nomoss
Were you allowed to read/buy it?http://news.sky.com/story/1020174/dandy-comic-publishes-its-final-print-edition
Mr Ceour de Lion II
I was always a Beano boy.Sad that it's come to this, there still not substitute for reading it as a comic. Tablets are all very well, but...8000 copies a week sold is one hell of a drop. Guess nothing lasts forever.
Gardian
My comic was The Eagle (I think). Dan Dare and all that.Wasn't there one called The Topper? That just got dredged up from the memory bank. This is all a bit like Saturday Morning Pictures at the Granada.
Ivor Nidea
My favourites were the Hotspur and Adventure. Alf Tupper (The tough of the track) was brilliant. He trained on fish and chips, none of the isotonic drinks for him, and he carried his spikes and shorts in a brown paper parcel. They don't make em like that anymore.Rockfist Rogan and Limp along Leslie were other heroes of mine, which none of you kids will remember.

The tv series is good too.
woolybanana
The mail boat used to bring my Eagle into Durban harbour and we used to watch her arrive from the stoep, knowing the comic would be in the shop in 24 hours. But also those American comics that my parents so hated me top get my eager mitts on.
NickP
But Wooly, what your Mum didn't know about American comics was the swap rate, 2 British comics for 1 American.[:D]
Rabbie
I think a lot of mums were against American comics probably explaining the swap rate. I remember getting the Eagle also reading most of the others at one of my friends. There was one called the Wizard that featured stories about some guy called Wilson who could run a 3 minute mile among other feats.
NormanH
I too enjoyed Alf Tupper.Am I imagining it, but was there also a character called Wilson?
Hoddy
At various times we had Dandy, Beano, Hotspur and Wizard. These were for my brothers, I had School Friend but my favourite characters were always Desperate Dan and Black Bob.Hoddy
