Oh no, what a sorry tale - I do hope someone can be found to help her! You might have already done so Merlin - but what about posting her on RESCUE under one of their extremely urgent headings??I suspect (hope to be proved wrong) that the chances of finding the original owners are slim! Sounds like an abandon! Best chance is to concentrate on finding a new home asap here! Jouals

What a shame Rdupre! For anyone wanting a great big, friendly dog who loves people - he is ideal!! Just needs someone to give him lots of attention and TLC!Jouals

Dalco has already been mentioned on an earlier post (someone looking for a Mastiff or Great Dane) - but I am giving him his own post now.... He deserves it!He is still at the Refuge Canin Lotois in Cahors (Tel: 0565226632) and just loves people - but spends nearly all his time in a cage on his own. He is vaccinated and microchipped, the Refuge will also arrange for him to be castrated. He is a big softy, but a large dog, so needs a strong owner (to whom I am sure he would soon become devoted). He was due to go to a foster home, but the lady has had an operation on her arm and cannot take him now. Anyone out there for him???Jouals

Yes, it certainly does make you feel good to see him so happy now. I must be going blind, I thought he still had his tail in that last photo!Jouals

Thanks Christine! Lucky, lucky Morgan (did they keep his name?). And he has a tail! How rewarding for all concerned!!Onwards and upwards....Jouals

Yes, a good site can make all the difference! We are still waiting to get one up and running for the Refuge Canin Lotois, don't ask me why we have not got one so far - so complicated it seems! I am not a party to setting it up, but I keep stressing how important it is to do so. The best we have so far is some photos on Photobucket:http://s760.photobucket.com/albums/xx241/FRANCOISE46/PHOTOS REFUGE CANIN CAHORS TEL 0565226632/In the meantime - I heard about this site yesterday - moonfruit.com - where it is apparently possible to set up a simple free web site (including a blog) - have not had time to investigate yet, but might be a possibility.Merlin, can you let me know the details of the nice man who has a space on his site for rescue dogs in the Midi Pyrenees as and when it is available?? We might be able to make use of it?Jouals

For future ref, I see there is a link you can copy on your photo page (top left hand) which says share these photos - if you copy the link into a post - people can get to your photos without you having to give your log on name and password to everyone.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2010-9/1359673/2140557What a lovely dog Boo Boo looks!!Some good advice above, we have a rescue Brittany who was very stressed on arriving here (he was 3 years old when we took him in). Took him a while to understand there was no need to pee indoors - it was definitely a stress thing with him. He gradually got the hang of things though, the last problem being that he continued to pee if we went out and left him (with our other dog). Since then we too have taken on a rescue Cocker Spaniel (same colour as Boo Boo), and that seems to have given the Brittany more confidence (he now plays as the Cocker insists!). The Cocker was much quicker at learning to go outside, but he was only a pup when we rescued him and had less "baggage" in his head!So good to see abandoned dogs finding good homes!!Jouals

That's fantastic news Christine! Let us know (if and when you have time) how he is getting on! The Brittany forums will be interested to know!Jouals

We found our tabby cat in the barn when we arrived, a poor skeletal little thing about 4 or 5 months old. It took a while to tame her - but now she rules the roost over us and 3 dogs! We had her spayed to avoid any more cats. We think she was an escapee from the previous owner's group of semi feral cats which he kept outside as mousers presumably. I dread to think how he got rid of them when he left, we found one dead under our gas tank and another little skeleton later on in the barn. Someone did tell me that he drove them into the countryside and dumped them! So our little cat had a lucky escape! She likes to eat a certain make of dry food in the summer and we keep a bowl of this and water on a table in the hall (out of dog reach) for her as she likes to snack! Apparently cats do like to snack. Having started on scraps of this and that to tame her, she is now as picky as you like about what she will and won't eat! No cat flap, so we are the resident door openers! She is a delightful little cat, considering her start in life, is very affectionate and likes to sleep on her blanket on a corner of the sofa, if not on the bed in winter! That is when she is not out all night during the summer months. A lap in front of the fire will do nicely on winter evenings. She also likes to take an evening walk with the dogs. The don't seem to mind. If we go too far for her, she just waits to rejoin us on the way back.Usual annual vaccinations (including anti-rage) and I worm her 6 monthly, as with the dogs. As already mentioned, don't give cats milk. Watch out for certain make of flea/tick treatment for dogs which is highly toxic to cats (if you have dogs). OK if your cat does not really come into contact with your dogs and does not sleep in their bedding etc. Good luck, I am sure he will bring you lots of joy! Jouals

Good thinking Merlin - here is DALCO:He is languishing in the Refuge Canin Lotois in Cahors (Tel: 0565226632) and just loves people - but spends nearly all his time in a cage on his own. He is vaccinated and microchipped, the Refuge will also arrange for him to be castrated if required. He is a big softy, but a strong dog, so needs a strong owner (to whom I am sure he would soon become devoted). Jouals

