Âme
It's wonderful! Is that for your home, Frenchie? I think in the UK there's not such a strong tradition of nativity figurines like there seems to be in France & Spain. At least I see lots of them for sale here, are they called Santons? Frenchie
Yes, they are called santons, and yes, it is in my home !Glad you find it nice.[:)]Home is where the heart is
Âme
What are the traditional characters? I ask because, in Spain, among the usual suspects of shepherds & wise men, they always have a man squatting with his trousers around his ankles and the back view is, well, in action! I've yet to discover the full story of this character but he's always there!!

Frenchie
I don't know that one as a usual suspect .. LOLWe have the two angels , on top of Jesus' barn ( well, where he was born,) , the wise men, shepherds, the " ravi" . unfortunately my son broke one of his arms ....... he s the one who lifts both arms and wonders at the beauty of the new born baby...Then we have the baker ( hey.. we're in France lol), the woman who makes " aioli" ( mayonnaise with garlic, typically Provençal).. the " tambourinaire" , he's the one who plays the music, sort of drums..The priest, and all the animals , sheep, etc...And a lot lot more .....[kiss]

Âme
It is a strange one, isn't it?! http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=YTXYLwOrgyc Catalan kids also hit a log with a stick to make it poop presents! I don't think the baker & the aioli maker would be in a British version! And I've never heard of the ravi, but there are lots of shepherds and animals in and around the stable, with baby Jesus in a crib and angels overhead. Frenchie
Morning, !!I painted some of them, in fact because my grand father gave them to me before he died.. He knew I loved his creche, and so each year I keep on with the tradition .And each year I buy a few new ones. Unfortunately, the real ones are very expensive.I know it may sound silly, but last night I said to him, " See ? I ve doen the crèche with your santons "..Yes, the ravi is a man who does menial work, he is what people may call " simple " , but he keeps that capacity to wonder at the worls and its beauties.
