1. I did the best part of 100km last week when getting the vaccine ... all the larger towns around here are at least 30 kms, some more, one only 20 km .. but it soon adds up as I remember we used to advise / warn those coming to France who wanted to live deep in the country. Round trip to Toulouse 260km.

  2. They gave me the rdv for the 2nd jab (Pfizer) whilst I was there, but not possible, I am otherwise engaged in Toulouse Oncopole that day.  They altered it, and then I found an appointment in our village for a week later (so 5 weeks) and cancelled the one given.  Not too worried, did not want a Covid jab the day after immunotherapy anyhow!  I'm quite content that I've had the first one .. well protected now I believe.

  3. So far so good, any pain reducing already.  But then, I find that I cannot "deplacer" the rdv for the next dose without first "annuler" it! (I may have to stay overnight after my previous day's  treatmtent, if so impossible to keep it) so go  hunting, et voilà, suddenly, for a week later (so 5 weeks instead of 4) an appointment for second jabs at my local (walkable) centre, mid-afternoon.  So booked it, and then sent an email (as couldn't do it via Doctolib) to Beziers who did my first dose.

Now THAT should test the system!

I'm not holding my breath ... if they are waiting in the UK 12 wks for their second doses, I'm not worried even. It'll happen, eventually! Meanwhile, I'm as well protected as most, and better than many!

  4. Lori,

Yes, as per doctor's wishes!  As I said, tender overnight, as expected, took paracetamol, but I do that for other pains anyhow, and woke today feeling as though I'd walked into something and that is was bruised. Probably slept on that side at one point too.  Took arnica, then my usual meds, which includes cortisone, for the same problem (the current tendonitis, plus aggravated arthritis due to the immunotherapy) and now,2 hours  later can hardly feel it though it is still there a little  .. fingers crossed that will be it .. we'll see.  I'm tired though after yesterday's big day with it's scenic tour (intentional explore to work out the best way as GPS was wrong as I suspected!), two lots of shopping on the way back, and then my lunch (a sandwich) at 3pm on our terrace in the sun!

I know I had the last dose in the bottle, and as it was lunchtime, I suspect I was the last one for that batch, it might be why the doctor let me through as otherwise it would have gone to waste presumably.

They do give you the next rdv before you leave, but as I expected (I'd done the calculation) mine clashed with my next Immunotherapy appointment so managed to change it to the next day, but I am really not too worried about putting it back a day or two longer if I can, the 4wks interval has been proved to be not too seriously important.

  5. Chessie,

I supprt Lori and Idun, you cannot continue like this (though I do like your idea of depositing him with his sister .... and would be very tempted likewise ..) and I do not understand why your GP is not seeing patients, ours are. Usually very few waiting, and all well controlled.

Yes, eventually, any doctor would have to see your OH personally, but you have the right to discuss your concerns with your doctor, particularly since they impact greatly on your health.

You know you can rant on here, which also will help, but that doesn't solve the problem, so you do need to find a longer term solution too.

    Good luck as ever.

  6. Well, got my jab today, finally.  Out of age group, so went armed with doctor's prescription as requested.  Ignored.  Doctor thought about age, then decided I ocudl have it. Will never understand the French!  So far so good, lunchtime jab, can feel a slight tenderness when I press hard .. see what overnight brings! Been a big day though ..

  7. Thanks Lori, such a great feeling .. I love ticking things off my to-do list!!

Must admit I was very tempted to opt for AZ in another centre, but then thought, no point in annoying the GP!  And today the huge tree in our neighbour's garden which shades our pool and terrace quite completely, has been pruned, drastically, maybe this year the pool will get warm enough to swim in earlier and later as it has never been since we arrived.  Wonders will never cease!

  8. Chessie said:

"Who said anything about coming back !!!!

Sometimes I feel I just wanna walk away and never come back ......"

Can I join you?  Getting to the end of my tether here too, but for entirely different reasons .. sadly I cannot see the possibility of a trip back to the UK for some time ..not sure if I am now on Plan B, C or D.  Plan A disappeared sometime early last year and I've now given up planning at all until we know more.

Hugs, Chessie, it's not as if life was smooth before this, either.

  9. Well, I've just had a rather successful day!  Not only did I snag the one cancellation that arrived just as I was once again checking through the list just after lunch, .. albeit in the one centre I didn't really want to go to, but I also managed to download and install the new OS Big Sur software, which any MAC devotees on here will know has been known to be a little contrary at times.  Even got the printer working again, which is the usual non starter.

Pretty sure the cancellation was because it was not a good time for people  .. 12.30 ... Wednesday next!

Onwards and upwards to the next problem to be solved .. as they do say!

