Frederick
I caught a news report that the UKIP leader was speaking on and .... Have I got this right ? I thought he said that the money his members will get for attending if they win seats in the Euro elections ( and they are well ahead of Labour in the polls so likely to ) will not be spent by the euro MP's...but will go into the party pot to further the aims of UKIP...So the allowances which are quite considerable become political party funds......Is this permitted ? Frederick
During a debate about Europe at the Foreign Press Association - whichwas discreetly taped by the hosts - Farage was asked by former Europeminister Denis MacShane what he had received in non-salary expenses andallowances since becoming an MEP in 1999."It is a vast sum,"Farage said. "I don't know what the total amount is but - oh lor - itmust be pushing £2 million." Taken aback, MacShane then joked: "Is ittoo late to become an MEP?"Farage insisted that he had not"pocketed" the money but had used the "very large sum of Europeantaxpayers' money" to help promote Ukip's message that the UK should getout of the EU.Just found this !...Wooly .....how does he get away with it if its not permitted ? woolybanana
Nobody asks questions. The EuroMPs are much, much more corrupt than the House of Commons ones. Wait til some newspaper gets going. Then there are local councils in UK too. How much shyte can a people take?
Patmobile
Surely there's not a law against a politician or anyone else spending his own money on promoting his political beliefs. If Brussels chooses to give this money to MEPs with no strings attached then they can use it any way they like.I'm not saying it's right they get it, just that once it's their's they can do what they please with it.Patrick

Thibault
It's ironic that UKIP are benefiting from people's anger regarding Westminster MPs expenses thingy, yet a couple of the UKIP MEPs have been caught milking the system for thousands of pounds. Renaud
I am with Wooly and Thibault, the press will not rest until the expenses of councilors and MERs are exposed. Plenty of requests under the freedom of information act have gone in.
Gluestick
Don't hold your breath! How many years now is it that the EU accounts have not been audited?Since, presumably, no decent professional firm is foolish enough to want to do it!
