I would call the SAMU, I have done, let them sort it out, let someone there decide the priority according to the information you give. Though the fire service have sometimes been sent, though they couldn't do much.

I spent my working life in the NHS. I was certainly happy to have worked there and would like to think that had it not been for ill health (a bit ironic really) I might still be working there.

Have seen dentists here, am not too impressed, now see one who is not French and who trained abroad, he is very good. Dentists in England, well, I lived in London so no probs there. Loads of dentists, even at three in the morning it is (or was) possible to find a dentist. While I find the story of your neighbour You Can Call Me Betty very sad I am not too surprised. It does cost to be ill here and while many say it is okay because some doctors won't pay in the cheque until next month there is a lack of logic there. If an examination or appoitment costs X amount and the doctor holds the check because you don't have X amount now, if you have the same income next month you won't have that X next month. The CPAM, Insurance, RAM whatever pays back the money if you're in the system but it is still a problem, or a worry. This was on another site, Reponse Times. Hmmmm, a return to London seems an attractive idea sometimes!

I've just seen the prog. The idea that people have to put off treatment because they can't afford in a developed(?) country is terrible. Re the teeth thing, I remember years ago in England people who had severe abdominal problems because years ago, for one reason or another, they didn't go to the dentist.

Photograohy anywhere really, not just in Frane, the discussion is still interesting. Online Photographer.I know of sports photographers that shoot JPEG (depending on the importance of the event), Karl Grobl shoots JPEG.Just as an experiment, though I use it sometimes, the next shoot I do I'll use it also . . . . .just to see.

My Grandfather was a dead ringer for Arthur Lowe. He went to see him in a play once and an usher came along and said to my Grandfather, "Lr Lowe, would you be wanting to see your brother after the play".We digress, Philip Madoc, lovely rich voice he had.
-
Only just seen that actor Philip Madoc has died on 5 March.Probably of all his work it is his role in Dad's Army that he'll be best remembered for (?).No Soggy Chips

Gosh, that's going back a bit, part of a publicity campaign."The origin of the phrase "Balham – Gateway to the South" was a Southern Railway advertisement dating from the 1926 opening of the tube station. The stations connect Balham to both the City of London and the West End".But me, no, childhood memories there for a while, que ça.Oh, speling, i stil thinc it iz importent that peeple know how to spel.

Racist - no.Silly - perhaps. This how your meat is killed seems to be a major thing in this election. Perhaps homelessness, unemployment, the so called crise etc etc aren't such a big deal after all, but your meat, wow . . .

Have you got a link or news item to refer to?

Grammar and spelling still relevant. Perhaps I am old fashioned but I think why should I decipher what is occasionally gobbledy gook. In this day of spell checkers, on line dictionaries in a multitude of languages there is less excuse \ reason for bad spelling now.Having had a look at some of those Facebook comments, rest assured you don't need to take a stupid test to join, they have a fixed quota of dumbos per month.

Eeeek, trendy talk; Facing Down! Not racist I think. Implying perhaps that all that live in the EU should feel part of the EU.
I was very upset by the SAMU response when we phoned for an emergency ambulance at 2am and my husband was dying.Instead of calming my son and saying the paramedics were on their way, they wanted to know what exactly was wrong and what illness he had and what blood group which we had no idea about, how the hell did we know the answers in all that panic and upset?. We only rang them because of the urgence and because the local sapeurs were already at a neighbour's house in their van and the next nearest were a good 15kms further away.
When I was with the LAS often it was difficult to get info because people were distressed, didn't have the info or whatever, it isn't every day one needs an ambulance after all but if info was hard to come by we'd send on the call anyway, better to do that that than upset or frustrate the person calling even more. Though none the less the training by the LAS (in the ambulance service in England in general) was good and the information was usually obtained by being reassuring. The term paramedic isn't really valid in France, it is a specific qualification that does not exist here info here. The SAMU are crewed by an doctor, an ambulanceman or ambulance woman and a nurse. Forthe pompiers, with the VSAV, there isn't the concept of ambulanceman or ambulance woman. They are firemen and firewomen that are not dedicated to the VSAV in that they can be on a fire engine one day and the VSAV the next. They don't even have a driving course to do as such. Essential in England to be able to drive on blue lights. In England from 1948 all that was needed to join the ambulance service was a first aid certificate until a report in 1966 from a committee chaired by Dr E L M Millar. It took about eighteen months to qaulify and it was a great feeling to finally get the Millar certificate and badge. I think one of the main differences between France (and similar countries) and Great Britain, USA etc is that paramedics can administer drugs. A list of countries that have paramedics here.
112 is the pan european emergency number and as such is manned by multilingual operators. It has been going since 1991 !http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/112_%28emergency_telephone_number%29
80% of calls get put through to the Fire service (as if you called 18), 20% of calls get put through to the SAMU (as if you called 15), whether there is someone there that speaks English at the time you call is a matter of chance. details here where it says calls go to either the Fire Service or the SAMU.This page states that one of the problems is that the call takers do not speak the langauge of the caller. Having worked for the LAS I can certainly vouch that in any control room there are not a multitude of linguistics experts.

My dotage is a long way off, Internet Explorer . . . ! Already that is navigator that is confusing. Had a friend that used it and just gave up if she wanted me to do anything on her computer. Firefox or Opera here.
-
I used E-monsite. Simple, easy and can be upgraded.

Still having problems here putting in links. Tried just putting in the address, tried using the little box all to no avail. Even tried typing in [url*] - [/url*] and [*url=address]title[*/url] but nothing. Tried on Opera and Firefox. The * I have added .
An NHS of which we can proud?
