  1. Hi

Our situation is that my sister who lives in Surrey has offered us some bedroom furniture which would be ideal for our place over in France, but we will not be in a position to move it over there until early next year. We are trying to avoid having to collect it from Surrey, to take it up to the Wirral and then back down and across to France.

Has anyone possibly used any storage companies preferably in the Kent area, handy for Dover. Maybe even in northern France might be a alternative.

Does anyone have any suggestions, ideas about costs etc.

    Many thanks

    Gail

  2. Hi

Hope that someone can possibly help.

We are trying to contact RESE who supply our water here in (17), Charente Maritime,we have written a couple of times to them and eventually thought that everything was running smoothly, but now have a further query. As we seem to have more success when we have emailed other organisations we were hoping to email RESE.

Does anyone possibly have details of their email address.

    Thanks

  3. Hi

We spent a week in Brittany a couple of years ago. We found it to be a really worthwhile visit. We did however have dreadful weather, but still managed to really enjoy ourselves. We vowed to return and endeavour to see it when the sun was shining. A particular town that we liked was Pont Aven with the river running through the town. I think several artists spent time there i.e. Gaughin so there are some small galleries there.

Forum members who live in or spend more time in the area can no doubt help you more.

    Happy holidays!

  4. Hi

We are just coming to the end of our first Credit Agricole cheque book. Can anyone let me know if new cheque books are automatically issued by french banks as they are in the UK, or do we have to specifically request them.

    Thanks

  5. Hi

Only just starting out on our french venture so to speak, so there may well me some who know a lot more about this. We did however have problems trying to bank a euro cheque into our french account. Our branch of Credit Agricole is in Saintes(17),we tried to bank our cheque in Montignac(24). We were told that we had to send it to our normal branch to be banked. I'm not sure about branches within the same department though. Can anyone answer on this one?
  6. Hi

We are over in the Saintes/Cognac area next week.

Could anyone possibly let me know of market days in Saintes & Cognac, and whereabouts in the towns they are held. Also can anyone let me know when Pons has their market, we always seem to miss that one. - I just love to stock up on all the french soap -
    Thanks

  7. Hi

I wonder if anyone could help. Ian(husband) is an electrician. He is not however a domestic one as such as he works in manufacturing/projects. Could anyone possibly let me know what sort of things would be involved in him actually trying to convert over to a french domestic one, to possibly help his job prospects.

    Thanks

  8. Hi,

Sorry if this sounds a really daft question.

Up to now we have had cars which did not have a GB sticker on the number plate and obviously stuck on one to the car. Now we have car with the GB bit on the plate.

Can anyone let me know if this acceptable or do we still have to stick one on.

    Thanks

  9. Hi

I am interested in trying to build up a collection of old farming equipment. Does anyone have any ideas as to any places where they could recommend. I have browsed through a few brocantes etc, but any specific recommendations, mainly in the Charente Maritime area would be helpful.

If this is not allowed on this section, please could anyone who can help send me a message in my post box.

    Many thanks

  10. Hi,
We have a house in France that is near to Saints and Pons. I would like to know if there are any English children in the schools surrounding Saintes and Pons and what they think of the school and the all around lifestyle of living in France. Could people also reply if they have any children living in the surrounding area of our house because I have 2 young children who do not know any one, and would like to make friends with somebody english.

    Thanks
    Gail

P.S As you can no doubt see this request has been made by my 12 year old son.
  11. Hi

Saw your message and thought I might try to reply. We are not actually living in France (unfortunately) 2 boys 12 & 8 who would take some convincing on the idea. We do however have a property nr to Pons, about 20/30 mins drive. We are currently renovating our place and do get over to France when we can. Long term we feel we are keen to eventually make the move and so would like to make contact with maybe a few neighbours.

If you fancy a chit chat re France etc it would be nice to hear from you.

    Regards

    Gail
  12. Hi all,

I have only just registered with forum, so all a bit new to me. Anyway we are currently renovating a property not far from Pons,Charente Maritime and as so many of you will know, all is a big learning curve to say the least. Mind you all seems to be going ok at the moment.

To get to my point we are over in France in May and also August and are planning our first 'French Christmas'. Can anyone give any advice as to how Christmas may well differ from in the UK. We have 2 youngish boys and would like to tell them of how French children treat Christmas.

    Hoping to hear from anyone.

    Thanks

    Gail
