It seems to me that removing the radar notification signs is confirmation that the fixed radars have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with making the roads safer; they are simply a revenue stream for the government.
And what is wrong with making the criminals pay?

Chico - that may prevent your being shot through the head but the rest of you?

Ryanair does not sell return tickets - therefore no problem.
Crime is always worse where thare are loads of Brits.
thats akin to saying crime increases when the pikeys move in

Very true - though I am not saying they are necessarily to blame.

mogs - don't is the only sensible solution.
1. Offspring are seldom adequately grateful for anything you do for them
2. You will teach her the bad habits you have acquired - everything has changed since your days behind the man with the red flag
3. Any mistake will be your fault
4. Find some other mug to do it even if you have to pay - silly me - of course you will, that's the only purpose of a parent
The gloom and doom merchants are saying the euro is going to fall. With Italy now in dire straits, what does the future hold I wonder?
Based solely on previous experience, the € will strengthen, weaken or stay the same or all of them but not necessarily on the same day. What will be, will be. We have chosen to live in Euroland, cannot easily sell up and move on (even if we wanted to) so will grin/grimace and bear it.
Far more importantly, will AP ride some winners on his first day back?

Sorry for the insult - though you should try and write English if you wish to be understood by most of the members of this forum.

Are you American and mean garden? Or do you mean a farm/builder's yard?

I just looked horrified at population control. About time that the people of this planet controlled the population.

Great idea - a good start would be to let famine and other "natural" disasters take their toll.
No more child allowances and other benefits that encourage profligate breeding..
Compulsory sterilisation of great swathes of poor - they are of no use to anyone.
But doubtless the do-gooders won't see the sense of these measures.

But this Scrooge is real.

I am an atheist/agnostic (cannot be bothered to wiki to find out which), Di is Jewish so neither of us celebrates the Winter Solstice. As for the ridiculous present giving thing on a specific date we have more sense so don't.
Scrooge is alive and well and living in N Lot.

Yes - what type of animal and/or how you take it may not be legal though.

Sure, he needs a roof over his head, but he also needs to be able to pay for it, otherwise he is stealing........ That's where that law falls down.
He probably can afford to pay it, but chooses not to.
As for his leaving in October, you seem very confident but if I were living rent free I would stay put for as long as poss particularly if my landlord lives 3000+ miles away. Be prepared!!
Anyone who would do this to a friend has neither morals nor ethics so there is no point in appealing to his better nature. The law won't help much either especially when you need instant assistance (particularly as I suspect that there is no written agreement covering the let). I could never publicly recommend hiring Ron and Ron with their baseball bats however appealing this might seem but I could see the attraction.
Sorry for your predicament.

Coops, if he wants the credit he must take the blame. Plus of course he may have typed/written/said April 31 in the first place.

Or will the Brits revert to type and prefer a plucky loser?

As one of the countless thousands of jockeys inspired by Ginger McCain and Red Rum to attempt to win the Grand National it was fitting that the first of my 29 visits to Aintree on National day was on April 31, 1973 when Red Rum caught Crisp in the dying strides.
Tut tut, Marcus Armytage.

Is "R" Italian for 6th? It seems very low so cannot imagine driving at 90 in that one.

It is a sad reflection on educational standards that a Math wizard is required for such a calculation. Though I suppose using the word "math" rather than "maths" suggests the OP is American or watches too much American tv.

M. at local garage recommended 20 mins at 100/110 kph which I did - twice, there and back. Mme has a Bosch diagnostic box so was able to check this morning and switch off warning symbol.
Local roads/traffic will allow occasional speeds of 90kph (not more of course it would be illegal) but not for any distance. To achieve this luxury I have to venture out on the A20, at least 45 mins away.
Anyway chaps many thanks for your good advice.

Thanks for this advice - I'm off to the A20 for a bit of a burn. Will report later on success or otherwise.

As for the rest of your comments, yes, it will be interesting to see whether the UK govt actually finally DOES something about the whole question of these types of charges.
But how will that help - the cost of travelling will not come down.
