Gemonimo
For total beginners, I'd say Les Rasses/Les Cluds near the small town of StCroix. It's all on the flat, has several cafés dotted around and fabulous views of the Alps.
Seconded, Swissie! And the views! Sublime!

Swissie
We are not too far away - so hope to meet you some time. Bonne chance. SwissieIf you want to stay on the French side, we have Metabief/Mont d'Or and Les Fourgs (which is just on the other side of the border to St Croix/Les Cluds). Easy to ski in France one day and in Switzerland the next. Or just above us (Swiss side) you have Les Cernets, with a nice family style hotel, right on the pistes. Pierre Eric the owner is a former Swiss Champion and he and his partner Karine, are really friendly. They do their own ski/boot rental.