Merlin - many thanks for forwarding the link to our folder on Photobucket for the Refuge Canin Lotois (Cahors) dogs. (We hope to get our own site soon!!! Complicated!) If these people are near Cahors and they want a big dog, there is a great big (and I mean big) black Labrador dog there waiting for a home. He is an impressive dog - but a big softy too. Jouals

You could do a search for danois and mastiff on these sites:http://rescue.forumactif.com/forum.htmhttp://www.secondechance.orgThey cover the whole of France and you may well find what you are looking. Good luck!!Jouals

How utterly ridiculous that a new owner cannot get their dog registered in their name! What about contacting the SCC direct to find out the situation for re-registering dogs in these circumstances? It must be possible to get it done!! www.scc.asso.frJouals

I am just bumping this up again to help Castro's foster mum as I know she is doing all she can to try and find him a permanent home - she would love to keep him, but her circumstances don't allow her to. So - he is still there waiting to find a loving new home! Jouals

I have read somewhere something along the lines that the puppy is learning how far it can go with play biting - not knowing its own strength as it were. Your other dog is perhaps not giving out the right response that some of the biting is too hard (i.e. yelping when it really hurts). You need to make sure that the puppy learns that biting too hard, even in play, is not acceptable on dogs (or humans) - or it could become a problem later. Try to stop the puppy biting your other dog too hard if you can by even yelping yourself - you should see a reaction, the puppy should stop biting if you give a sudden high pitched yelp. The puppy really should not be allowed to get away with actually breaking skin on your other dog's neck! If the play gets too rough and hurts your other dog, put a stop to it immediately, the puppy should soon learn not to bite too hard because doing so brings play to a halt. I speak from experience here as we recently rescued a cocker spaniel puppy with very sharp teeth who likes to play bite, and this technique seems to work. He is quite startled if you yelp and eases off, seeming to realise that he is hurting. Plus our other two dogs certainly let him know when enough is enough! He is fond of hanging on their ears - but they let him know that they are not keen on this.Hope this helps - good luck...Jouals

Hi Christine - I try to double up at least once a day! Any news?I have put another link to this on http://www.epagneul-breton.org - mentioning the area restriction for re-homing. Fingers crossed for him!Jouals

Oh Merlin - what a shocking situation! I have heard stories myself about Figeac but had not realised it was that bad! Is it the same woman who cooks up food daily for the dogs which she gets from goodness knows where - lots of fat content etc (hence some overweight dogs!)? Can't anyone take official action?? How utterly ridiculous to have such rules for adoptions! It is unfortunate that sometimes some totally unsuitable people get involved with animal rescue! Volunteers are not going to hang around long if they are treated in this way either! What about Mme Diczy, SPA representative at Castelnau Montratier? Could she help?Jouals

Yes Christine, it's ok, people have realised he can only be re-homed locally to you. It was just on the off-chance of someone knowing someone near you, as some people on the Brittany forum do have French contacts. Have you posted about him anywhere else? Don't want to double up. By the way - someone on the Brittany forum was shocked to see a Brittany puppy in a pound! Until they realised it was France! Jouals

Christine, I have put a link to this on The Brittany Forum just in case anyone knows someone in France who can re-home Morgan. Hope he finds a loving home soon!Jouals

Well done to all concerned - this is a great result for this lovely dog!Jouals

Still looking for foster homes!! If anyone in the Cahors area (or even further afield - transport can be arranged if necessary) can help - please make contact or come along to the Refuge. Here are some of the dogs waiting for new homes or foster homes (copy and paste link). Dogs keep arriving and numbers are still far too high, conditions are very difficult at the Refuge with so many dogs.http://s760.photobucket.com/albums/xx241/FRANCOISE46/PHOTOS%20REFUGE%20CANIN%20CAHORS%20%20TEL%200565226632/Jouals

There must be someone out there for this lovely boy! He is doing so well in his foster home and will make someone a great family dog. Sadly his foster home just cannot keep him, although he is making himself at home - as you can see. Please pass the word to anyone you can think of for Castro - he would so love to find a new permanent home!!! Any beagle lovers out there!!? His foster mum tells me he cried like a wounded soul this week, she rushed out to see why, when the pompiers came by - he was inconsolable for a while - perhaps remembering the terrible tragedy that took place at his old home.As I said, transport is no problem to get him to the right home. It is inconceivable to think that he might have to return to the Refuge (where conditions are dire) and we are relying on the kindness of his foster mum to keep him for as long as she can. But the sooner he is found a new home, the better!! Jouals

Castro is still waiting to find a new home!! Anyone out there for him? He really would make someone a loving companion.... He is quick to learn and a bit of a couch potato given the chance!Jouals
