  1. Hello, Really starting to have panic attacks now as our completion date draws near...so sorry if this is a really daft question, but... Can anyone tell me how the money is transferred to the notaire for the completion of the sale, we are using a currency broker who can pay into any account (in euros obviously), can I get them to pay straight to the notaire (when they have transferred to me I had to pay a 'receiving' fee, so I assume the same will apply with the notaires account - but how do I find out how much?? (For the deposit I had it transferred to my French account by the broker (paying the fee by Credit Agricole) and wrote a cheque, but this time it would be easier to transfer direct, if we can.) How and when did people find out the actual amount payable for completion and how to pay? Any advice gratefully received.........
  2. Thanks all for the advice and info! We will take a look at the rescue option, the only problem is we would prefer a young dog, as they will have to get used to other animals, dogs and children. Ian, we are in North of 32, so 31, 40, and 47 are all possible. The only issue is we can't afford to spend hundreds of euros, are the breeders expensive do you know? ThankYou!
  3. Thanks alot for the info, that makes sense, as I think it relates to the automatic deduction of interest (similar to how things work with interest on accounts in the UK I guess). I don't really understand this, unfortunately. And do you know if you have to pay tax on savings, regardless of income, or is there any exemption, as in the UK??
  4. Does anyone have a bitch with puppies on the way or recently born in SW France? (Or know of someone in this situation) We are looking for a puppy, must be large dog, preferably alsatian/something etc cross, but any large breed would be fine, must be from parents with known good temperament, as there will be young children around. We would be able to take the puppy from end of July/beginning of August.   Also looking for a small puppy - terrier, jack russell - or similar, other details as above. We will provide a loving, family home!
  5. Can anyone recommend a euro savings account with a decent interest rate in France? I had a look at ING, and am not sure what the following refers to: Prélèvement libératoire it is a oui/non radio button, on the application form - anyone familiar with this??
  6. Hi Clifford, We are interested in two kittens for our farm. The only problem is we couldn't get them until the end of July. Would that be too late? Thanks
  7. Another question! (Thanks to those who have helped so far) My husband and I have signed the compromis together, but now think I should buy our place in France alone, due to his previous children and the fact that all the equity came from me. a) is it possible to change things after both signing the compromis? b) what happens if I die, can my husband stay at the property? (We have 2 children, but they are only young, so if I died unexpectly they would not be able to take on property). Or what arragements can be made so he can remain there as long as he wants to? Thanks for any tips, I have read various articles on this, but am still rather confused... I will of course talk to the notaire, but would appreciate hearing any experiences people can share.
  8. Does anyone have any idea when you usually get a confirmed date for signing the final acte for the house purchase? We signed the compromis in the middle of April, and an end date of 30 July was entered. I now want to get confirmation of this date, as we are moving out of our UK house at the end of the month and staying with various different people until we get into the house in France, hence contacting us will be hard and we need to sort removals and travel to France, leave etc before we move out. I can't get hold of my notaire, despite several phone calls, who do you normally chase for this - is it the notaire or estate agent, and when do you find out, if you don't chase anyone??
  9. We are planning on renting for a few months prior to buying somewhere in France, but probably don't want a contract for as long as 6 months. Does anyone know if it is like the UK, where the minimum contract is 6 months (unless you pay a hefty premium), we'd be looking for more like 3 months. Also are furnished rental properties easy to come by? And final question, is 400euro per month a realistic budget somewhere nearish to Angouleme (need min 2 beds, flat would be fine). (Have looked on the web, and it looks like you can get somewhere for that, but always hard to know if the 'virtual' situation is as it seems, in real life!)  Any info greatly appreciated.....
  10. Thanks, I had looked through the magazine adverts, I guess that was the reason for the question - there are so many I was hoping someone might be able to make a recommendation, as I have seen some comments that people have paid 1000's for professional advice which was really not worth the money.
  11. Hi, I am moving my family to France but will work and (for tax purposes, ie more than 183 days) reside in the UK. I will be contracting in the UK and also want to run gites in France, as an additional income rather than to earn our living. I am in urgent need of tax advice as to how to set up any necessary companies and where etc, can anyone recommend any firms in the UK who provide a good value service and are expert in French and UK tax / legal matters?  Thanks for any help!
