes it is above the laws of all countries. What good did that do the credibility of these two so-called important people, or the credibility of the UK?And even though I voted Conservative, I have to question why at times of international economic meltdown, the prime minister had so much time on his hands to kowtow to this bunch of old footballers?Sorry - rant over!

For any retired UK police officers, Narpo now does an annual worldwide policy for two, all pre-existing conditions covered, for £115. Only criteria is you have to be under 85 at time of application!

I'm not sure what word is used in French for 'website'?Can anyone help please?

If the Euro is doing so badly, why isn't the Pound heading back up to the 1.40 to 1.50 area?
-
Thanks NR...I'm taking a look at that one!

First week in January, NR...From memory, SeaFrance was £95 and P&O £107 or thereabouts...
-
Somebody on here said that once the cheap Dover to Boulogne crossings finished, P&O and SeaFrance would put their prices up...Well, they've done that alright...A similar return crossing between Dover and Calais that I made for £50 in October is now about £100 with both of them!Bring back Speedferries!

Well folks, thanks for your suggestions but we ended up at the Restaurant Chartier in Montmartre...Good food, perhaps not the best in Paris, but very good prices and a lot of fun with up to 300 diners eating at the same time and a queue outside waiting for empty tables!http://www.restaurant-chartier.com/

You make some good points, woolybanana...

Thank you both...

Does anybody know if there is another strike this coming Saturday (16/10)?And if so, is it likely Paris public transport will be affected?Thanks...
-
I've found a good way of monitoring the fuel queues at my local Leclerc in Loches, I have the Google mapping on my PC set-up so I can see when the queues are developing.
-
I think we all need a bit of fun from time-to-time, so just in case anybody is thinking I am serious about my Google mapping idea – it is just a joke!

Thanks Chancer...I guess I will make sure my tank is full before leaving Dover and then drive with a gentle right foot!

So, like Tom who started this thread, I am arriving in France in the next couple of days...Are there plenty of stations selling diesel, are they closed, or what is the actual situation please?
-
I am arriving in France early Friday morning...Is the situation so bad I am likely to struggle to get diesel to travel via Paris to Loches in dept 37?
