Balham
Only just seen that actor Philip Madoc has died on 5 March.Probably of all his work it is his role in Dad's Army that he'll be best remembered for (?).No Soggy Chips
cooperlola
I'm so old my best memory of him was as Magua.Oh, and I loved A Mind to Kill. Sad but that's a reasonable age if not a great one.
Pierre ZFP
So does that mean that there's only Jonesy and Pike left out of the main characters?
cooperlola
I think Warden Hodges might still be alive too.

Balham
My Grandfather was a dead ringer for Arthur Lowe. He went to see him in a play once and an usher came along and said to my Grandfather, "Lr Lowe, would you be wanting to see your brother after the play".We digress, Philip Madoc, lovely rich voice he had. DerekJ
I've a real soft spot for Dads Army. Even after seeing so many of the episodes multiple times it still makes me smile and gives me a warm feeling. I've got the boxed set ( a Chrissie present a couple of years ago) which I dip into. Rabbie
I have happy memories of watching Dad's Army with my parents. My father who had been in the home Guard regarded it as a gross caricature while my mother said it had been just like the program
idun
The most memorable of episodes. I still watch Dad's Army most Saturday evenings and doubt I will ever tire of it.
PaulT
I think Warden Hodges might still be alive too.
That is correct.Clive Dunn has lived in Portugal for some years now.Apparently the writers thought it was easy to portray the characters, they essentially just played themselves - they observed the actors and wrote to how they were.
