  1. We only had to wait 4 months for our letter from Newcastle by which time our E106 had run out,and we had registered with CPAM without needing the letter but then again this is the Charente where we do not seem to have the problems with officialdom that others seem to have .
  2. I know that this sounds obvious but from your post you appear to know a notaire who speaks english If that is the case why do you not ask him all these questions he is the expert and also ask him to act on your behalf
  3. As it is the notaire who will decide how much and if you have to pay CGT and deduct it from any proceeds I would suggest a visit to the notaire and ask what he thinks. The problem rests with proving whether it is your principal residence If you are French then that is not much of a problem but being a foreigner you are at a disadvantage, presumably not paying income tax, only been there a year, presumably not moving because of work commitments etc It may appear to the French authorities to be property speculation, but then again you might not actually have much of a capital gain if you have only been their a year

Sounds like you have tuned into Astra 1 at 19.something east of south instead of Astra 2 at 28. something east of south.Your box when tuned into the correct sattelite will give you BBC1 BBC2 BBC3 and some shopping channels You cannot put a sky card or a free to view card into it you will not get any french channels on this sattelite
  5. Without trying to be negative there are already numerous paint shops in this area,Mr Bricolage,Castorama,Weldom, Leroy Merlin all large chains What would you be able to offer that would be different? I find that French paint is perfectly acceptable and does come in numerous colours if you go for the mixing system The only objection I have is the cost of paint in France which is about double that of the UK
How would you solve that problem?
If you are limiting yourself to the english market then I think you would struggle either people bring it over from the UK or buy in France depending whether you are perminant or not.
Are you intending to import paint from the UK?
How much is that going to cost?
You would probable have to base yourself in one of the larger towns such as Angouleme La Rochelle to have some sort of customer base
    Bet of luck
  6. >I and my wife are both
    >in our early 60s..we intend
    >to retire to northern france
    >but we would like to
    >return to the uk every
    >three monthes ' so as
    >not to become french citizens.

You will always be British citizens no matter how long you stay in France
Are you confusing this with a carte de sejour which you must apply for if staying for more than 3 months
or is it for taxation purposes?
if you stay in France more tham 186 days in a year you have to pay into the French taxation system dosnt make any difference if you nip back to UK for a couple of days

    >..my problem
    >is how to stay in
    >the uk system doctor dentist
    >hospital etc when we would
    >have to give a french
    >addess

Totally impossible legally you would have to give a UK address.
Anyway what happens if you become ill you cannot then just nip back to the UK you would have to go to a French doctor

  7. You do not say what kind of pension you are getting or what benifits you receiveIf you are in receipt of Long term incapacity benifit:Severe disablement allowance:widows benifit:retirement pension you may be able to get an E121 which will entitle you to health care cover in France under the normal rules.
  8. You need to show proof of medical cover for your carte de sejour ie E106. In some departments ie 16, an E111 is acceptable, apparently in others an E111 is not accepted. So therefor it depends where you stay whether you can apply without your E106
  9. Have you contacted the Inland revenue international division re your queries.Do not expect them to answer questions relating to French legislation but they will be able to inform you of your tax liability while working in France for a UK employer and about your NI contributions Only the French equivilant of the inland revenue will be able to answer queries re tax liability etc in France.Re your husband my understanding is that if continues to pay voluntary class 3 contributions then he will receive a full UK old age pension at age 65.Have you applied for a pension forcast it may not be worth his while paying dependant on his age
  10. This paragraph is badly worded You will be entitles to an E106 for up to a maximum of 2 years dependant on your National Insurance Contributions over the past 18months/2 years.
