I've been there a few times and I rate it about the equivalent of Canary Wharf, so ... ugh!However, La Défense is 4.4 km from L'Arc de Triomphe. Compare that with 10 km to go from Canary Wharf to Piccadilly Circus!

After which, UK steadily prospered (much or most of it down to having the most FDI as companies the world over took advantage of the two English-speaking countries for entry into the Single Market). That FDI has largely dried up since 2016 (for the UK while in Ireland it continues to accelerate). I think you will find that the UK is now teetering 5th to 7th (nominal GDP) and just hanging on to 10th place (PPP) behind the big 5, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, and France.

Buying local (circuit court) may be more expensive, but it is clearly better for both our health and the maintenance of our agriculteurs.

The 'truth' has to be searched for.I have not found anything actually from the EU on this (the nearest being the Guardian article's reference to 'having seen' a document) while the other junk news lacks any rigour whatsoever. You do not feed animal protein to herbivores, that way lies BSE & CJD (cows & sheep being herbivores) and it is clear that this will remain interdit;2. You avoid 'cannibalism' because that way seems also to lie BSE & CJD, similarly remaining interdit;3. Omnivores are OK eating animal protein (i.e. humans, pigs, chickens), but not their own species (see 2);4. Omnivores already eat animal proteins (pigs eat eggs, small mammals and insects; chickens, ideally, eat insects, assuming they are not battery fed).5. Expect almost any UK news source to write all kinds of nonsense, especially if they can tag it with an anti-EU, anti-France or anti-Germany view.

Ken, I don't know where you are ('expat' enclave?) but around here absolutely nobody has any interest in Brexit. It's been and the UK is gone (even though Brexit will probably never be 'done' for the UK).; keeping a light on for Scotland!We have plenty to think about for the future of France and the EU, especially the 'ever closer union' (and other stuff, not least defence & foreign policy) that we can now get on with without the traditional disruptive machinations of La perfide Albion.

We are 44.5N with a 90cm dish.Usual problems with meteo (heavy rain etc).Another thing to note if you have a socle & dish at ground level - much reception was lost recently - solution was to cut the mauvaises herbes that were thick (and tall) in front of the dish.

Calories are absolutely not the same - according to how they are constituted, they are metabolized differently, especially as to how (after transformation, as relevant - notably NADH/FADH ) inputs to the ETC (Electron Transport Chain), whereby our mitochondria create our energy (ATP - Adenosine Triphosphate), there are huge differences. The appalling Linoleic acid (a.k.a. 'heart-healthy' polyunsaturated Omega-6) is a whole other ball game. Then there is the complication of ethanol ...

'Yours', for eating cr*p that contains (probably) far too many glucides (averages approx 400 gram/day USA, 350 gram day/UK, even France now is approaching 300 gram day) and the wrong kinds of fats, especially linoleic acid, introduced about 100 years ago and now dangerously over-represented in diet.Unfortunately, that is what is often represented as 'heart healthy' even by doctors, but they usually spend 1-3 days (total) during their training on nutrition and even less on the interaction between nutrition and biochemistry.PS. 'CICO' (a.k.a. eating too much) is now (for years) discredited.

More worrying are the official figures (from, I think, Eurostat, but I can't lay my hands on them now) that showed that in the past decade EU countries (inc. UK for those stats) have lost between 25-50% of all farms. France was round about the 50ù loss mark. However, there was no loss of food production. That, of course, means that many, many small local farms have been replaced by a few large industrial ones (just like in USA, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, ...). But France? Oh my! Thank god our département seems to have resisted, at least comparatively.

I have been privileged to enter the Grotte of Altamira - exceptional! I have been in some other caves with ancient paintings. Lascaux is only available at distance on the internet. I have never seen a single fruit or vegetable - only meat!

'Ultra-processed foods' = 'food-like products'. They are not 'real' food. 'Real' as in something that has recognizably come out of the ground, from a bush or tree, from the sea, or a farm (preferably small and local) via an abattoir.We eat locally produced food, much of it bio, and cook from scratch, even the 2-3 Indian meals that we eat each month. We are lucky - we live in the "premier département agricole de Midi-Pyrénées" and we can afford to buy bio.As a general rule, albeit not always strictly applied, if it comes in a packet and has a list of ingredients, we don't touch it. An occasional Tarte Tatin (from Picard) is an exception that proves the rule, as do the packets of Spanish meat products (occasional Jamon Serrano, and the occasional treat of Jamon Iberico).

Wow! On Dimanche en Politique yesterday, Guillaume Peltier (V.P. Les Républicains) was advocating an instantaneous stop (d'un jour à l'autre) to absolutely all immigration (no exceptions!).Surely ALBF can't be right. Are we really following down the horrible route after the UK, but with a typical French twist?
