virginia.c
Very sad. And only 64. Achieved so much in such a (relatively) short time. Do wonder if he had an underlying health condition/if he was a heavy smoker as he was taken by viral pneumonia.

Frecossais
He gave us some of the finest comedy we've ever had by moving away from caricature and stereotyping, and creating "real"characters that were more than one or two dimensional. His stories were beautifully written too. A real loss.

cooperlola
Of course it is sad when anybody dies, especially before their time, and it is a tough time for the family. But funny? Nope - never did it for me, sorry.

PaulT
What he wrote was not always 'funny' provided you found it funny, but could reach very low. There was the scene in a lift where Del made Rodney talk about his feelings over Cassandras miscarriage. There was a documentary in which he said he talked aobut writing the episode featuring the chandalier. His Dad had told him about this happening, so John wrote about it. His Dad was very cross telling him that people had lost their job over it. However, on watching the episode his Dad did tell him that it was funny.Essentially, a programme about people trying to climb out of a hole but the sides kept caving in.Not bad for someone who left school at 15 with no qualifications.
