  1. My cold girlfriend and I are just about to order an oil tank for the cellar. But I am unsure what capacity to request.

Naturally, one does not want to refill it every month: once a year would be just about bearable.

It is a holiday home, stone built, 4-large bedrooms. It'll need about 10 radiators and I think the bioler will need to push out 25kw.

We will have it on for heating and hot water for 4 weeks in the winter when we visit.

Will a 1,000-litre tank be sufficient?

I appreciate I may not have given enough information, here but can anyone help?

    Thanks

  2. We have a stone built 4-bed house in Herault (34) and little money.

Some of the external walls are showing damp in some areas. The region does not get a lot of rain , so I am not unduly concerned.

The house appears to be built directly onto the ground, with shallow foundations if any.

Since they are made of thick stone, I guess a damp proof course is impossible?

Does anyone know of a cost-effective, non-invasive method of treating the walls to stop rising damp?

  3. Wow, thanks for the information chaps. I felt very lonely before yesterday with regard to this issue.

This is super advice. So the consensus is to acquire an oil-fired combi boiler to heat the radiators and keep the incumbent electric boiler for the d.h.w.

The next tranche of questions are: how do I store the oil? Who supplies it? Can it be stored in Le Cave, or does it have to be external?

How much does oil cost? Are there any special regs I should investigate?

    Thanks again,

    Julian

  4. Thanks Nick - great advice.

Can I fit a combi boiler to an oil system? Is it oil that gets heated or oil that gets burned to heat water?

Unfortunately, dealing with the girlfriend issue is not a viable solution. She has other qualities! So I try to keep her warm, but sometimes my best is not enough!

    Thanks

  5. I am a poor man with a cold girlfriend.

I want to install central heating St Pons, Herault. Currently we have a small electric boiler for d.h.w.

I noticed that my neighbour has an LPG tank in his cellar feeding a combi boiler. I want the same.

I can do the microbore pipework, fit the radiators, but feel aprehensive about LPG.

Can anyone advise how to get commission an internal (not external) tank and how much it will cost?

Who do I call who may be able to speak English?