  10. Mint, like you, I couldn't care which I get, any is better than nothing, but my GP seems determined that I really should have the Pfizer  .. like you, I see the "odd" one (cancellation I presume) arrive, but they are gone before I have time to react, plus the ones I see are in places I'd prefer not to go to.  My doctor doing it would be so much easier too.

Idun, just checked my prescription, it just says I am eligible to be vaccinated, the vaccine type is not mentioned. This was before the arrival of AZ announce the day after she gave it to me though.

Lori, what can I say, but yes, it is more about getting as many some protection rather than fully protecting the few ... as one English friend who has had her first jab said, I don't care when I get the next one, better that others get a chance to be protected first .. and the epidemiologist I listened to (who had been a volunteer in the AZ trials too) said that by accident it seems that the longer you leave between the two doses, the better.  It's to do with improving the response, though I am sure there is more to it than just that, I didn't totally understand it as it was in Q&A and it was late ... and I was tired by then!

Judith, have you tried your doctor, or any doctor?

It's now a rapidly changing situation, Judith.  Just go for it!  Wish you luck[kiss]
Oh, yes, Mint, got a prescription from her  on Monday, but because of my conditions she wants me to try for a Pfizer jab, but has conceded that if I don't succeed in a "few" weeks,  she will consider letting me have the AZ, and yes, they have started vaccinating already.

But now I read that from mid-April I can walk into a  pharmacy and get a AZ jab anyhow, which is what I will do if the situation continues today.  Saw one flag up in a centre I'd prefer not to go to today, but it disappeared before my very eyes as I was considering it .. I presume a cancellation.  But some hospitals now have AZ listed for appointments as well, that today for the first time .. so maybe if the pressure goes off the Pfizer because people are taking the AZ one, they will appear.  Personally, I would be happy with either .. better than none at all!

Seen your PM, wil reply soon, but manic here today - again - with emails ...

  12. Thanks, NoMoss, since I have a relaticely complex prescription, even now, plus other eye issues which I would always want checking, it might not work out for me, but still worth knowing as we are so close to Spain from here.   Might work out for reading specs though.

  13.
Castex and Véran are speaking now, finally with a sense of urgency, sending extra vaccines to the départements which are worst hit, apparently ordering weekend opening of centres

    If true, about bl**dy time..
Whilst we cannot get an appointment for love or money down here .. due to shortage .. always did suspect that vaccines were being sent to the "heavy" use areas.  Checked 4 times yesterday and today .. a few 2nd injections dates in 2 centres (I am checking 6 or 7) yesterday and first thing this morning .. all disappeared by lunchtime ... nothing at all anywhere for 1st injections.
Thank you everyone. I did try to get just the lenses replaced in the existing frames which are fine but they wanted €250 each lens. So I politely left the shop.

My prescription is fine but themlenses are badly scratched, my fault.
I wear my specs when working, sometimes around and under cars; plastic lenses don't

last me long, so I no longer buy them. The last ones I had years ago were ruined when

sparks from an angle grinder landed on them, and an assistant once accidentally melted a hole in one pair with a soldering iron.

When I order glass lenses the usual remark is that they are heavy, but I

already know that, and it doesn't really bother me. They are also shock

proof, and withstand the occasional drop on the floor. I haven't tried

    them on concrete.

We buy our specs in Spain, no appointment necessary. There is plenty of competition, so prices are reasonable - especially compared to here. Those we use, probably all, have qualified ophthalmo's, so our eyes are properly tested and this is included in the price as part of the service.

Hopefully we will soon be able to go to Spain again. My Zeiss lenses, progressive, photochromic, shock proof, and anti-reflective, cost about €225 each there.

    Nomoss,

Will they use a French prescription in Spain?

  15. It seems  it is the admin which takes the time.  For example, regular blood test taken by nurse at the surgery. 2 minutes to take the blood, 15 minutes to do the paperwork.  So 4 vaccine an hour sounds about all they can cope with.  Shambles.

  16.
Homemade vegetable soup is great, too, and dead easy - and cheap - to make. Every few days we bung whatever vege is left over into a pan, 10 minutes turning in hot oil, then simmer in a litre or so of water until vege softened, then wiz in the blender. Shove in the fridge and microwave bowlfuls when needed. Healthy and tasty meals for 2 or 3 days.
Sounds delish.  Only problem for me is I rarely have any left over veg, I eat all mine!

  17. What is it about no 7 buses?  here is Sue talking about her friend with pancreatic cancer, and yesterday I had the news from a friend that his sister has just been diagnosed with it.  Not the most usual of cancers either.

Sue so difficult when you want to help but can't.  But you can be a good friend and keep her spirits up which will be the help she will most appreciate I am sure.
