  1. Please be wary of a single american gentleman ( aged early 50s) requesting a stay at your bed and breakfast this month

This individual has just left our Bed and Breakfast and I now believe him to be in Caen, Normandy Landing Beaches Area.

He is planning to stay in France until mid July so he could be visiting lots of other regions.

He stayed with us for a number of days and he was an unusual charecter to say the least.

he told us he has been travelling the world for years and has no 'fixed' address

we put his odd behaviour down to living alone for many years

he certainly made our other guests feel uncomfortable and we werent sorry when he checked on 2 days early with 2 minutes notice!

However he paid us in full and thanked us for a wonderful stay.

HOWEVER on cleaning his room the following day I discovered that he had defocated in the shower and soiled our bath towels

we cannot comprehend how anyone could act in this way as despite his strange behaviour we very accomadating- offering late breakfast use of our bikes a lift from thr train station etc.

on leaving he had misplaced his glasses case and when I offered to check his room for him he replied

' no dont worry - it isnt a vacation unless you leave something behind'

just writing this posting is making me feel nausious and I feel our home has been violated

We have never experienced anything like this and obviously feel we need to warn other band b owners in case this isnt an isolated incident
  2. my problem is mainly eating in the bedrooms- crumbing bread sticks and then asking me to wash up the pots they have used!

plus our garden area isnt huge and I dont think it is appropriate for people who have paid for an evening meal to have people  in eye sight  people eating from a Super U Bag

80% of our guests choose to dine so it is a small minority and usually english speakers from US and Canada  but if i politley ask people not to eat on the premises I need to have a notice in french as well

I had having lots of rules and regs and appreciate comments so far

    thanks

  3. What is everyones policy regarding guests eating their own food in their rooms gardens etc

We serve evening meals in our renovated barn in the summer but sometimes when I go to set up I find other guests using it to eat their own crisps and sandwiches etc

Is it mean to put up a sign saying please dont consume your own food on the premises and if not how to I say so politely in french!!

  4. hi posting on behalf  of my australian friends who are looking for a B&B this September

They are looking for a quiet location  but with easy access of a small village or town . They are travelling by train so collection from a local railway station could be requested. They would also like the option of evening meal. They enjoy cycling so if you have any bikes available that would be great.

if you think you fit the bill please email me

  5. perhaps this posting should be titled guests who wont stay in!

we have just bade farewell to a lovely parisian couple who stayed with us for two nights

we didnt even notice their presence

they arrived saturday at 530 pm & went out for the evening at 7pm to return around 11 pm

They breakfasted late on sunday ( 930 UNTIL 1045) & left at 11 am to return at midnight!

they loved the room, the house & the location.

They are our second french guests & have been a delight

  6. I have been reading this thread with great interest as a mother of six & a new comer to running a B&B!

Fortunatley  having older children to stay  isnt an option for us as we only have a double room with travel cot ( under two's only)

Personally I wouldnt have taken any of my chidren to stay in a B&B before i could guarentte they sleep through the night

We took our children out for meals from a very young age & often had the 'oh no not kids ' look from fellow diners but our children behaved impeccably and on  more  than one occasion we were complimented on having such well behaved children

I put this down to mastering 'the look' & making it very clear what was expected of our children

it does make you wonder how such children behave in their own homes when they are so disrespectful of other peoples properties

  7. I find the need to add english tv rather depressing

I can understand DVD's Videos etc but small children will watch cartoons in any language

we only have french TV but do listen to Radio 5 for news but sometimes switch it off as its so  doom & gloom

Whenever We have been on holiday we have never wanted to watch ritish tv!!
