Fire cement?

Now that I have the replacement baffles for my WBS, I have to re-assemble it.

Some parts were joined/sealed by a cement-like substance (very hard). Obviously fireproof...

I seem to remember fire cement, in the UK, available in ready mixed tubs, but the only similar thing I can find here in France is "ciment refractaire", in powder form.

Is that suitable? If not, what should I use?

Several years ago I bought a tube of mastic réfactaire from Bricomarche, 'Pyro Feu'.

Resistant a la Flame et jusqu'a 1500 °C

Montage entretien

Foyers

Inserts

Poêles

Cheminées

It's applied using a standard mastic gun and it does what it is supposed to do. I would recommend it.

In the United Kingdom, fire cement came in pre-mixed tubs, but in France, the closest thing I've seen is powdered "ciment refractaire."

I don't know the temperature where you have to seal, but I successfully sealed the flue connection on the back of our pellet stove to the flue using high temperature (black) silicone sealant.

It is still OK and flexible after 12 years.

The mean flue gas temperature is quoted in the manual as 218C, but I've never measured it.
