krusty
Did any one watch "Blood, Sweat and Takeaways" on BBC3.The first episode about tuna , is repeated tonight at 10.45 uk time. (and also at 2.05 am tomorrow)Some of the workers wages are shocking." Six young British food consumers go to live and work alongside the millions of people in south east Asia's food production industries. They tackle Indonesia's tuna industry in Bitung on the island of Sulawesi. In the UK, we consume over a billion tins of tuna a year and Bitung's canneries supply to many supermarkets and sandwich chains. The Brits live with tuna workers in basic communities, endure the heat in the canneries and struggle with the harsh realities of life on a traditional tuna boat. Edward Trunk
Whenever a British company is revealed to be sourcing its products through the use of sweated and usually illegal labour, it always reacts by saying how shocked it is, it never knew this was going on, it will take immediate steps to put it right, etc etc. When the publicity has died away, it carries on as usual. It will be the same in this case.
Frederick
Yes saw it...Will still buy cans of tuna..If we all stop we can rob the locals of what pittance they do get and return them to the gutter in starvation ..is that what people want ? How many do they expect to go into their supermarkets and tell the manager they want to pay more for a can of the stuff ...count them on one hand ..nationwide !
