Hi there,

I have posted a lengthly thread regarding my plans to marry in France. So to begin, please know that we are aware of the legalities, etc involved in a marriage ceremony in France and have this sorted. However, what we are interested in is finding some local markets, florists, hair salons, photographers, eateries etc in Carcassonne.

Have a look at Chateau de Cavanac which is just South of Carcassonne off the road to the hospital. http://www.chateau-de-cavanac.fr/ 

They do an all inclusive 5 course meal which includes apperitif, digestive and a bottle or red, white and rose wine for 42 eurosin summer it is possible to eat outside on their covered terrace - not sure whether there would be suitable veggie food but the website does have  menu so you could have a look. Have a look at Pages Jaunes for florists, hairdressers etc. Polly

Gosh, that place looks amazing. My OH and I have not been to Carcassonne yet but this description and the menu make me think that a visit might be a good idea.

I did try the yellow pages and I had very little luck navigating them. I appreciate your response to that query, though I am still on the hunt for those things.

For something special you could chech out http://www.domaine-d-auriac.com/ . About 4 miles orth of Cavanac n the corner at the beginning of the Cavanac road. The bistro is really good at lunch time, not tried it in the evening yet.. You could even have a round of golf between courses peut etra?

For fish there's Chez Gill on the Route Minervios near the train station, over the canal towards the rail bridge. Lovely seafood meals, if you eat fish that is?

Good fish restaurant on that little road coming down from Carcassonne train station as well.

If the station is behind you and you cross the canal and the road that goes off to the left and continue towards the one way road at the bottom I think its the last but one restro on the left. They do other food (I'm not a fish eating person) but their main line is all sorts of fish. My other half who is a 'cockles, whelks and anything in a shell'  girl says its very good.

Probably the best florist in Carcassonne is AZUR in rue de la Liberté.  http://www.murielle-bailet.com/.

Just up the road is one of the top Hairdresssers - DESSANGE http://www.justacote.com/ficheCoordonnees.php?ID_ENTREPRISE=40664.

As a wild card for photography you could try Nicolas Postal http://www.fotorepost.net/ He is a photo journalist and something a bit special. He used to do weddings and such for friends - don't know if he would be intersted but you could give him a call.

If you are thinking about a picturesque chateau near carcassonne you could also look at "Restaurant Château saint-martin trencavel " 5 minutes from le Cité and a beautiful garden setting - and he does a vegetarian menu.

If you cross the canal and turn immediate left then I think we are talking about the same place, Chez Gill? But it depends on which left you mean, because all you will have on the left after turning left is the canal [;-)]... Did you mean on the right (my OH's other left [:D]) peut etra?

Sorry don't turn left after the canal bridge, keep going towards McDonalds, the restro is about 20M on the left, last but one I think.

That would be "le Bistro" then ?. next door to the Hotel Terminus ?.

People say it has good seafood and one of my neighbours swears by the oysters. Have been there a few times - good value - reasonable service - only time I had seafood though (Gambas a la Plancha) the prawns were a bit tired and soft. Must have been unlucky.

Mind you if you like Fish/Seafood cooked " a la Plancha" it would be difficult to find better than Eddie Gils down by the canal.

Excellant resto in Preixan - open Tues - Sun lunch and eve.  Great local food, v.generous portions and lovely terrace 'when' the sun shines.  Reasonably priced menus and carte -  called Relais de Preixan.

We have been very busy with a move and returning from holidays, but are now becoming more settled and looking into this again. I will look into this and let you know how I make out.

We went to Cavanac last week when my veggie sis-in-law was here. We had a lovely meal/evening with excelent service thrown in. My sis-in-law had one of the largest good omlets that I have seen and she throughly enjoyed it!

Thank you very much for all the information. I have been madly planning and preparing. We are headed out tomorrow and arrive in Brighton, England. Will be in Carcassonne next week Wednesday.

You are right, that florist is incredible. I absolutely loved all of it, but sadly every attempt I made to connect with them was met by no response.

I couldn't risk it and wait until we arrived, so I had to get crafty and created a feather wand/bouquet instead.

I had little luck finding a photographer that we liked the style of and opted to buy an SLR camera for our Euro-trip/wedding and hired someone in Canada that was more suitable for a photo shoot at a ruin site.

As Clair has pointed out, we are directly South of Paris and it is addressed as South East because we are in the Languedoc Roussion reigon. If you want to be precise then we are just West of the middle, but not much!!

It always amaises me when we cross the MéridienneVerte, which is several times a week, just to think of where we are living [:D][:D]!! Lovely place...
