  1. Saxo is probably about 2 years old, so still a youngster. He is micro chipped (250269201041497) and vaccinated.  He would make a great family dog.   Life in the Refuge is no fun for him at all. He is such a softy - being picked on by other dogs is very difficult for him to cope with.  The sooner he can be found a new home, the better!!

It's really hard to understand how someone could have abandoned this lovely dog!!

  2. Anyone out there for this gorgeous dog, Saxo???  He is in the Refuge in Cahors where he is completely bewildered with life there.  He is a calm and tranquil dog, not at all dominant.  He does not know how to defend himself and submits to the aggression of other dogs, even the smallest ones!  Saxo is such a lovely dog, sociable and affable, just waiting to find a loving home.  I will be posting some more info about him very soon - but in the meantime - just look at those eyes!  If you want to know more about him, do let me know or contact the Refuge direct (05 65 22 66 32, open every day to visitors from 3 to 6 pm).  He is similar in size to a setter.

  3. Thanks Merlin!!  You are right in your comments.  We would all love to see them homed together.  Baba would be devastated to be separated from his "lady"!!  They are a gorgeous pair.  Just hope someone somewhere might have room for them both!

(Kazoo is featured on Merlin's doglinks site, he is all alone since his sister was adopted a while ago.  They were close and he misses her terribly.)

  4. This is one special pair!  This is a big ask - but they really do need a home together (hence their names given to them on arrival at the Refuge in Cahors!).  Alie (DOB c 2006, sterilised, micro chipped - 250269201031246), the Brittany, is a calm, affectionate and pretty girl adored by Baba (DOB c 2005, not sterilised, micro chipped - 250269201033210).  Baba is a bit smaller than Alie - a “bitsa”  and he is totally devoted to Alie, he hates to be separated from her.  So it really would be terrible for them to be split up!

They were found wandering together and brought in to the Refuge about 6 months ago.  It was obvious that these 2 had been well cared for country dogs - but they have never been reclaimed!  They would soon settle into a new loving home - somewhere with a well fenced garden and plenty of space to run around together! They have probably not known the comfort of an indoor life, but would soon adapt to it!!  They are a very sociable pair - both with other dogs and people.

The main thing is, can anyone offer them a home together!!?? Let me know if you need any further information.  These 2 really deserve the chance to stay together!!

    This is Baba

  5. Fantastic news!!!  Ezia has been adopted today by a lovely English couple and has gone off to her new home  in the country - she is one lucky girl!!  She will now enjoy a new life with 5 acres of fenced land to roam free with 2 new friends (also rescue dogs) - a  young border collie and an elderly golden Labrador (he will be relieved that Ezia can take over from him in keeping up with the collie!).  There will be even less room for humans in front of the fire from now on!  There are also other rescued friends to get to know: 2 horses, sheep and 4 cats.

Thank you so much to Ezia’s new owners for coming to get her today!!  And many, many thanks to Merlin for all her help too!!!

  6. Good luck for Alex Rowan- it's heart breaking, hope someone comes forward for him very soon.  Glad to see Merlin has him on her site too!

(We have a traumatised setter in the Refuge in Cahors at the moment - tragic story - elderly owners killed in a head on car crash. The dog was with them but survived unharmed and was brought straight to the Refuge where he is in a state of shock.  The son of the couple cannot keep the dog - we hope to re-home him asap too.)

  7. Terrible tragedies for so many people and animals!  It's awful.  As it is in Brazil - did you see that poor woman grabbing a rope with one hand with her dog in the other, dog lost in the torrent - but she managed to hold on and be hoisted up a building.

A few bits of happy news in amongst all this bad stuff is heartening at least!  The power of nature is incredible and no-one knows when their number is up!  So make the most of each day as it comes!

  8. I am bumping this boy back up to the top - he really deserves to find a good home asap - it would be terrible for him to have to return to the Refuge (full to overflowing as ever).  He is still in his foster home for the moment and it would be wonderful if he could be re-homed from there as quickly as possible.  He is a friendly young dog ideal for someone who wants a lively, intelligent and devoted companion.  If anyone needs more info, let me know.  I can put you directly in touch with his foster mum if need be.........

  9. Hello Lisa

Ezia is used to being with other dogs, both in the Refuge and when she was fostered for some months during her convalescence after her op.  She is spayed too.  I think she is house-trained as she lived with a family.  She had some training with her foster family - she is very intelligent and learns quickly.  She is a small dog for an Alsatian-type and is very sociable with other dogs, cats and humans.  She is very lively and just waiting to be given the chance to blossom in a new home.

If you are interested and can get to Cahors (a bit of a trek for you!), the best thing would be to come and see her?  We will need a bit more info about your situation too  - have you got other pets (I was so sorry to read you had your old dog PTS last year), enclosed garden etc - you can PM me if you prefer.

She could be fostered - but hopefully with a view to adoption - as it would be too awful for her to have to return to the Refuge for a 2nd time!  There is a form to fill in for fostering and a €20 subscription fee to the Refuge.

She is a lovely girl who deserves a loving home - she will make a great companion with the right family.  She is only young, so there is plenty of time to train her and settle her in to a new life with a loving family.

If you need any more information, let me know.

  10. It's time to get this poor girl back up to the top of the list again!  She is STILL at the Refuge after having been returned there by her foster family who could no longer keep her.  Can you imagine getting used to being in a lovely new home and then - shock, horror, back to the Refuge!

Anyone out there for her???   Let me know... I shall try and post some more photos asap, she looks a lot sadder now than she used to!!

  11. Hello all

Just got back home - he's gone!!!!!  She loved him at first sight!!  After introductions, he got into the back of the car fine (we had no idea how he would be about getting into a strange car etc) and sat there ready to go - will post some pics as soon as I can.  He is to be fostered in the first instance - it all hinges on how well he behaves himself now - especially with her other dog!!  They will be kept separate to start with until he settles in.  We were all thrilled and had tears in our eyes to see this boy go at long last!  I looked into his eyes and you could just see such hope and happiness there, even after all that time in a refuge!  He is going to be so happy there with so much space and freedom and company!!  I hope I am not counting my chickens!  Fingers crossed!!

Many thanks to all, particularly Merlin as ever!!  Will keep you posted with how things go...
