  1. We have a couple of carpets sitting in central London which we would like to have down here. If anyone has some spare space in a van or truck when coming down to anywhere near here I'd be grateful if you could get in touch. Rolled up, the carpets are about 8 feet long and less than a foot in diameter. Many thanks Jan Laury
  2. The last time I bought oak in 50cm lengths it cost €45 per cubic metre or stère. In the local freebie -Le 09 - there is someone advertising 40cm logs and another willing to cut to any required size.   Jan Laury
  3. Normally, there's lots of information available at the tourism office at Pamiers. I believe that there is a special deal if you go by train from Pamiers to Ax (there's a navette from the station to the bottom of the slopes) and there are special buses at the week-end from Pamiers to Ax for skiers.
  4. If you are looking for an on-line French course it is worth taking a look at www.fle.fr . This has links to places providing on-line courses (for which you have to pay) but also has some free exercises for various skill levels. Jan Laury
  5. I've posted a message on the SW France forum about French lessons in Pamiers. Since it is close to the border with the Haute Garrone and Aude it may also be of interest to anyone looking for French lessons in the surrounding Départements. Jan Laury
  6. If you are looking for french lessons and live anywhere near Pamiers you may like to know that a new course has just started at the MJC in Pamiers. There are three levels - beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Contact number for the MJC is 05.61.60.50.50.   Jan Laury
  7. If you are interested in finding out local tax rates, you can check them out on www.taxe.com Jan Laury

  9. Check out www.telerabais.com. It seems cheaper than most but does not work for all 08xx numbers since it thinks some of them are mobiles. UK is 3.1 centimes per minute (8am to 7pm), othrewise 1.8 centimes per minute plus a small connection charge (5 centimes I think). Calls to UK mobiles are 22.5 centimes a minute plus connection charge. You pay via your francetelecom bill. Jan Laury
