  1. I have guests at the moment who want to pay at the end with travellers cheques, the question I want to know is can I put them into my french bank as they might be sterling (I havent seen them yet) is this what you do with tavellers cheques? as the only experience I have had with them is whilst on holiday abroad I used them at the hotel to exchange for currency, so will they just give me them and Ill take them to the bank and pay them into my account? this is quite urgent as they are due to go Monday and Ill not be able to pay them in till Tuesday as the banks are shut Monday and by then they will be long gone and  and Ill be left with worthless travellers cheques

    thanks in advance

  4. hi there,

the cats will be fine! we brought 13 over and 6 dogs in a motorhome plus 9 people! for the cats we used dog bags there are specific dog carriers that you buy from Halfords for about 40 pounds each, you cat put 3 cats in each as long as they dont fight plus theres room for a  small littertray, but just put paper in as litter gets all over if they up turn it, our cats cried for about 1/2 hr and then settled down as long as they are together and you keep reasuring them, our journey was two days between Newcastle and Limousin with a sleep break as I was the only driver and the cats were fine and still are except my old 20year old who had a good year in the Sun and died peacefully, I gave the cats dried buiscuits and water on the journey but they didnt eat alot,

    hope this helps

Yes we do give  a free drink on arrival and often when you are having a drink yourselves you offer the guests to join you , (for free) and yes we have at times got really good tips, one,  lady gave us 100 euros for three nights and I thought she had made a mistake so told her and she said "no love you keep it you've worked for it," I didn't think I'd worked that hard! or mabye she didnt know how much a hundred euros was!

    thanks Loads everyone

  6. hello there,

how long has she been in reciept of DLA, I am asking because, we came over here with my elderly mum and uncle, who has a learning disability he was in reciept of DLA long term high rate for Life and has been for sinse 1990, we reapplied for his SDA and recieved that more or less straight away and then reapplied for DLA as this was stopped aswell, it got refused, so I appealled, well if you applied for DLA the first time you will know they are prone to refuse you it saying you are not entitle, well I appealled and got refused again and then reappealled stating in England he had a mobility car and we had come here for health reason etc and a better way of life for him etc which was the truth but because he would be worse off without the money to buy a car and living in a rural district he would be worse off mobility wise and financially wise and that he as a british and eurpean citizen was entitelled to live anywhere in Europe without losing his rights, which is true, it was then granted and we recieve full DLA monthly for him and it was back dated for 8 months what i am trying to say is reappeal if she has been onit along time you have more rights.   i hope this helps, where are you planning to move to in Limousin we are in Magnac laval Haute vienne its Lovely but Quiet,

send me a PM if you need anymore help

    Cheers Liz

  7. Hi there,

we moved to limousin a year ago, it is a wonderful place to live although very rural but if you have a car you are driving distence of the major towns of limoge and Potiers all within 1 hour, we can help you and give you our personal experiences some are quite funny now but weren't at the time, I run a B and b and get alot of house hunters as we are right in the middle to view all of Limousin but also Potiou-charente, its nice to live away from it all in the summer, however I would suggest you get somewhere on the outskirts of a town or village then you have the best of both worlds and its nice to think you can walk to the nearest pub, shop, etc in the winter. the weather here can get hot in the summer but not unbearable like further down south and you can get alot of thunderstorms especially at night.  Its best to come over and view houses and look at the facilities near the houses, have a list of your requirements. And view about one or two a day no more or you will get bogged down and confused, when you go to view spend some time in the local village town get a beer meal etc, get afeel for the place, cos some places are fine for a holiday but would you want to live there, especially when your used to Asda down the road and shopping centres etc, you dont miss them till their gone! dont get me wrong they are here but often a hours drive away! hope this helps alittle

  8. to Jim the drummer, You can only try,

what have you got to lose?

We all came here with lots of fears,  and we all did it, and I can say its for the better, whether it has worked out, or whether it has been a disaster for some of us, but in the end of the day we did it and theres only us to blame if it went wrong, because at the end of the day we made the chioce, and you should also , because we did and nothing at the time would put us off!

At the end of the day its a good adventure, but make sure if theres kids involved they recieve a good education and a better life cos thats whats important!

    cheers

  9. hello there,

I run a bed and breakfast in the HAUTE VIENNE  area,

we have run it for about a year and have done really well, we are in an area with not alot of b and bs and on a tourist trail, however most of the people are house hunters, we get tourists in the summer months I agree with the last poster, you do need a pool, so we got one built, as alot of people turned us down last year cos we had no pool, I also think you need alot of inital investment to get the place up to scratch for the market, a website also helps immensly and you def cannot survive on only the bandb income, the winter months you need another income ,as the market is just to unreliable to rely on it alone.

i hope it works out for you
