Only just seen that actor Philip Madoc has died on 5 March.

Probably of all his work it is his role in Dad's Army that he'll be best remembered for (?).

Sad news.

Just watched that clip - wonderful stuff.

Years ago, I had a bank manager who was just like Capt Mainwaring. Pomposity personified.

My Grandfather was a dead ringer for Arthur Lowe. He went to see him in a play once and an usher came along and said to my Grandfather, "Lr Lowe, would you be wanting to see your brother after the play".

We digress, Philip Madoc, lovely rich voice he had.

I've a real soft spot for Dads Army. Even after seeing so many of the episodes multiple times it still makes me smile and gives me a warm feeling. I've got the boxed set ( a Chrissie present a couple of years ago) which I dip into.

That is correct.

Clive Dunn has lived in Portugal for some years now.

Apparently the writers thought it was easy to portray the characters, they essentially just played themselves - they observed the actors and wrote to how they were.
